Chapter 1257

โ€œLucian, howโ€™s Dr. Jarvis?โ€ Jonathan asked cautiously after they had driven some distance. The tension in the car was palpable, and Lucianโ€™s grim face in the rearview mirror only amplified Jonathanโ€™s unease. He wondered if their earlier interaction had been a figment of his imagination. Lucian had seemed perfectly normal with Roxanne and the children just moments before. Why the sudden change?

Lucian merely shot Jonathan a cold stare and asked, โ€œWhere are Aubree and your sister?โ€

โ€œI sent them to the hospital,โ€ Jonathan replied, sheepishly touching his nose.

โ€œTake me there.โ€

Jonathan sighed inwardly and nodded. He worried about Lucian's reaction to Frieda.

After a moment of silence, Jonathan steered the conversation back to Roxanne and Lucian. โ€œBy the way, Dr. Jarvis wasnโ€™t hurt, was she?โ€

Lucian shook his head, his expression somber. โ€œNo, she wasnโ€™t. I checked.โ€

Jonathan probed, โ€œAubree must have gone after her because of you. Did Dr. Jarvis say anything? Wait a minuteโ€ฆ You didnโ€™t upset Dr. Jarvis again, did you?โ€

Lucianโ€™s gaze darkened. โ€œNo. I wonโ€™t do that again.โ€

Jonathan remained perplexed.

โ€œI donโ€™t think I can ever forget the previous incident,โ€ Lucian added gravely. โ€œAfter almost losing her, all I want to do now is make her happy.โ€

Jonathan felt a wave of relief. โ€œThatโ€™s more like it. If you had realized this sooner, perhaps there wouldnโ€™t be so many problems.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s why I wonโ€™t let anyone who has hurt her off the hook!โ€

Jonathanโ€™s heart sank. He regretted Frieda's actions. He had warned her repeatedly to stay out of Lucianโ€™s affairs, yet she had persisted, tagging along with Aubree. The thought of Lucianโ€™s anger falling upon his family, particularly his grandfather, filled him with dread.

Worry gnawed at him, and he slowed his driving. Despite his attempts to buy time, they soon arrived at the hospital. Resigned, Jonathan led the way inside.

They reached Aubreeโ€™s ward quickly. Subordinates guarding Aubree and Frieda greeted Jonathan. โ€œHello, Mr. Queen.โ€

โ€œHas she woken up?โ€ Jonathan asked. His question was cut short by the sound of an argument from within the ward โ€“ undoubtedly Frieda. He cleared his throat. Despite his anger towards Frieda, she was still his sister, and he couldnโ€™t abandon her. He feared the consequences if she continued her reckless behavior.
