Chapter 1195
As Benny remained silent, Lucian turned to Roxanne. Roxanne's lips thinned as she offered a tight smile. "It's nothing. I promised Ms. Pearson to keep my distance from you. After a near-death experience, I reconsidered my decision and realized I was too cautious. I'm concerned about Essie, so I should have asked about her despite Ms. Pearson's warning." Regret and guilt were evident on her face.
Lucian observed her for a moment. Seeing nothing amiss, he dropped his line of questioning. He didn't entirely trust her words, but recalling the specialists' earlier advice, he decided to question Roxanne about the details after her recovery. Thus, the matter ended.
Roxanne silently breathed a sigh of relief and told the children, "It's late; you should go home and rest. You can visit me tomorrow."
The children, naturally, refused, shaking their heads. Roxanne shot Lucian a pleading look. Lucian's brows furrowed; he understood their feelings.
"It's late, so it wouldn't be wise for the children to travel home. There's an unoccupied room next to yours. Why don't they rest there tonight?" He then looked to the children for their assent.
The three children nodded obediently. Roxanne conceded. "Thank you, Mr. Farwell."
Lucian inclined his head and led the children from her ward.
Cayden waited outside. Seeing them, he greeted, "Mr. Farwell."
Lucian instructed, "Take them to the adjacent ward; they'll spend the night there."
Cayden grunted in acknowledgement, quickly preparing the ward for the children. He then fixed his gaze on Lucian's back, suddenly remembering something. He hurried after Lucian, calling out, "Mr. Farwell!"
Lucian stopped. "What is it?"
Cayden gestured for Lucian to step into the corridor. "When I picked up Ms. Estella earlier, Ms. Pearson was also there. She asked where you were. Should I tell her what happened?" Cayden asked softly.
The mention of Aubree reminded Lucian of Benny's earlier, interrupted statement. The only malicious woman he could think of was Aubree.
With that in mind, he said coldly, "Since you didn't tell her when she asked, there's no need to inform her now."
Cayden's apprehension eased. A grin touched his lips as he nodded. "How is Ms. Jarvis?" he asked, his concern evident.
Lucian glanced at the closed ward door. "She's awake and stable. Thank you for your help."
"I'm glad she's fine," Cayden smiled.
Lucian patted his shoulder. "Thank you. If you're tired, rest in an empty ward. I'll give you the day off tomorrow."
Cayden nodded, offering a warm smile as he watched Lucian enter Roxanne's ward. A feeling of joy and contentment washed over Cayden as the door closed. Mrs. Farwell's illness had finally spurred Mr. Farwell to act. Reconciliation seemed inevitableโa blessing in disguise.
