Chapter 216 Calling Her Name
The annual meeting was set for the following evening, leaving everyone free to enjoy the first day.
The salty sea breeze was invigorating, and Meryl quickly swapped her travel clothes for a breezy beach dress as soon as she checked into the hotel.
The main group was arriving by high-speed train and wouldnโt get there until the afternoon. Meryl decided to take advantage of the quiet and explore the beach while it was still relatively empty.
But just as she opened her door, she was surprised to find Chandler standing there.
He was a far cry from his usual suited self, dressed casually in a plain white t-shirt, exuding a laid-back vibe.
It looked like he was about to knock.
Meryl instinctively glanced around, relieved to see no familiar faces.
She tried to pull Chandler inside quickly, but he didnโt move.
With a frown, he asked, โAre we married or just sneaking around like an illicit affair?โ
To avoid any gossip about their relationship, they had booked separate rooms for this trip, a decision Chandler had grumbled about incessantly.
Sensing his irritation, Meryl hurriedly explained, โI just didnโt want our colleagues to know Iโm your wife. It might complicate things at workโฆโ
Chandler pulled her closer, hooking his finger around hers. โDo you plan to keep it a secret forever?"
โYou worry too much,โ he said, tapping her forehead gently. โEveryone at Kingsdom knows I married you. Itโs only a matter of time before they all find out.โ
He had a point.
Meryl mulled it over for a few seconds before sighing, โAlright, letโs just let things happen naturally.โ
Chandlerโs lips curved into a smile as he slipped an arm around her shoulders. โSo, tonight, are you coming to my room, or am I going to yours?โ
The implication in his words was unmistakable, making Merylโs fingers tremble slightly and her cheeks turn pink.
Chandler smelled freshly showered, a pleasant mix of his body washโs minty scent.
Meryl took a deep breath, savoring it.
โIโllโฆ come to your room,โ she whispered.
His smile widened, and at this moment, she felt like a lamb walking into a wolfโs den.
His eyes stayed fixed on her. โWhat time?โ
โTen oโclock?โ
โAlright. If youโre not there by ten, Iโll come get you.โ
Merylโs cheeks turned bright red, the blush spreading to the tips of her ears.
When the elevator reached the lobby, Chandler wrapped his arm around her and led her out to the beach.
As they passed a glass window, Dalton, who was dining inside, froze mid-bite.
His eyes trailed after them as they walked away.
Next to him, Lydia noticed his distraction and felt a twinge of jealousy.
She tugged at his sleeve and said, โDalton, it looks like Chandler and Meryl are getting along really well. They must be heading for a beach stroll. Why donโt we go too later?โ
Daltonโs expression darkened.
He quickly finished his spaghetti and set down his fork.
โNo, Iโm going back to the room to get some rest.โ
Work had been exhausting lately, and coupled with sleepless nights, Dalton was worn out.
Lydia followed him back to their room.
As soon as they were inside, she hugged him from behind, her hands lightly pressing against his stomach.
โHoneyโฆโ
Dalton knew what she wanted, but he just wasnโt in the mood.
He gently pulled her hands away and turned to face her. โLydia, not now. I really need to rest.โ
Lydia bit her lip and looked up at him. โDo you even care about me? You donโt like me, do you?โ
Dalton sighed and rubbed his temples. โWhy would you think that?โ
โBecause the other night, you called out Merylโs name!โ
