Chapter 1554: Glad That You Know

Lucian met Roxanne's gaze calmly, though an accusatory glint flickered in his eyes.

Roxanne, annoyed, averted her gaze and scooped up Estella. "Come on, let's go upstairs and try on those dresses."

Estella clung to Roxanne tightly.

As they started toward the stairs, a commotion erupted from above. Sonya's voice, slightly displeased, cut through the air, "You guys better be careful! Don't break or drop anything."

Confused, Roxanne looked up to see several housekeepers, under Catalina's direction, carrying numerous bags downstairs. Sonya trailed behind, her displeasure evident. Her expression darkened further upon seeing Lucian, Roxanne, and the children.

Roxanne gently placed Estella on the couch and turned to Lucian with a questioning look.

Lucian addressed Sonya, "Mom, why are you moving at such a late hour? Couldn't you move tomorrow?"

Sonya snorted coldly. "I bet you can't wait for me to leave! I'm just an eyesore to all of you!"

She then swept her gaze across the gifts on the couch. Spotting familiar brand packaging, she glared ferociously at Roxanne. All these new clothes! she thought. Lucian must have paid for everything! This woman lets my son spend so much money when they aren't even married. Things will only get worse!

Roxanne felt the intensity of Sonya's burning gaze, but her voice caught in her throat.

Lucian quickly intervened, "Roxanne bought me several clothes, and I'm gifting her a few in return."

Guilt washed over Roxanne. I only bought him the shirt he's wearing! she thought. How did he make it sound like I bought him everything?

Sonya didn't believe her son, but merely offered a derisive snort. "I haven't been following you two around. How would I know who bought all this? You two can say whatever you like!"

She turned back to the housekeepers. "Hurry up! You'll delay Mr. and Mrs. Farwell's rest if this takes any longer."

Roxanne recognized the sarcasm in Sonya's use of "Mrs. Farwell," and understood she was blaming her for the move. Realizing this, her expression shifted. However, given Sonya's impending departure, she refrained from making a scene, approaching Sonya and attempting to take a bag.

"Mrs. Farwell, let me carry that for you."

Sonya exaggeratedly avoided her hand. "How could I trouble you? Lucian would probably throw me out of the Farwell residence!"

Roxanne stiffened.

Sensing Sonya's hostility, the children quickly gathered around Roxanne protectively.

Sonya glanced at Estella and sneered coldly. "Estella doesn't even acknowledge me as her grandmother anymore. I wonder if I even have a say in this household!"

Roxanne finally spoke, "Don't say that, Mrs. Farwell. As long as I haven't received your approval, I remain an outsider in the Farwell family. So, you undoubtedly have the final say. If anyone lacks a say here, it's definitely me."

"Glad you know that! Don't assume I'm leaving because I'm afraid of you!"

Roxanne remained silent, her lips pressed together.

Lucian, his brows furrowed, patted Roxanne's shoulder affectionately before escorting Sonya out.
