Chapter 1535: What Do You Think
Lucian immediately sensed the discontent and guilt in Roxanne's voice. "Jack even offered bonuses to my staff in his name," she confided. "I'd planned to do it myself, but he beat me to it. I was too embarrassed to refuse... Will the staff think Jack treats them better than I do? Our research institute is only collaborating with Damaris Group, after all," she murmured.
A nagging feeling had prompted her to confide in Lucian. He softened his gaze, comforting her. "You've done nothing wrong. He's overstepped. Your talents lie in medicine; don't worry about management. Come to me for help anytime. I'll be your advisor."
"What should I do?" Roxanne asked, trusting his guidance.
Lucian readily offered assistance. "Have you finalized the profit-sharing agreement?"
"I suggested we discuss it first, but he refused," Roxanne replied, shaking her head.
"Then draft a detailed contract, outlining all terms and conditions clearly. If you're unsure, I can review the draft."
"Of course. I'll let him know immediately," Roxanne said, relieved by his support. "I'm sorry to trouble you again."
Lucian chuckled. "It's my honor."
Seeing Roxanne wary of Jack suits me perfectly. It's better than them growing closer. I'm all she needs.
"But I'd like to manage the company myself. Could you teach me, if you have time?" Roxanne asked cautiously. Lucian's management skills were renowned. His guidance would be invaluable.
Lucian readily agreed. "I'll do my best! Your secretary could also learn from Cayden. You lacked managerial experience overseas, and I don't think she has any either. Learning from Cayden will relieve some of your burden."
Roxanne nodded. "Yes, I'll speak to her."
They continued discussing the contract when a commotion erupted at the door. Roxanne ended the call.
Jack entered the cafe, smelling strongly of alcohol.
"How are you feeling?" he asked, sitting near Roxanne.
Glancing at the closed door and Jack's inebriated state, Roxanne remained guarded. "Much better now. Thank you for your concern, Mr. Damaris."
Jack smiled, casually loosening his collar, his gaze shifting from an aroma lamp to Roxanne.
Feeling flustered under his intense stare, she shifted the conversation to work. "I'd like to confirm the terms of our cooperation, Mr. Damaris. What do you think?"
Jack refused to cooperate. "I've had a bit to drink. Discussing important matters wouldn't be appropriate. Besides, didn't I say tonight was for relaxing? Let's talk about work another time!"
