Chapter 850
Ageless syndrome was an even rarer conditionโone that delved into the very fabric of cellular genetics. Even with Andrewโs near-miraculous medical skills, altering Shilohโs biology was not something he could just do at will.
Shiloh exhaled softly. โSometimes, my memory loss confuses me. I donโt know where I came from, where Iโm supposed to go, or what I once wanted. But over time, Iโve learned to live with it. And honestly, the memories I have now? Theyโre enough.โ
Pausing for a moment, she added, โAs for the ageless syndromeโฆ other than the unbearable, body-wracking pain that sometimes makes me wish I were deadโโ
โThe rest of the time, itโs actually not so bad. Once the pain passes, it feels like my body reawakens, like Iโve been reborn. I feel lighter, freer.โ
Lauren frowned in sympathy. โEven so, I still donโt like the idea of you suffering.โ
Shiloh shook her head. โI donโt feel like Iโm suffering. I have money now, I live in a big house, and Iโm way more comfortable than before. In this city, I can eat what I want, do what I want, and just enjoy myself.โ
Lauren could not help but laugh. โSo, food, fun, making videos, and scrolling on your phone are all you want out of life?โ
Shiloh thought about it seriously and nodded. โYeah. Nothing else really interests me. I donโt know why, but I feel like I used to live a really exhausting life. So now, I just want to keep things simple.โ
Andrew listened carefully, a thoughtful look in his eyes. There was no doubt in his mind that Shilohโs strength was at least at the martial king level.
In martial arts terms, that meant she was not just strongโshe was a one-woman army. Yet, a woman with such terrifying power had no ambition beyond eating good food, making videos, and lazing around. She was basically a glorified couch potato.
However, what really caught his attention was when she said she felt like she used to live a really exhausting life.
Andrew started to wonder if Shiloh was not always like this. Maybe she really had been a legendary fighterโone of those terrifying figures whose name made people tremble. Maybe she had suffered a devastating injury or betrayal that had left her in this state.
Of course, that was just speculation. Whatever her past was, Andrew did not feel the need to dig into it. It was her business, and prying into someone elseโs secrets was just bad manners.
Checking the time, Andrew stretched. โWell, looks like my shiftโs over. Time to head home.โ
Lauren groaned dramatically. โUgh, I wish! Some of us still have to work overtime.โ
Shiloh packed up her things and got up. โWell, you guys have fun with that. Iโm heading out to do some shopping. Maybe see if I can pick up a side gig.โ
Andrew blinked in disbelief. โShiloh, you literally have 20 million dollars sitting in your account. Why are you even thinking about getting a part-time job? Just order takeout and relax!โ
Shiloh shook her head. โI completely disagree. Young people shouldnโt be lazy. Besides, 20 million sounds like a lot, but itโs not enough to last me a lifetime. And letโs be realโI have no idea how long Iโm gonna live.
โAfter wrapping up your commercial, Iโve got nothing to do. Might as well work some odd jobs, save up a little extra. It adds up over time.โ
With that, she waved them off and casually walked out of Rhodes Corporation.
Andrew turned to Lauren. โIs she always like this?โ
Lauren sighed. โYep. Ever since you brought her into the company, if sheโs not busy, she just goes out looking for work. Dishwashing, cleaning housesโwhatever random job she can find. Iโve tried talking her out of it, but she wonโt listen.โ
Andrew did not even know how to respond. Shiloh was a martial kingโa fighter strong enough to make nations tremble. Yet, she was out here scrubbing dishes for pocket change.
Something about that just felt fundamentally wrong.
