Chapter 188
He took a deep breath, trying to release the tightness in his chest. โAckeira deserves to be with her sister. I canโt keep her here when thereโs nothing for her.โ
โSince everything with Gali-Emeriel came to light, itโs got me thinking,โ his friend said, moving closer, green eyes searching Vladyaโs face. โHave you considered that Ackeira might be your lost soul? Perhaps your soul doesn't recognize her, preventing the trigger for her Syren traits. Have you ever thought of that?โ
A bitter smile twisted Vladyaโs lips. โI have.โ
โAnd?โ
โAnd itโs just wishful thinking. Nonsensical assumptions,โ he deadpanned. โWhat are the chances of two Soulbonds appearing simultaneously, when there hasnโt been one in millennia? Two sisters for two best friends?โ Vladya chuckled hollowly. โNone, Daemon. Absolutely none.โ
Daemonikai looked away, his expression hardening. โShe might still be a compatible soul. A bondmateโฆโ
โIโve gone through countless failed bondings,โ Vladya said. โEach time, I was sure the female was mine. I loved them, cherished them; my beast adored some. Yet, they all failed. With Ackeiraโฆ itโs different. Itโs not cheesy or fluffy like the others. Itโs dark, all-consuming.โ
โI do not understand.โ
โI want to possess her,โ Vladyaโs eyes darkened. โI want to kill any male who has ever seen her smile, Urekai or human, and only me. To confine her to my room, existing solely for me. To possess her completely, rendering her useless to society, functioning only for me. I want to mark her so thoroughly that all she sees, hears, and knows is me.โ
โThatโsโฆ a bit too much information,โ Daemonikai winced, scrunching his face.
โThereโs nothing โlove-yโ about my feelings for Ackeira, trust me,โ Vladya grumbled, looking away.
โThat was intense. Even your voice changedโฆ your whole demeanor,โ Daemonikai said, wonder in his eyes as he studied Vladya. โThereโs definitely something there. Iโd like to believe itโs your lost soul, teetering on the edge of madness, feeding you these thoughts.โ
โAnd how long are we supposed to milk that cow?โ Vladya snapped, frustrated. โNot everything is caused by my deteriorating mind or soullessness. Ackeira is not a Syren, Daemon. Iโve been intimate with her more than once. Thereโs no sign of it.โ His jaw tightened. โMy semen burns her.โ
Daemonikai grimaced. โOkay, you might have a point.โ
โI know I do,โ Vladya said, letting out a breath. โDo you know how I survived countless failed bondings and still managed to hold out for centuries? I learned to stop hoping. Stop living in delusions and face reality. Itโs the expectation that kills you, not the outcome.โ
Daemonikaiโs hand rested on Vladyaโs shoulder. โSo you will simply let Ackeira go?โ
Vladya shrugged.
Daemonikaiโs lips thinned. โYou think I donโt see how much this girl helps you keep it together? She fills a need, Vladya. And as obsessed as I am with your recovery, donโt think for a second I wouldnโt ensure she remains here.โ
Chapter 188
Vladya arched an eyebrow and snorted. โOh, look who it is! The hypocrite himself.โ
โYou little shit.โ
โDonโt think I donโt see it either. Emeriel calms you. She soothes your soul and takes away your pain and grief,โ Vladya retorted bluntly. โI watched you both for months while you were still feral. Donโt act like I donโt know what she does for you. If you had all your memories, youโd understand exactly what I mean.โ
Vladya paused, his eyes narrowing. โAnd as obsessed as I am with your recovery, donโt think I wouldnโt fight to ensure she stays for you.โ
Daemonikai glared, hearing his own words echoed back.
โEither they both go, or they both stay,โ Vladya clicked his tongue. โBesides, itโs cruel to separate them. Youโve never seen them together, so you wouldnโt understand, but I have. It would break their hearts.โ
โFine. Ackeira goes with her.โ Daemonikai sighed, resigned, stepping back. โI hope you donโt regret this.โ
Vladya rolled his eyes, exaggeratedly. โLook who it is, Pot. Itโs your dear friend, Kettle, again.โ
โSave your snark for the likes of Zaiper, not me,โ Daemonikai shot back, slapping the back of his head.
โYouโre just old, ancient one,โ Vladya smiled broadly. โHumor goes right over your head, my friend.โ Daemonikai shook his head as Vladya whistled a cheerful tune and left the room.
Only outside did Vladya allow himself to deflate. His smile vanished, and the cold crept in. Itโs for the best.
GRAND LORD ZAIPER
โItโs not enough the girl goes scot-free after deceiving the entire council; now sheโs released from captivity?โ Zaiper slammed his goblet down after gulping the ale. The burn soothed him, slightly.
Four of them sat at a round table in the dimly lit tavern: three high lords and Zaiper. His flagon was nearly emptyโhis third of the nightโyet, annoyingly, he wasnโt intoxicated.
Belzebob sighed, swirling his drink before taking a long sip. โWell, I understand the grand king. All of this must not have been easy for him.โ
โLosing his family, losing his mind, then waking up to find a human Soulbond waiting to replace everything he lost,โ Gaff said, pouring more ale. โHeโs a good male. Iโll kill her myself and be done with it.โ
โYou canโt do that, sheโs a Soulbond,โ Jakal interjected. โItโs like killing the one person in the universe created for you and you alone,โ he sighed wistfully. โI wonder what that feels like.โ
