Chapter 2217

โ€œMajor Becker, stand down!โ€

Conrad finally spoke up, his voice hoarse and clearly lacking strength.

Liamโ€™s face twisted with anger as he replied, โ€œYes, sir. However, I still have something to say. He doesnโ€™t deserve to return to Chetvine. He and his father are both traitors, and everyone knows that. His very existence is a stain on this country and the organization he once belonged to.โ€

Conrad stepped forward slowly, his tone flat and cold. โ€œI donโ€™t like repeating orders twice. Stand down. You donโ€™t need to say anything more.โ€

Liamโ€™s eyelid twitched as he recognized that Conrad was truly angry. He immediately stepped aside obediently.

Andrew raised an eyebrow and smiled. โ€œLooks like youโ€™ve accomplished quite a bit in ten years. Even trash like him has been trained by you to follow orders and show patriotic honor. I guess heโ€™s got some backbone after all, not completely useless.โ€

Conradโ€™s gaze remained steady and emotionless as he stared at Andrew.

After a long silence, he slowly shook his head with disappointment. โ€œAndrew, honestly, youโ€™ve let me down.โ€

Andrew made a sound of interest, still smiling. โ€œOh? Disappointing the great genius? Iโ€™m all ears.โ€

Conrad looked away, his eyes filled with deathly emptiness. โ€œRight now, I have at least three fatal wounds on my body. If I fight you, I have a 50% chance of killing you. But equally, I have a 50% chance of dying myself. The outside world spreads rumors that Iโ€™m a fighting maniac whoโ€™s become nothing but a machine in pursuit of strength and the limits of human potential.

โ€œBut these mediocre fools, these useless pieces of garbage, how could they possibly understand me? For ten years, every single thing Iโ€™ve doneโ€ฆ Listen carefully, every single thingโ€ฆ has had only one goal.

โ€œIt has nothing to do with glory, nothing to do with my family, and nothing to do with this country. It only concerns one person, and thatโ€™s you. I wanted to prove to everyone that the organization was wrong when they chose you.

โ€œThey groomed you as the next leader, the third master of power, the man who would control all four hidden divisions and stand as the uncrowned king of this capital. I want to prove how laughable, how absurd that was, because I was the one truly worthy.โ€

By the time he finished speaking, Conradโ€™s voice was laced with an icy, penetrating chill. His eyes seemed to churn with dark, tidal intensity, locked unblinkingly on Andrew.

He continued, โ€œTen years, and youโ€™ve finally come back. I want an answer, the same answer I wanted ten years ago. Why did the organization choose you back then? I know you wonโ€™t give me an answer, and those old fossils in the organization wonโ€™t either.

โ€œThey watched me fall, watched me suffer, watched me walk down a path of no return, and still did nothing. But at least I can do one thing to retaliate, to rebel, to express my dissatisfactionโ€ฆ And thatโ€™s to crush you!โ€

Conrad grinned wickedly. Blood silently trickled from the corner of his mouth, a stark reminder of his condition.

Liam was horrified. โ€œGeneral, you canโ€™t push your body any further!โ€

Conrad bared his teeth and forced a growl from his throat. โ€œGetโ€ฆ away. Donโ€™t interfere with my business. Andrew, make your move. Today, either you die or I do. I have to prove that I am no worse than you.โ€

Andrew shrugged casually. โ€œListen, buddy, youโ€™ve already burned through half your life force, and youโ€™re still this determined to fight. Just because I came back and you canโ€™t stand it, you want to kill me?โ€

Conradโ€™s expression remained cold. โ€œI donโ€™t find you unbearable. Itโ€™s just that this town isnโ€™t big enough for both of us. You left the organization as a traitor and should have been torn apart for it. But somehow youโ€™re still alive, and you had the audacity to return to Chetvine openly. I donโ€™t believe in fate or lucky escapes.

โ€œThereโ€™s only one explanation for all of this: those old bastards have always favored you and kept their bets and trust with you. But what about me? Iโ€™ve put in 10,000 times the effort since I was young, pushing myself, even destroying myself. The facts prove that Iโ€™m no weaker than anyone else.โ€
