Chapter 529

Rubyโ€™s gaze lingered on Troy with a mix of pity and ridicule. She said, โ€œMr. MacAfee, some things canโ€™t be forced. A manโ€™s body doesnโ€™t lie. Once age catches up with youโ€“and especially if youโ€™ve overindulged in wine and womenโ€“itโ€™s no use pretending. When it stops working, it stops working.โ€

Troy roared in frustration. โ€œNo! My heart still burns with passion! Iโ€™m still ready for battle!โ€

Ruby let out a light laugh. โ€œAh, but your weapon is rusted and brittle. Itโ€™s no longer fit for combat. Tell me, how can a knight without a proper sword hope to ride onto the battlefield?โ€

Troy slumped on the bed, looking like the life had been drained out of him. He could not stand itโ€“he was sitting in front of a feast, yet his body refused to let him enjoy it. No matter how much his pride resisted, his bodyโ€™s limits were absolute.

Pulling his clothes on hastily, Troy muttered, โ€œBaby, give me a few days to recover, and weโ€™ll go again. I promise Iโ€™ll make you beg for mercy next time.โ€

Ruby, exhaling a puff of smoke, replied with indifference, โ€œMr. MacAfee, perhaps you should go home and focus on your health first.โ€

Troy grabbed his briefcase and left the hotel, shoulders slumped in defeat.

As he stepped out the door, a familiar voice greeted him with a light chuckle. โ€œWell, Mr. MacAfee, isnโ€™t this a coincidence?โ€

Troy froze, looking up to see Lauren with Andrew beside her, both regarding him with amused expressions.

โ€œMโ€“Ms. Rhodesโ€ฆ Whatโ€ฆ what are you doing here?โ€ Troy stammered, his voice trembling.

Laurenโ€™s smile was as cold as ice. โ€œWhat Iโ€™m doing here isnโ€™t important. Whatโ€™s important is that, when I called you earlier, you said you were at a restaurant discussing business with a client, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Troyโ€™s palms began to sweat as he secretly cursed his rotten luck, โ€˜Why is it always these two?โ€˜

โ€œWell, Iโ€ฆ Yes, I wasโ€ฆ discussing business. Itโ€™s just thatโ€ฆโ€ Troy chuckled nervously as he fumbled for words.

Laurenโ€™s smile widened into a sharp smirk. โ€œLet me guessโ€“โ€˜business discussionsโ€˜ that conveniently ended up in a hotel suite?โ€

โ€œTroy, letโ€™s not beat around the bush. Do you think I donโ€™t know what youโ€™re doing here?โ€

Troyโ€™s face darkened, and he growled, โ€œMs. Rhodes, even if you do know, so what? Mr. Rhodes already stated he wouldnโ€™t interfere in my personal life. Whether Iโ€™m meeting a client or doing something else, itโ€™s none of your concern.โ€

He was already frustrated by Rubyโ€™s dismissive attitude and could not bear to grovel any further. He thought, โ€˜So what if Lauren knows I was here with Ruby? This is my private life, and she has no right to meddle in it!โ€˜

Laurenโ€™s voice turned calm and cutting. โ€œMr. MacAfee, thereโ€™s no need to get so defensive. Who you sleep with and who you cheat with is your businessโ€“honestly, I couldnโ€™t care less.โ€

โ€œBut let me remind you,โ€ she added, her tone sharp as a blade, โ€œyou hold a critical position at Rhodes Corporation. If you ever confuse personal pleasures with professional responsibilitiesโ€”if you dare sell out the company for whatโ€™s between your legsโ€“youโ€™ll be seeing the inside of a courtroom.โ€

Troyโ€™s face flushed with anger as he snapped, โ€œMs. Rhodes, if youโ€™re accusing me of leaking company secrets or betraying corporate interests, then youโ€™d better have evidence to back it up! Otherwise, donโ€™t waste my time with baseless accusations.โ€

Lauren smiled sweetly, her eyes gleaming with mockery. โ€œOh, my dear Mr. MacAfee, you seem awfully nervous. Are you feeling guilty about something?โ€

Troyโ€™s heart raced, but he forced himself to maintain his composure. โ€œIโ€™ve done nothing wrong, Ms. Rhodes. A clean conscience fears no shadow. If you have doubts about me, Iโ€™m more than willing to submit to an investigation by Mr. Rhodes.โ€

Lauren waved him off with a smirk. โ€œDonโ€™t try to use Michael to intimidate me. Iโ€™ve said all I need to say - take care of yourself.โ€

As she turned to Andrew, she asked with a teasing smile, โ€œDr. Lloyd, Iโ€™ve heard that people who indulge in promiscuity often end up catchingโ€ฆ diseases. Is that true?โ€

Andrew nodded, his tone matter-of-fact. โ€œItโ€™s not guaranteed, but yes, people who are reckless in their relationships are at a much higher risk of contracting diseases.โ€

Lauren raised an eyebrow, her smirk widening, as Troyโ€™s face flushed an even deeper shade of red. His fists clenched tightly around his briefcase as he hurried away, muttering curses under his breath.
