Chapter 1624

As he straightened his suit, Andrew slowly got out of his car.

The young man was charging at him, full of fury, but Andrew did not bother exchanging words. His eyes flashed coldly, and he raised a hand, ready to slam that idiotโ€™s face into the back of the car.

โ€œBoth of you, stop! Reckless driving and intentional collisions carry serious consequences!โ€

Just then, the law enforcement arrived on the scene. Four officers jumped out of their cruiser, surrounding the two men with stern expressions.

The punk clutched his bleeding nose and barked, โ€œIt was this son of a bitch! He started it! Iโ€™m Gary from the Hickman family. Iโ€™m on my way to meet Mr. Joe Driscoll, so you guys better handle this right.โ€

The moment he dropped Driscollโ€™s name, the officers' expressions shifted completely.

โ€œApologies, Mr. Hickman, weโ€™ve reviewed the situation. Youโ€™re not at fault. He is.โ€

โ€œIf youโ€™re in a hurry to meet Mr. Driscoll, go ahead. Weโ€™ll take care of everything else.โ€

Their attitude did a full 180, suddenly all smiles and flattery.

Gary gave a smug, nasty grin and pointed at Andrew. โ€œNot so fast. I want to watch you arrest this little bastard first.โ€

He scoffed and added, โ€œMy dad and Chief Pedro Lawson were once classmates, so donโ€™t go soft. I shouldnโ€™t have to spell this out for you.โ€

The officers' expressions turned stone cold as they faced Andrew. Internally, they mocked him for being another unlucky punk who picked the wrong rich kid to mess with in Blumedale.

They commanded, โ€œHands on the car! Head down! This carโ€™s not street legal. Weโ€™re impounding it. Youโ€™re also coming with us to the station for questioning.โ€

Another said, โ€œReckless driving and public assault? Mr. Hickman may suffer permanent injuries! So get ready because youโ€™re probably looking at a long stay behind bars.โ€

They did not ask for evidence or context, but just came in ready to jail Andrew and seize his car.

Andrew remained calm. โ€œShouldnโ€™t officers review surveillance footage and examine the facts before determining fault in an accident? Or are you planning to abuse your authority by taking this idiotโ€™s word and kissing up to the wealthy?โ€

One officer laughed dismissively and replied, โ€œSo, you do have some legal knowledge. Too bad this is Blumedale, a place ruled by old money families, the wealthy, and powerful officials. You messed with Mr. Hickman, and do you know who he works for?โ€

Andrew shrugged and said, โ€œWho else could it be but that famous Mr. Joe Driscoll?โ€

The officer snorted coldly. โ€œSince you do know the name, who gave you the balls to mess with someone in his circle? Do you have any idea what kind of person he is? Heโ€™s the pride of our Gabo Creek state, the idol of every young man! Forget it, you wouldnโ€™t understand. Youโ€™re not even in the same league as him.โ€

โ€œNow move. Time to head to the station and take responsibility for what you did.โ€

Andrew frowned. โ€œAs I said, it was this idiot who provoked me first. And if youโ€™re going to treat people based on status, youโ€™d better be ready when I report this abuse of authority!โ€

The officer scoffed. โ€œJudging by how you carry yourself, youโ€™re in the game, too. Think weโ€™re scared of a report? Sure, the lawโ€™s a thing, but some people? Theyโ€™re just above it. You ticked off the wrong one, and no lawโ€™s gonna save you now.โ€

Andrew stood silent for a moment. Then, he laughed. โ€œI guess a person really does need status and position to survive in todayโ€™s society. Without them, even when youโ€™re right, they can twist it to make you wrong.โ€
