Scarlett growled, โHenry held his ground with the strength of a martial saint, so he managed to protect himself until backup arrived. But I wasnโt that lucky. Facing the Yeagersโ elders, I couldnโt even lift a hand in defense. If Edwin Pennyworth, the McCormick familyโs head butler, hadnโt shown up at the last moment, I wouldโve died right there.โ
As she spoke, her face contorted with hatred. Maurice, Walter, and Bradley all fell into stunned silence. Scarlett had always been known as domineering and untouchable in Blumedale. She was one of the most feared figures in the Driscoll family, commanding half its power with absolute authority.
Yet now, this 40-year-old woman sat with teary eyes. It was a pitiful sight, and hard to believe.
โWhat about Henry?โ Maurice finally asked after a long pause. โWhat happened to him in the end?โ
Scarlett gritted her teeth. โHe was nearly killed by Victoria Sanchez from the Peck family. The two of them started fighting at the Yeager estate and didnโt stop until sundown."
Mauriceโs eyes widened. โWhat about Edwin? He just stood there and watched?โ
Scarlettโs lips twitched. โEdwin warned her, but that crazy woman ignored him completely. She didnโt give a damn about the McCormick familyโs name. Ultimately, Edwin backed down, and Henry was beaten for nothing. If Victoria had already broken into the martial saint level, Henry would be a corpse by now.โ
Bradley let out a slow, heavy breath, stunned. โWhy would Victoria go after Henry? Doesnโt she know the Fischer family isnโt to be trifled with?โ
Scarlettโs expression turned ice cold. โIt all comes back to Andrew. Victoria and Andrewโฆ whatever their relationship is, I donโt know. But that bitch went all the way to Goldridge just to fight for him. What the hell was she thinking?โ
Maurice slammed his palm down on the armrest. โEnough. Weโve heard enough! Send Joe to Goldridge. At the very least, we need to salvage the Driscoll familyโs interests there. And that Victoriaโฆ if sheโs so eager to die, then letโs give her what she wants.โ
Bradley hesitated. โSir, Victoria isnโt an easy target. Her power rivals a martial saintโs. Realistically, only you could deal with her directly.โ
Maurice sneered. โSheโs not worth my time. She may be strong, but the Peck family is a washed-up mess full of holes. Weโll go through Calvin. That man has been groveling at his wifeโs feet for years. And a disobedient dog often bites people in the most unexpected and deadly ways."
Scarlettโs voice was venomous. โIโll take Andrewโs life with my own hands.โ
Walter grinned darkly. โMs. Driscoll, allow me to join you. Weโll crush that little bastard together.โ
Maurice raised his hand, then brought it down sharply. โBradley, youโre joining them, too! All three of you attack Andrew together. This time, he must die.โ
Bradley stiffened. โIs it really necessary, sir? My role is to stand guard against the Phelans or the Fischer family, not to kill one man.โ
Maurice clenched his jaw. โI donโt care anymore! Right now nothing else matters but killing Andrew. He shouldโve been dead long ago.โ
Bradley nodded slowly. โUnderstood.โ
With Scarlett, Bradley, and Walter joining forcesโthree of the Driscoll familyโs top fightersโkilling one man should have been more than enough.
Chapter 1921
Scarlett was not done. She narrowed her eyes. โIโm bringing in someone else, too. With him on our side, I wonโt have to worry. This time, if Andrew doesnโt die, I wonโt stop until Iโm dead myself.โ
Walter asked, โWho are you thinking of bringing in, Ms. Driscoll?โ
Scarlettโs voice was chilling. โFranklin Gurney.โ
Walter inhaled sharply, then exhaled slowly and nodded. โIf he joins us, itโs a done deal.โ
Bradley stroked his beard and smiled. โIf Ms. Driscoll can really bring in the number one martial artist in Gabo Creek, then Andrewโs fate is sealed.โ
