Chapter 683

Aspenโ€™s face darkened with anger as she barked, โ€œChristie, you listen to me. You are not any less than Andrew. The decision you made back then wasnโ€™t wrong. Youโ€™re Christina Stevens, the elegant CEO of the Stevens Corporation. Are you really willing to admit that you were blind, that you misjudged Andrew so badly?โ€

For a moment, Christina hesitated, confusion flickering across her tear-streaked face. She shook her head. โ€œNoโ€ฆ of course I donโ€™t want to admit that I was blind, that I couldnโ€™t see what was right in front of me.โ€

She mumbled, โ€œBut whatโ€™s the point in denying it when the truth is so obvious? I was wrongโ€”horribly, irredeemably wrong.โ€

A bitter, broken laugh escaped her lips. The proud, confident woman she once was faded like the closing credits of a movie. All that remained was sorrow, regret, and a hollow sense of defeat.

Aspen let out a short, cold huff. โ€œChristie, youโ€™re too kindโ€”you always blame yourself for other peopleโ€™s mistakes. Think about it. Andrewโ€™s the one snuggling up to Lauren and Francesca now, living off those women like some gold-digger. And you? Youโ€™re the victim here.

โ€œIf he really loved you, he never wouldโ€™ve left. He wouldโ€™ve stayed, wouldโ€™ve fought for you. So stop it; you didnโ€™t do anything wrong.โ€

Tears streamed down Christinaโ€™s face. โ€œBut I was the one who broke up with himโ€ฆ I was the one who turned cold right before our wedding. I destroyed his heart, Aspen. Iโ€”I was a blind, arrogant woman chasing after vanity and ambition.โ€

Aspenโ€™s lips curled into a mocking smile. โ€œAnd did you ever think maybe this pathetic breakdown of yours is exactly what Andrew wants to see? Letโ€™s say you hurt himโ€”so what? People make mistakes. Nobodyโ€™s perfect.โ€

She argued, โ€œIf Andrew truly loved you, would he have called you an idiot? Would he have turned around and run straight into Laurenโ€™s arms? No real man would give up so easily. He clearly didnโ€™t deserve you. And what kind of man runs off the moment he doesnโ€™t get what he wants? If youโ€™d married him, youโ€™d be the one suffering now. You got lucky, trust me.โ€

Christinaโ€™s mind spiraled into confusion. Aspenโ€™s twisted words wormed their way into her thoughts like poison.

โ€œDo you really think so, Aspen?โ€ she whispered, her voice trembling.

โ€œOf course I do,โ€ Aspen answered with certainty. โ€œEveryone knows how exceptional you are, Christie. You made one mistakeโ€”big deal. You misjudged Andrewโ€”so what? Heโ€™s a man, isnโ€™t he? Whereโ€™s his maturity? His patience?โ€

She added, โ€œLook at Harveyโ€”heโ€™s trash, sureโ€”but even he canโ€™t forget you. And you? If you gave the word, youโ€™d have wealthy heirs, CEOs, and hotshot investors tripping over themselves just to get a date with you. Finding a man is easy. You know what they say: there are plenty of fish in the sea.โ€

This twisted logic seeped into Christinaโ€™s heart. She wiped away her tears and slowly nodded, mumbling, โ€œAspen, youโ€™re right. I mightโ€™ve misjudged Andrew, but it wasnโ€™t all my fault. All I wanted was to chase after something bigger, to build something with my own two hands.

โ€œI had dreams, ambition, a vision for success. How was that wrong? No, I wasnโ€™t wrong. No one should ever be shamed for chasing their dreams. I need to find Andrewโ€ฆ I need to talk to him and set things straight.โ€

Aspenโ€™s face twisted with concern. โ€œWait, Christieโ€ฆ youโ€™re not seriously thinking about getting back with him, are you?โ€

Christina went quiet for a long moment, then shook her head. โ€œI donโ€™t know what the future holds for us. But I do know this: Iโ€™ll prove to Andrew and myself that even without him, I can carve out my own success.โ€
