Chapter 491
After leaving Michaelโs office, Andrew said, โMs. Rhodes, Mr. Chapman, donโt give upโthe game isnโt over yet.โ
Lauren turned to Marcus. โMr. Chapman, you can work in another department temporarily. Iโll make sure you get your position back.โ
Marcus waved his hand tiredly and replied, โNo need, Mr. Lloyd and Ms. Rhodesโyouโve both helped me enough. At my age, perhaps itโs time to wake up and let go of these ambitious pursuits. Maybe living a simple life as an ordinary person is the right choice for me.โ
Lauren quickly protested, โMr. Chapman, you donโt have to do this!โ
Marcus shook his head and smiled at them both. โMs. Rhodes and Mr. Lloyd, when you have children of your own, maybe youโll understand how I feel right now.โ
Lauren blushed and shot Andrew a shy glare.
Just then, a bearded man strode over with a grin, saying, โAh, Ms. Rhodes, Mr. Lloyd, and Mr. Chapmanโall together! I just heard Mr. Chapman talking about wanting to live a simple life. What an excellent idea!โ
He gave Marcus a thumbs-up with a smirk and added, โWell done, Mr. Chapman! If you hadnโt stepped away from the Pharmaceutical Division, I wouldnโt have been able to take over.โ
Marcusโs face darkened as he replied, โMr. MacAfee, youโve been eyeing my position for a while. Now that youโve got it, I bet it tastes sweet?โ
Lauren added coldly, โMr. MacAfee, you and Mr. Chapman are both company veterans and used to be friends. Are you really proud of taking your colleagueโs job?โ
Troy MacAfee shrugged and said, โIn business, you either move forward or fall behind. Everyone wants the positionโif Mr. Chapman couldnโt handle it, why shouldnโt I step up? Ms. Rhodes, thereโs no need to make it sound so uglyโI earned this position fair and square.โ
Marcus angrily retorted, โFine, you took my position, but you donโt need to gloat about it. If Mr. Rhodes hadnโt favored you, do you really think you could have replaced me?โ
Troy mocked, โWell, thatโs exactly the difference between us. Youโre capable but donโt know how to read the room. To be blunt, youโre missing a few screws! Mr. Rhodes is such a talented figure, yet you oppose him instead of following him. You deserve to end up like this!โ
With that, Troy strutted into Michaelโs office, laughing triumphantly.
Marcus said solemnly, โI never expected Troy to side with Mr. Rhodes. Ms. Rhodes, your situation in the company will likely get more difficult each day.โ
Lauren scoffed. โIโve never been afraid of incompetent people like Michael!โ
Andrew suggested, โItโs almost time to leave work. Ms. Rhodes, letโs call it a day and make plans for tomorrow.โ
Lauren nodded in agreement, โAlright, weโll talk tomorrow.โ
After work, Andrew was planning to return directly to Moonlit Sanctuary, but Lauren held onto his arm, refusing to let him go.
โDr. Lloyd, wonโt you take me shopping?โ she asked in a sweet, clingy voice.
Andrew smiled and replied, โAlright, I have nothing else planned anyway.โ
Lauren said happily, โThank you, my Dr. Lloyd! Oh, and Dr. Lloyd, I have a small request.โ
โWhat is it, Ms. Rhodes?โ
Lauren asked reluctantly, โCould you stop calling me Ms. Rhodes? It makes us sound too formal. Iโd like you to call me Lauren or Laurie.โ
Andrew hesitated for a moment before forcing a smile and saying, โAlright, Iโll call you Lauren. Laurie sounds a bit too affectionate, so letโs skip that!โ
