Chapter 1640

Andrew found himself taking the jab out of nowhere and could only laugh awkwardly.

Aspen looked up from the couch and gasped, โ€œOh my goodness! Itโ€™s almost 11 p.m., and Ms. Garciaโ€™s still in the kitchen?โ€

Lauren jumped up in alarm. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ youโ€™re right! We totally forgot. Letโ€™s check on her!โ€

Francesca, wearing her cartoon slippers, was already rushing toward the kitchen. โ€œMs. Garcia, please donโ€™t tell me you passed out from exhaustion!โ€

Just then, Chantelle finally emerged, her cheeks flushed a soft red. She was clearly embarrassed as she said, โ€œS-Sorry about that, everyone. I just finished cleaning up, Iโ€™ll be taking my leave now.โ€

Lauren looked apologetic. โ€œMs. Garcia, Iโ€™m so sorry. We got so caught up in the show that we forgot about you!โ€

Aspen said, โ€œMs. Garcia, weโ€™ll walk you to the door!โ€

Chantelle waved her hand. โ€œNo need, I can manage by myself. Itโ€™s already late, so you all should get some rest!โ€

She took two steps forward but suddenly grabbed onto the door frame, looking a bit dizzy.

Lauren was startled and rushed over. โ€œMs. Garcia, are you okay?โ€

Chantelle waved to indicate she was fine. Then, she suddenly cried out, โ€œOh no, I forgot that we canโ€™t drive after drinking!โ€

Francesca looked suspicious. โ€œBut we didnโ€™t drink any alcohol during dinner!โ€

Chantelle said regretfully, โ€œWe didnโ€™t drink during dinner, but while I was cleaning in the kitchen, I noticed Mr. Lloyd had some really nice wine and couldnโ€™t help but taste a couple of sips! My badโ€ฆ I shouldnโ€™t have indulged!โ€

Her face was now clearly flushed from the alcohol, and her slightly wobbly posture indicated she could not handle liquor well at all.

Aspen shrugged. โ€œWell, if youโ€™ve been drinking, you absolutely canโ€™t drive.โ€

She turned to the group and said, โ€œHow about we just let Ms. Garcia crash here tonight?โ€

Francesca thought for a moment. โ€œI mean, why not? Depends on whether sheโ€™s okay with it.โ€

Chantelle quickly replied, โ€œTotally okay! I justโ€ฆ donโ€™t want to trouble anyone.โ€

Lauren smiled warmly. โ€œYouโ€™re not troubling anyone. Weโ€™ve got more than enough rooms. Besides, weโ€™re all girls here, so itโ€™s no big deal!โ€

Francesca said, โ€œAspen, letโ€™s go upstairs and get a room ready!โ€

Aspen replied, โ€œAwesome, letโ€™s go!โ€

Lauren added, โ€œAndrew, you chat with Ms. Garcia for a bit! While they set up the room, Iโ€™ll go get some bedding.โ€

Andrew smiled. โ€œSounds good, go ahead!โ€

Once the three women left, Andrewโ€™s gaze immediately returned to Chantelle with extreme suspicion.

Chantelle felt an inexplicable chill and tried to appear calm. โ€œMr. Lloyd, I hope you donโ€™t mind! If I hadnโ€™t been drinking, I definitely would have gone home.โ€

Andrew nodded. โ€œItโ€™s fineโ€“no need to be so formal. Weโ€™re friends now, right? But Ms. Garcia, will this mess with your work schedule tomorrow?โ€

Chantelle shook her head. โ€œNot at all. Iโ€™ll leave early in the morning.โ€

An awkward silence fell between them. Neither of them knew what to say next, but Andrew could not shake the feeling that something was not adding up.

Could this woman have deliberately drunk alcohol so she could not drive, giving her a perfect excuse to stay overnight?

From her volunteering to wash dishes in the kitchen to later making a fuss about needing to mop the floor, this whole series of actions looked to Andrew like she was deliberately stalling for time.
