Bernard and Philip approached, looking apologetic. โWeโre sorry, Ms. Rhodes,โ Bernard began. โMs. Ceceliaโs condition is critical. Weโve done all we can.โ
Philip added, his voice laced with frustration, โThe initial treatment seemed promising, but suddenly, her breathing weakened dramatically. Itโs not a lack of skill, Ms. Rhodes. Weโre facing an impossible situation.โ
Before Philip finished, Lauren slapped him.
โMs. Rhodes, what was thatโฆ?โ Bernard began, but Lauren cut him off.
โYou idiot!โ she seethed, trembling with rage. โDidnโt you boast about saving Cece?โ
Philip stood speechless and humiliated, his cheek stinging. Lauren turned to Bernard, her voice dripping venom. โDr. Hackett, Iโll ask you one last time. Is there anyone else who can help? If anything happens to her, you and your incompetent son will face severe consequences.โ
Bernard, visibly shaken, stammered, โThere isโฆ one person we could tryโฆ Dr. Andrew Lloyd.โ
โWho?โ
โDr. Andrew Lloyd.โ
Laurenโs eyes lit up. โOf course! Dr. Lloyd! Quick, get him!โ
Consumed by jealousy, Philip mocked, โAndrewโs in my department. Heโs not up to this task.โ
Laurenโs eyes flashed. โShut your mouth! If you dare speak again, Iโll remove your tongue!โ
Philipโs face paled, knowing heโd ruined his reputation. Yet, he couldnโt bear Andrewโs favor.
Andrew arrived. He glanced at Lauren and said sternly, โThereโs no need to summon me. Saving lives is my job. As the patientโs sister, you should focus on helping, not venting. Come with me.โ
Laurenโs cheeks flushed at his unexpected rebuke. She was stunned. Eunice intervened, โDr. Lloyd, please show more respect to Ms. Rhodes.โ
Andrew, already striding toward the emergency room, replied without turning, โI prioritize whatโs right over whoโs important. If that offends you, find another doctor.โ
As Eunice sputtered, Lauren raised a hand to stop her. Watching Andrew, she realized his blunt words hadnโt angered her.
In the emergency room, Andrew donned gloves and began. The little girl on the operating table was deathly pale, bluish, and barely breathing.
Philip and Bernard watched, internally scoffing. They thought the case hopeless and were eager to see Andrew fail. If Cecelia died, they could shift the blame.
โAndrew, weโve tried everything,โ Philip said coldly. โWhat else can you do?โ
Ignoring him, Andrew requested a scalpel from a nearby nurse and made an incision on Ceceliaโs wrist. Blood flowed, alarming everyone.
Bernard exclaimed, โDr. Lloyd, what are you doing? How can you justify bloodletting?โ
Lauren watched, equally frightened. Andrew replied calmly, โIโm draining toxins. Initially, the poison was superficial, treatable with medication. But due to the delay, itโs in her bloodstream. Bloodletting is our only option.โ
Philip retorted angrily, โThatโs nonsense! I wouldโve noticed poison immediately.โ
Just then, another doctor gasped, โIt is poison! Her blood is turning black!โ
Ceceliaโs blood had turned murky black. Philipโs face reddened with embarrassment.
Bernard frowned. โDr. Lloyd, sheโs a child. Even if you remove the toxins, she might not survive the blood loss.โ
Andrew remained composed. โWeโll give her a blood transfusion during detoxification.โ
Bernard shook his head. โThatโs impossible.โ
Andrew turned to Lauren, gesturing to her wrist. โYouโre sisters, and your blood types match. Youโll donate blood.โ
Bernard immediately objected, โDr. Lloyd, this is madness! Youโll cause her blood pressure to skyrocket. No one could save her then.โ
Another senior doctor added, โAndrew, this method wonโt work. At the very least, draw Ms. Rhodesโ blood first and transfuse it properly.โ
Andrew had already connected Lauren and Cecelia with an IV line. โUnder normal circumstances, youโd be correct. But we canโt afford delays.โ
Philip seized the opportunity. โYou talk a good game, but youโll cause harm. Cecelia and Ms. Rhodes will be at risk.โ
Andrewโs tone grew cold. โYouโve been interfering. If youโre so knowledgeable, why donโt you take over?โ
Philip bit his lip. โFine, letโs see how you save her.โ
With lightning speed, Andrew pressed several points on Ceceliaโs body. Blood from Lauren flowed smoothly into Cecelia, while poisoned blood drained from the other wrist. The process seemed perfectly balanced. Color returned to Ceceliaโs face.
The medical staff were stunned. Bernard looked at Andrew, unable to hide his shock.
โDr. Lloyd, w-was thatโฆ some sort of pressure-point techniqueโฆ from an ancient medical practice?โ
