Chapter 1499
The police responded swiftly, especially given the Farwell family's involvement. Investigations commenced that very night. Once Ophelia awoke, Cayden escorted her to the station. Traumatized, she cooperated fully, confessing and providing all her phone records with Aubree.
Upon receiving this evidence, the police launched their search. At midnight, in a mansion on the city's outskirts, Gina tossed and turned restlessly. Samuel chided her, โWhat are you doing? Why aren't you asleep? Our daughter has left. Do you intend to leave with her?โ
A distraught Gina responded softly, โDonโt say that. Aubree is still our daughter. Besides, didnโt you initially approve of her actions? Why blame her now that the plan has failed? I wonder how she is.โ Gina clutched her chest. โI worry constantly, and my eyelids keep twitchingโโ
A knock at the downstairs door interrupted her. Startled, Gina realized no one had ever visited them at midnight since moving to the secluded mansion. Her unease intensified; she feared it might be a ghost.
โIโll go see,โ Samuel said, rising vigilantly. He peered out the window; the sight of a police car below darkened his expression. Turning to Gina, he commanded, โCome downstairs.โ
Fearful, Gina quickly threw on a jacket and followed. Samuel opened the door cautiously. โOfficer, what brings you here at this hour?โ
The officer flashed his badge. โWhereโs Aubree Pearson?โ
Ginaโs understanding dawned slowly, then her knees buckled. โOfficer, my daughterโฆ What did Aubree do? Why are you looking for her?โ
Samuel also stared gravely. โWeโre here to arrest Aubree for attempted murder. Where is she?โ
The officerโs succinct statement prompted a thorough search of the premises. The words โattempted murderโ sent Gina collapsing onto the couch, tears streaming uncontrollably. โOh my godโฆ What has she done?โ
Samuelโs face reddened with anger. Aubree, despite his warnings, had clearly disregarded them. She had made a terrible mistake.
After a suspicious appraisal, the police searched the house, finding nothing. They questioned Aubreeโs parents, warning, โIf youโve lied to us or contacted the suspect, you will face legal consequences.โ
Gina trembled. Samuel, in contrast, responded harshly, โIโve already disowned her. I have no idea where she is, and I donโt want a daughter like her. If you find her, do what you must!โ
