Andrew didn't know the exact amount on the bank card, but he was certain it could buy Stevens Corporation tenfold. Moments before, Christina and Irene hadn't even glanced at the cards, Irene dismissing them as junk.
As the elevator doors opened, Andrew stepped out.
"Well, well, if it isn't Andrew! You don't look so good," a mocking voice greeted him.
Andrew looked up to see Shawn Fields, Jayrodale's infamous trust fund baby and one of Christina's most persistent admirers, impeccably dressed and holding blue roses.
Ignoring him, Andrew attempted to sidestep, but Shawn blocked his path. Andrew's eyes hardened.
"Do you need something? If not, please move."
Shawn grinned. "Look, everyone, Christina's lapdog is barking! Let me guess, the Stevens family kicked you to the curb, huh?"
Spotting the ring box, Shawn sneered. "This is probably some cheap trinket! As if Christina would ever want that. Let's all have a look!"
He knocked the box from Andrew's hand, scattering its contents. The lid sprang open, revealing a stunning pink diamond that rolled across the floor.
Shawn's eyes widened. "Isn't thatโฆ the famous pink diamond from Radiant Jewelers? The Jayrodale King of Diamonds?" He gasped. "It's a seven-and-a-half-million-dollar diamond? How the hell did you get that?"
The commotion drew a crowd of Stevens Corporation employees and onlookers, all staring at the jewelโthe fantasy of countless Jayrodale women, a dream gift beyond anyone's reach.
Andrew calmly retrieved and closed the box, a cold glint in his eye. With things over with Christina, politeness toward her parasites felt unnecessary.
Shawn barked at his bodyguards, "Grab him! Make him tell us where he got that diamond. A nobody like him has no right to touch it!"
Before the bodyguards could react, Andrew spun and delivered a resounding slap across Shawn's face.
Shawn grunted, spitting blood and a tooth, landing several meters away. His bloodshot eyes bulged in disbelief. He couldn't comprehend this former nobody daring to strike him.
The bodyguards, momentarily stunned, quickly recovered and charged. Two swift punches from Andrew rendered them unconscious.
Shawn was dumbfounded. When had this loser become so formidable? The surrounding employees recoiled, shocked by Andrew's sudden violence.
After a cold glance at the whimpering Shawn, Andrew walked away. Christina and Irene arrived shortly after, alerted by the commotion.
"Oh, Shawn! Who dared hurt you?" Irene rushed to his side.
Clutching his swollen face, Shawn snarled, "That loser Andrew! I'll make him pay tenfold!"
Irene exploded. "What? That bastard dared offend you? I bet he was bitter about Christina rejecting him! That useless trash, I won't let him get away with this!"
Shawn's face lit up. "Christina, is it true? Have you cut ties with that loser?"
Christina disliked Shawn and replied coldly, "My personal affairs are none of your concern. Why did Andrew hit you? He doesn't start fights without reason."
Shawn gritted his teeth. "Who knows what was in that lunatic's mind? But Christina, you won't believe what I saw. That psycho stole the King of Diamonds from Radiant Jewelersโthat seven-and-a-half-million-dollar pink diamondโto impress you!"
Christina was startled. "What? He stole the King of Diamonds?" The gem was legendary in Jayrodale high society; she'd secretly dreamed of wearing it on her wedding day.
Shawn insisted, "I saw it! Ask the employees. That guy's got a death wish!"
Christina frowned, skeptical. "Andrew might not be wealthy, but he'd never stoop to theft."
Shawn sneered, "Precisely because he's poor! How else could he get that ring?"
Irene chimed in, "It must be stolen!" She inwardly regretted returning Andrew's box, unaware of its contents.
Christina questioned several employees. Confirming Andrew possessed the King of Diamonds, her face hardened with anger.
"This is ridiculous. Being poor isn't shameful, but trying to impress me through theft only makes me despise you more!" She pulled out her phone and began dialing.
