Chapter 310
The Oracle's command halted his mid-transformation. Half-shifted, he looked at her through gleaming yellow eyes. She appeared deathly pale, her already white skin taking on a near-translucent hue. Her frail hands trembled as they gripped her staff.
โYou twoโฆ be careful,โ she said weakly. โI cannot see what lies aheadโnot clearly. Pan, I pray you make it in time. If notโฆโ She shook her head. โEven if instinct takes hold, even if the rut consumes youโkeep your wits about you. This cycleโฆ they need you more than ever.โ
Vladya and Daemonikai exchanged a grim look before nodding.
โMay the gods be with you.โ
Another nod. Then both shifted fully and departed, their beast forms vanishing from sight.
Night had fallen. Darkness settled over the Citadel. Lord Ottai had moved Aekeira from her chambers to Vladyaโs quarters for better protection. Her scent had grown stronger, far too strong. Every Urekai male who caught a whiff of it desired her.
Emeriel paced beside the bed, her eyes never leaving her sister. Aekeira had fallen into a fitful sleep hours ago, but she tossed and turned restlessly, crying out and gripping her stomach. Madam Lรญvia, Amie, and Lord Ottai remained close, each doing their part to maintain order. Outside the door, Lord Ottai stationed soldiers at every key position to deter intruders.
โYou need to sit and rest, Emeriel,โ Madam Lรญvia urged for the umpteenth time.
Emeriel, too exhausted to argue, merely ignored her. She scratched at her raw arms, worried sick. Would Lord Vladya return in time? She had already seen the signs. The moment Aekeira woke this time, the heat waves would tear through her. And if he wasn't there when they didโฆ if he wasn't there to soothe the acheโฆ
Shaking away the thought, Emeriel moved to the tub of water, splashing her face. The relief was fleeting. Every inch of her burned, had been burning for some time.
โHere, let me help you with that.โ
Madam Lรญvia cupped cool water, pouring it over Emerielโs face, again and again. It was somewhat calming. She closed her eyes, the water running down her cheeks.
โThat is enough, thank you. But I need toโโ Emeriel clutched her burning stomach, wincing. โI need to make sure Aekeira is getting enough air andโโ
โStop for a moment, will you?โ Madam Lรญvia took her hand, guiding her to a nearby chair, pressing her down into it, and handing her a cup of water. โDrink.โ
Emeriel hesitated but obeyed. The cool liquid did not quench the fires raging inside her.
โThere. That is better.โ Taking the cup from her, Madam Lรญvia studied her closely. โHow do you feel?โ
Emerielโs fingers curled into fists in her lap. Finally, she managed to breathe out through a ball of fear. โI know I am going into heat, Madam Lรญvia.โ
She stared off into space, not bothering to hide the terror on her face. โI mean, how could I not know? Just look at me.โ She lifted her arms for the head maid to see her raw and red skin, streaked with thin lines of blood.
Madam Lรญvia looked and winced.
โI thoughtโฆ maybe if I ignored it, it would go away. I donโt know what I thought.โ Emeriel let out a mirthless laugh, wiping her face with the back of her hand. โBut my entire body is on fire.โ
โThey will get here on time.โ
โEven you donโt believe that.โ Emeriel glanced at the window, where darkness stretched beyond. โWhy did it have to be tonight?โ
Madam Lรญvia took her hand and squeezed it. โYou and your sister will be fine. Until they arrive, we have to do everything we can to ensure both of you are okay.โ
Emeriel stared at their joined hands. โThere isnโt much else to do. Weโโ
A sudden scream pierced the room. Aekeira bolted upright in bed, her mouth open in a wail so raw, so agonizing, it made Emerielโs stomach knot painfully.
โKeira!โ Shooting to her feet, Emeriel rushed to her side. Aekeira doubled over, gripping her stomach, and screamed againโlouder and more desperate.
โI need my male! I need myโโ She rolled to the edge of the bed, away from Emerielโs outstretched hand, screaming. โLord Vladya! Where are you!?โ
Emerielโs heart shattered.
โWait, Aekeiraโฆ!โ She was reaching for Aekeira again, swiping angrily at the hot tears streaking her cheeks. But Aekeira recoiled. โDo not touch me! Do notโโ A strangled cry tore from her lips as shaky hands reached for her own breasts, pinching her hard nipples, her body arching.
โEm, it hurts really, really bad,โ she sobbed openly. โIt hurts so much I donโt think I can bear thisโฆ!โ
Emeriel grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her hard. โOf course you can! You are strong! You can overcomeโโ
The words died in Emerielโs throat as fire rose deep in her core, like scorching lava, burning and burning. Snatching her hands away, Emeriel threw her head back as a loud wail of agony ripped from her throat. โEm, are you all right!?โ Aekeiraโs voice was faint, distant, as though coming from another world. โHers is here too!โ Madam Lรญviaโs muffled voice followed. โAmie, come, help me move her!โ
All she could hear clearly was the crackling of flames. Deep inside her belly, everything burned.
Her organs were flaming. Her womb scorching. Her womanhood seared. Emerielโs nipples throbbed, painfully sensitive. Even the brush of fabric seared.
Tearing at her clothes, Emeriel was beyond desperate, mindless. The air was too thick, too hotโsuffocating her.
โSomeone make it stop!โ she let out another piercing scream. โMAKE IT STOP!โ
Two voices rose in the air in unison: twin wails of absolute suffering from the very depths of their souls, echoing off the walls, piercing the hearts of many who heard it.
โMAKE IT STOP!!!โ
