Chapter 1150
โGo back and teach your kids to behave,โ a voice commanded.
After what seemed an eternity, Lucian finally said, โI believe children aren't born spiteful. If this happens again, I will take that to mean everyone here holds a grudge against Farwell Group.โ His words, though seemingly understanding, carried an undercurrent of threat.
Everyone readily agreed. However, with Lucian remaining silent, no one dared to leave.
Roxanne then spoke. โEssie is fine now. If thereโs nothing else, Iโm leaving.โ
She intended to return Estella to Lucian and depart. But Estella clung tightly to Roxanne, refusing to let go. Having not seen Roxanne in some time, Estellaโs reluctance was understandable. Moreover, she had worked hard to arrange this meeting and wouldn't let Roxanne go easily.
โEssieโฆโ Roxanne felt awkward, Estella clinging to her while the other parents watched curiously.
Refusing to release Roxanne, Estella stubbornly declared, โNo! I donโt want Daddy!โ
Their words prompted an exchange of glances among the parents.
โAhemโฆโ Someone, recognizing the awkwardness, offered an excuse to leave. โMr. Farwell, I will properly address my child's behavior at home. I have a meeting to attend and must return to work.โ
Lucian responded with an indifferent hum. Seeing this, the others quickly followed suit, exiting the office.
Once outside, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief. They were unsure of Roxanne's connection to the Farwell family, but Estella's actions had clearly embarrassed Lucian. Other families might have lingered, but with Lucian, no one dared.
The office emptied abruptly. Roxanne, sensing a shift in the atmosphere, continued to soothe Estella without looking at Lucian.
โEssie, be a good girl. I have to go back to work. You should go to your daddy.โ
Estella shook her head vehemently.
Lucian felt a surge of bitterness, seeing Roxanne again trying to avoid him. She had declared Essie none of her concern, yet she had appeared at the kindergarten, going back on her word and now acting as though heโd forced her hand.
Thinking this, Lucian said icily, โEssie, come here. Donโt impede Ms. Jarvisโ work.โ
Estella ignored him, pitifully tugging at Roxanneโs arm and displaying her injured hand. โIt hurts!โ
Roxanneโs heart ached at the sight of the red marks, but she was unsure how to face Lucian if she remained.
After a moment, she gently blew on Estellaโs hand. โAll right, Iโve blown away all the pain. It wonโt hurt anymore.โ
Seeing Estellaโs continued reluctance, Roxanne softened her tone further. โI really have to go back to work, Essie. Be a good girl at school, and Iโll visit you in two days, okay?โ
Addressing Estella, Roxanne then glanced sheepishly at Lucian. She had arrived unannounced and wondered if he would refuse another visit. Thankfully, he remained silent, seemingly understanding.
Estella looked skeptical. โYou wonโt come back if you leave!โ
Roxanne patted Estellaโs head. โI will come back. Didnโt I come here on my own accord this time? Iโm worried about you, so Iโll visit again in two days.โ
