Chapter 96

Harvey scoffed, annoyed by Lauren's naivetรฉ. She had once been a brilliant, captivating woman, but her judgment had faltered since she began seeing Andrew. To make matters worse, she dared to challenge him.

As Cedric completed his examination, Harvey rushed forward with a smile. โ€œDr. Aicker, while Mr. Thatcher's condition might confound others, surely it presents no challenge for someone of your expertise?โ€

Cedric remained silent, his brow deeply furrowed, causing Harvey's heart to pound. "Dr. Aicker, please say something. How is Mr. Thatcher's condition?"

Cedric shook his head, sighing. "I've identified the illness, but I'm afraid it's beyond my abilities to treat."

The room fell silent in shock.

Harvey refused to accept this. "Dr. Aicker, don't underestimate yourself. Mr. Thatcher's life is at stake. Please, do everything you can!"

Cedric replied sharply, "If I could treat him, I would have already. Mr. Thatcher's condition is systemic and terminal."

Harvey's face paled. He had recently returned from abroad, eager to prove himself and impress Christina. Mark's illness had seemed the perfect opportunity, but even Cedric was helpless. Harvey clenched his fists, bitter at the missed chance. He silently cursed Cedric's perceived inadequacy.

Composing himself, Harvey declared, "Everyone, don't worry. The Weller family will immediately contact top specialists from Blumedale and Chetvine. We'll save Mr. Thatcher at any cost!"

Cedric shot him an annoyed glance. "Don't waste your time. Mr. Thatcher doesn't have long. Those so-called specialists won't arrive in time, and they're mediocre practitioners at best."

"Besides," Lauren pointed out, "the Thatcher family has already contacted Blumedale and Chetvine. You're a little late with that suggestion, Harvey."

Others joined in criticizing Harvey, and even the Thatcher family members regarded him with disdain. Comments such as "Exactly, no need to act like we missed something" and "If the Weller family wants credit, there's no need to be so obvious. You're a bit too eager," added to the chorus of disapproval.

Harvey's face flushed crimson with embarrassment. Finally, he snapped, "Fine! Since you're all so clever, tell me who's going to cure Mr. Thatcher's illness?"

It was a difficult question, and all eyes turned hopefully to Cedric.

Suddenly, Lauren spoke. "I have someone in mind who could help."

"You want Andrew to treat Mr. Thatcher?" Harvey scoffed before anyone else could respond.

"Yes, Dr. Lloyd can treat him," Lauren replied confidently.

Harvey laughed mockingly. "If Dr. Aicker can't help, what makes you think that loser can? Lauren, think carefullyโ€”Mr. Thatcher is a high-ranking official. If you allow your unqualified doctor to handle this and make a mistake, can the Rhodes family bear the consequences?"

Others echoed his concerns, expressing their unease. "Ms. Rhodes, Mr. Thatcher's condition is too serious. We can't just trust a random doctor to handle it."
