Chapter 1119
Jack smiled. โIโll take my leave. Please review these medical books, and contact me with any questions.โ
Gratitude shone in Roxanneโs eyes. โI will.โ
They walked to the door. Before entering his car, Jack glanced back at Roxanne, a mysterious look on his face. Roxanne frowned, puzzled by his gaze.
โItโs a shame to miss dinner with you tonight, Ms. Jarvis,โ Jack said, his face etched with disappointment.
Roxanne was momentarily stunned, but replied politely, โThere will be opportunities. Besides, I must thank you for the medicines you provided our institute, Mr. Damaris.โ
Jack raised an eyebrow. โHow about you prepare a meal for me, Ms. Jarvis, as thanks?โ
Before she could respond, he continued, โIโm tired of restaurants, and I imagine youโre a skilled cook. Might I have the privilege of tasting your dishes?โ
Roxanne couldnโt refuse. โIf you wish, Mr. Damaris. But I hope you wonโt be disappointed.โ
Jack chuckled. โI wonโt be disappointed if youโre the cook.โ He got into his car. โItโs a deal, then. Dinner next time. Itโs late; Iโll head back.โ
Roxanne nodded absently. His attitude seemed odd. Weโre business partners; why the dinner invitation? It feelsโฆintimate.
After the car left, Roxanne returned to the mansion, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within her. Archie and Benny came downstairs, having heard the commotion.
Thinking of her promise to Jack, guilt gnawed at her. She knew how much the boys disliked him.
โThe foodโs getting cold. Come eat,โ she said, trying to distract them.
Benny looked sullen. โMommy, how much longer will you work with Mr. Damaris?โ
Roxanne frowned. โThatโs not something I can decide.โ
Benny started to speak again, but Roxanne quickly served him food. โThatโs enough. Eat.โ
Knowing she wanted to drop the subject, Benny reluctantly stopped. Despite Archieโs attempts to explain the situation and its potential consequences, Benny couldnโt control himself. Mommy hasnโt seen Daddy recently, but she sees Mr. Damaris almost every day. What if she develops feelings for him?
Roxanne remained oblivious to Bennyโs thoughts. She was troubled; worried about Estella and unsettled by Jackโs behavior. She lacked the energy to address Archie and Bennyโs feelings.
She finished her meal restlessly, the unnerving feeling returning as she remembered her promise to call Lucian about Estella. Fortunately, Archie and Benny seemed to have forgotten, and didnโt press her.
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief, pretended everything was normal, and watched the boys fall asleep before returning to her room.
