Chapter 1531: The Reason
After breakfast, Elias smiled before leaving, likely to see Sonya. The children were still eating, so Roxanne remained with them.
"Try your best not to argue with Mrs. Farwell and try to make her like you," she advised, though she doubted her children could manage it. Even she struggled with Sonya's overbearing nature.
"We understand, Mommy," Archie assured her. "Benny just thought Mrs. Farwell overreacted. Besides, he was right."
Benny nodded in agreement. "Since Mrs. Farwell doesn't like us calling her Grandma, we won't!" Estella nodded her support.
Roxanne smiled, then addressed Estella seriously. "Essie, your brothers can choose not to call her Grandma, but you should." Estella nodded obediently.
Roxanne, knowing her sons were blameless, said nothing more and continued breakfast. Lucian called. Roxanne checked her phone, glancing at her children, who silently continued eating.
Seeing their awareness, Roxanne answered.
"You're up?" Lucian's voice held concern and a hint of amusement.
Roxanne blushed but maintained composure. "Having breakfast."
Lucian sighed. "Sorry. I wanted to be with you this morning, but urgent work called." He then inquired about her well-being.
Roxanne concealed her discomfort. "I'm fine." She couldn't admit her back pain in front of the children.
Lucian sounded disappointed. "Really? It seems I need to work harder."
Roxanne lowered her speaker volume. "That's all for now. The kids aren't finished."
Lucian chuckled. "I just wanted to know your thoughts after last night, and whether you'd run home if I wasn't here." He'd been careful last night, fearing he'd upset her. His worry persisted, leading to his call.
Roxanne hesitated. "I... I do want to go home, but not because of last night."
He frowned at first, then was relieved. "Why then?"
Roxanne glanced at Archie and Benny, then moved to the living room. "Mrs. Farwell dislikes Archie and Benny, and my presence only worsens things. I hope they can get along. So, I don't think it's right for me to stay at the manor."
