Chapter 229

It barreled through her defenses, flooding her with pleasure after pleasure. Lord Vladyaโ€™s furry hand held her writhing body still as he continued thrusting his fingers into her starved body. His grip was possessive, as if Ackeiraโ€™s private place were his rightโ€”his to invade, his to open, his to claim. Fangs withdrawing, he took the thoughts right out of her head. โ€œThis is mine,โ€ he snarled, plunging his thick fingers deep and scissoring. โ€œEvery part of you is mine, my sweet, pretty little Ackeira.โ€

Her body convulsed in his grasp. Ackeira was submerged in ecstasy, drowning. At last, she slumped against him, boneless and utterly spent. Only then did he withdraw his fingers. Giving her a raw, heated look, he brought them to his lips, licking them clean. Then, he let out a guttural groan of absolute, undisguised hunger.

โ€œHearths, it almost feels like my sex drive isnโ€™t asleep,โ€ he growled, staring pointedly between her open legs, to her exposed core, a savage look in his eyes. โ€œThe things I want to do to youโ€ฆโ€

She felt completely exposed, open to his gaze. But she forced herself to keep her quivering thighs parted for him, to let him see. Taking a deep breath, he pulled away. Rising, he lifted her from the basin and carried her back to his makeshift bed. Lying her on the soft surface, he began toweling her body. His manhood was still hard and proudly erect, tenting his pants.

โ€œAre you alright?โ€ Ackeira voiced in a small tone. โ€œDo you want me toโ€”โ€

Her grand lord shook his head. โ€œIโ€™m fine. I told you tonight was for you.โ€ Looking up at him dreamily, she reddened.

โ€œIf I had my soul,โ€ Lord Vladyaโ€™s voice was low and gruff, โ€œI would attempt a bonding ritual.โ€ Ackeiraโ€™s drowsy eyes flew open. Had she heard him right? He nodded, his expression solemn. โ€œI would.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ she couldnโ€™t help how small, how hopeful, her voice sounded. Another firm nod. Ackeiraโ€™s heart thudded in her chest. He was terrified of the bonding ritual, despised the very idea of going through that hell again. Yet, he wanted to do itโ€ฆ for her?

He toweled her hair gently. โ€œIโ€™m not a prize, Ackeira.โ€ His voice was flat, but his eyes rested on her with a tenderness that felt almost surreal. โ€œIโ€™m a disaster. A burden. A nearly feral one, at that.โ€

โ€œYou are none of those things,โ€ she said fiercely, aching inside. โ€œDonโ€™t speak of yourself that way.โ€

He closed his eyes, his jaw clenching as he fought against his inner demons. โ€œIf you were Syren, and I had my soul, I would have fallen at your feet and begged you to bond with me. To be my bondmate.โ€

Tears brimmed in her eyes as she sat up and threw her arms around his neck. His arms went around her, and he held her tight, almost crushing her. Ackeira buried her face into his neck, inhaling his familiar scent as her shoulders shook with silent sobs. Ackeira didnโ€™t know which she wanted more: to be a Syren, or for him to regain his soul. Both. She wanted them both so desperately, it hurt.

Chapter 229

โ€œKneel before she sees us,โ€ he snapped. Ottai cast him a look as though heโ€™d lost his mind, then crossed his arms with a sullen sigh. โ€œAnd why must I hide with you? Iโ€™ve done nothing wrong.โ€ Daemonikai leveled him with a superior look, one brow arched. With a resigned sigh, Ottai finally crouched beside him behind the sheltering rock, muttering under his breath.

Together, they watched Emeriel in silence. โ€œAre you going to her?โ€ Ottai huffed quietly. โ€œYes.โ€ โ€œWhen?โ€ Ottai pressed, glancing at the king. Daemonikai didnโ€™t respond. For now, he was content to watch her from a distance, watching her move gracefully as she tended to the gardens. Just like that, the tension from the dayโ€™s court proceedings dissipated.

She was a vision in her elaborate gown, its golden patterns shimmering in the sunlight. Simply breathtaking. Even his people admired her, which surprised Daemonikai. They wereโ€ฆ kinder with her. At first, he was suspicious, surprised even. But after seeing how some interacted with herโ€”the way the younglings flocked to her, their mothers watching with trusting smilesโ€”he began to believe. He was awed at the way she handled the children. Emeriel would make a wonderful mother. A pang of longing rose in him, but he quickly squashed it.

Chapter 229

Since their encounter two days ago, he had watched her from a distance, following her quietly whenever he had the chance. Now, she tended to flowers, assisting the slave workers. The contentment on her face as she moved among the blossoms wasโ€ฆ mesmerizing. Daemonikai could watch her all day.

โ€œPerhaps you should actually talk to her instead of stalking her, Your Grace,โ€ Ottai remarked dryly. Daemonikai shot him a reprimanding look. โ€œThatโ€™s an undignified thing to say. I do not stalk.โ€ Ottai raised an eyebrow. โ€œLetโ€™s see: you followed her from the sick femaleโ€™s house, to the woods where she gathered herbs with Livia, then to the training field where she practiced swordplay, and now, to the garden.โ€

Well, now that Ottai laid it out like that, it did sound like stalking. Not that Daemonikai would ever admit it. โ€œI merely follow discreetly,โ€ he corrected firmly. โ€œI do not stalk.โ€

โ€œQuit it,โ€ Daemonikai growled. โ€œHave you tried apologizing?โ€ โ€œI have,โ€ Daemonikai sighed. Her heartbreak ran deep. He could still recall vividly the raw pain heโ€™d seen, the misery, the resolve. โ€œShe wants nothing to do with me anymore,โ€ he conveyed, not bothering to hide the bitterness in his voice. โ€œItโ€™s a wonder she even agreed to return in the first place.โ€

โ€œOh, that took quite a bit of convincing,โ€ Ottai said. Then, he shrugged. โ€œSheโ€™s harder now.โ€ โ€œAnd stronger,โ€ Daemonikai remembered her impressive archery skills and swordplay. Pride swelled in him. His Soulbond was a woman of many talents.

โ€œPain has a way of changing people,โ€ Ottai said quietly. โ€œIt starts from the roots, twisting everything until one becomes numb to all that matters.โ€ A sentiment they both understood all too well. โ€œOnly I caused this pain,โ€ Daemonikaiโ€™s jaw locked tight. โ€œIt was all my fault.โ€

โ€œYou did what you thought was best,โ€ Ottai offered. โ€œBut maybe the separation was necessary. It forced you and Vladya to truly understand what these women mean to your lives. Sometimes, one does not know the value of what they have until itโ€™s gone.โ€

It was fascinating what coming to terms with oneself can achieve. Now that he had made peace with his conflicting emotions, understanding that going after Emeriel didnโ€™t betray Evieโ€™s memory, he felt most comfortable. Reaching for this new star that is Emeriel was not a transgression. It was a chance at life, at healing. And for the first time in a long while, the will to live was stirring in him.

He still had nightmares about that night he lost it all, and he still thought of them, but instead of wanting to die with them, Daemonikai wished to heal. Not just to honor their memory but to honor his. He wished to live for themโ€ฆ but also for himself. For Emeriel.

Chapter 229

โ€œI refuse to believe Iโ€™ve lost her forever. I will win her back,โ€ he stated with resolve. โ€œI have no intention of giving up.โ€
