Chapter 1434

Sonya hadn't intended to confront Roxanne so late, but her son's shocking online announcement, discovered during dinner, ignited her fury. She abandoned her meal, her cutlery flung aside in a rage, and drove directly to Roxanne's house. Sonya was determined to sever Lucian and Estella's ties with Roxanne immediately. Seeing Estella's dependence on Roxanne only intensified her anger.

"Roxanne Jarvis, give me back my granddaughter," she demanded icily, as if Roxanne had stolen Estella.

Sensing Estella's nervousness, Roxanne squeezed her hand reassuringly, then met Sonya's gaze. Unlike in the past, Roxanne felt confident. She was Estella's mother, and she had the right to keep her daughter.

"Essie is my daughter, separated from me for years. It's only right she stays with me. What are you trying to do, Mrs. Farwell?"

Roxanne held Sonya's stare, refusing to yield.

Sonya's expression shifted. "So you know you're Essie's mother? Then where were you all these years? The Farwell family raised her. What did you do? You claim to be her mother and take her away. Did you ever consider our feelings?" Sonya spoke as if acting solely in Estella's best interest.

A pang of guilt made Roxanne look apologetically at Estella. The girl met her gaze with a bright, trusting grin, showing no resentment. This renewed Roxanne's resolve.

"That's why I need to spend more time with Essie, to make up for lost years," Roxanne stated firmly.

The hostility intensified. Roxanne continued calmly, "If, as you say, you raised Essie, her bond with you won't change just because she's with me. You don't need to worry."

"Give Essie back! Just because you're her mother doesn't mean I'll let you join the Farwell family!" Sonya snapped, stepping forward to grab Estella.

Roxanne shielded Estella. "In that case, we should listen to Essie and respect her decision." She turned to Estella. "Essie, do you want to go back with Grandma?"

Estella shook her head instantly. She'd endured so much to be with her mother.

Sonya's face hardened. "Who knows? Maybe you've influenced her." Glaring at Archie and Benny, she added, "What if Essie becomes like them under your care?"

Roxanne's countenance darkened. "Please watch your language. They understand you!" she warned, her voice sharp.
