Chapter 1257
โLucian, howโs Dr. Jarvis?โ Jonathan asked cautiously after they had driven some distance. The tension in the car was palpable, and Lucianโs grim face in the rearview mirror only amplified Jonathanโs unease. He wondered if their earlier interaction had been a figment of his imagination. Lucian had seemed perfectly normal with Roxanne and the children just moments before. Why the sudden change?
Lucian merely shot Jonathan a cold stare and asked, โWhere are Aubree and your sister?โ
โI sent them to the hospital,โ Jonathan replied, sheepishly touching his nose.
โTake me there.โ
Jonathan sighed inwardly and nodded. He worried about Lucian's reaction to Frieda.
After a moment of silence, Jonathan steered the conversation back to Roxanne and Lucian. โBy the way, Dr. Jarvis wasnโt hurt, was she?โ
Lucian shook his head, his expression somber. โNo, she wasnโt. I checked.โ
Jonathan probed, โAubree must have gone after her because of you. Did Dr. Jarvis say anything? Wait a minuteโฆ You didnโt upset Dr. Jarvis again, did you?โ
Lucianโs gaze darkened. โNo. I wonโt do that again.โ
Jonathan remained perplexed.
โI donโt think I can ever forget the previous incident,โ Lucian added gravely. โAfter almost losing her, all I want to do now is make her happy.โ
Jonathan felt a wave of relief. โThatโs more like it. If you had realized this sooner, perhaps there wouldnโt be so many problems.โ
โThatโs why I wonโt let anyone who has hurt her off the hook!โ
Jonathanโs heart sank. He regretted Frieda's actions. He had warned her repeatedly to stay out of Lucianโs affairs, yet she had persisted, tagging along with Aubree. The thought of Lucianโs anger falling upon his family, particularly his grandfather, filled him with dread.
Worry gnawed at him, and he slowed his driving. Despite his attempts to buy time, they soon arrived at the hospital. Resigned, Jonathan led the way inside.
They reached Aubreeโs ward quickly. Subordinates guarding Aubree and Frieda greeted Jonathan. โHello, Mr. Queen.โ
โHas she woken up?โ Jonathan asked. His question was cut short by the sound of an argument from within the ward โ undoubtedly Frieda. He cleared his throat. Despite his anger towards Frieda, she was still his sister, and he couldnโt abandon her. He feared the consequences if she continued her reckless behavior.
