Chapter 68: You're Late Today

She quickly remembered another embarrassing incident. Before her wedding, due to her lack of sexual experience, Kate had suggested watching an adult film to learn. During a weekend when Kate's family was away, Cheyenne and Kate watched the film in Kate's room. They were doing so when Eddie, who had returned home to retrieve something, walked in on them.

Eddie's expression was peculiar. Although three years had passed since the incident, the memory still made her cringe.

Omari's gaze was fixed on Cheyenne's reddening face, pink even down to her neck.

"Cheyenne, why are you blushing?" Omari asked.

"It's nothing just hot," she replied.

Without hesitation, Omari turned on the air conditioning and called Eddie. Eddie sounded tired, as if he'd just come out of surgery.

"I'll be there soon," Eddie said before hanging up.

Half an hour later, a handsome young man in a blue shirt and black suit pants appeared. Three years had passed since their last meeting; he was more mature and composed. Wire-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, giving him an air of restraint.

Seeing Cheyenne, Eddie smiled hesitantly. He'd heard from his sister that Cheyenne had divorced and was left with nothing, while Mr. Foley had taken his lover to the Foley Villa. But what about Cheyenne? Eddie looked for any sign of sadness, but she remained radiant and unaffected. That was good.

"Eddie," Cheyenne called.

"Yeah, Cheyenne? Do you need something?" Eddie replied shyly, quickly averting his gaze and checking his attire. He'd rushed from the hospital; he still smelled of disinfectant and blood.

Instinctively stepping back, he didn't want to overwhelm her.

Cheyenne was confused. They hadn't seen each other in three years, and she was confident she hadn't become unattractive. Why was Eddie avoiding her?

After explaining her discovery, she handed Eddie the tube of blood. They listened as she explained that the Todd family's young master had broken his leg due to poisoning, not a car accident. Their eyes widened in astonishment and concern.

Was Cheyenne safe, potentially caught in a conspiracy?

But Cheyenne seemed indifferent. If she could use this opportunity to advance her medical skills, curing Benson would be easier. Since she'd chosen to participate, she wouldn't give up easily. Eddie tightened his grip on the tube and nodded seriously.

"I'll do my best."

"Thank you, Eddie."

"You should be careful at the Todd family. I hear Master Iker's temper is… volatile."

The Todd family had invited him for treatment while he attended a medical conference abroad. But when he returned by plane, Iker turned him away, and they didn't dare ask him again.

"Okay."

But Cheyenne's medical skills were superior to Eddie's; surely she could heal Iker's leg.

The next day, Cheyenne went to Iker's estate. It was raining lightly; Layne stayed home to avoid wetting his cloth shoes, leaving Cheyenne to go alone.

The security guards, familiar with her, greeted her from afar.

"Miss Lawrence, you're here."

"Mhm."

Cheyenne wore a simple goose-yellow square-necked dress, her wavy long hair cascading down her back. She looked exceptionally sweet, holding a white transparent umbrella as she walked in the rain. The rain fell on the umbrella.

The sound was constant. Water droplets slid down the umbrella like a swift stream. Underneath, Cheyenne's fair, peaceful face held a faint smile, like a rainbow in the rain.

Iker sat by a floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor, overlooking her approach. His irritable mood, caused by the rain, cleared as if clouds dispersed.

Sensing his gaze, Cheyenne looked up and met his dark eyes with a charming smile.

"Master Iker, we meet again."

"We just met yesterday!" Iker replied coldly.

"Oh, I see," Cheyenne said.

"And you're late today!" he said, glancing at the clock. "Three minutes! One hundred and eighty seconds, to be precise."

"Miss Lawrence, do you know how fast a bullet travels?" Cheyenne looked confused. "I don't know."

"It's 0.83 kilometers per second, so those 180 seconds are equivalent to 149.4 kilometers."

Cheyenne inwardly rolled her eyes. Why didn't he mention the speed of light? 180 seconds could be decades

"Master Iker, knowing time is precious, please don't give me math lessons. I'm terrible at studying."

Iker was speechless, showing disdain. He couldn't understand why anyone would be bad at learning. He got perfect scores without studying.

Cheyenne called for a maid to bring warm water for Iker's medicine.

"Why do I need medicine now?" Iker asked curiously.

"If we don't clear the toxins now, they may return. You should take some medicine first," she replied calmly, handing him the water.

The blood test results wouldn't be ready until tomorrow morning.

Silence fell, and Cheyenne felt awkward. He touched his nose and coughed. "I'll go see why the maid hasn't brought the water yet."

"Okay."

She went to the kitchen and found the maid acting suspiciously. She opened freshly cooked food and pulled a small white bottle from her pocket. After looking around, she took a white pill and mixed it into the food.

Cheyenne hid in the doorway, holding her breath, watching.
