After dealing with Toraโs situation, Andrew began giving offlers to his own people. As for the others, he could not be bothered with them.
Chantelle followed suit and said, โMr. Sutton, Mr. Veyne, go start a fire too and prepare food.โ
After speaking, she walked over to Andrew. โMr. Lloyd, I thought youโฆโ
Andrew cut her off with a cold smirk. โYou thought Iโd turn a blind eye and let him die, didnโt you?โ
Chantelle gave a sheepish smile. โNo, not exactly. I just assumed you believed Tora was beyond saving.โ
Andrew said flatly, โRight now, thereโs still no solid cure for necrotic venom. But at the end of the day, heโs still a living, breathing man. And Tora? He earned my respectโloyal, fearless, no nonsense. So if thereโs even a sliver of a chance, Iโll take it.โ
Chantelle smiled softly. โGovernor McCormick always said you were a man of principle, and he wasnโt wrong.โ
Andrew snorted. โNow that Iโve stepped in to save someone, youโre full of praise, Ms. Garcรญa. But if Iโd kept quiet, you probably wouldโve lumped me in with Kevin and Buzzโcold-blooded and selfish.โ
Chantelle shook her head, firm. โMr. Lloyd, Iโve never thought that about you. Iโve always known youโre not cut from the same cloth as Kevin.โ
Andrew waved her off. โEnough talkโgo handle your team. We move at first light. Until then, nobodyโs going anywhere near that cursed place.โ
He took the dried meat Natasha had handed over and dropped down to sit on the cold earth, tearing into it hungrily. They had not had a proper meal since entering Gallowโs End heritage hamlet, and after a full night of hiking and danger, Andrew was starving.
Kevin wandered over, arms crossed, letting out a gruff snort. โAndy, when the sun comes up, my familyโs team moves with yours. This cursed dump killed so many of my people. Iโm not leaving until itโs wiped off the map.โ
Andrew did not respond. He just tore off another hunk of meat and chewed it slowly.
Kevin had nothing with him, and he was starving. He shamelessly said, โHey, throw me some of that! Iโm starving here.โ
Without missing a beat, Andrew moved the dried meat away and gave him a crooked smile. โKevin, freeloading like thatโs a no-go.โ
Kevin was stunned. Then, his face darkened. โAndrew, what the hell is that supposed to mean? Iโm the head of the Wright family and your sworn brother. You really wonโt even spare me a bite?โ
Andrew sneered. โOf course not. Or have you forgotten, dear โbrotherโ? Youโre the one who severed that bond not too long ago.โ
Kevinโs face twisted with anger. โFine! Donโt feed me. Youโre petty as hell, you know that?โ
Andrew shrugged. โYouโre not wrong. I am petty. And Iโve got a list of people who crossed me. Also, when the sunโs up, you can lead your team wherever you want, but youโre not joining us.โ
Kevinโs eyes narrowed. โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ
Andrew gave him a cold stare. โDonโt act clueless now. Your men are nearly wiped out. Do you think Iโm gonna let you piggyback on my team after everything? You want me to carry your losses and hand you the prize? Not happening.โ
Kevin clenched his jaw. โAndrew, if youโre planning to cut us out and hog the treasure for yourself, think again. You donโt want to team up? Fine. Iโll take the last of my men and search for the entrance ourselves!โ
Andrew raised an eyebrow, then gave a mocking wave. โBe my guest.โ
Kevin stormed off, face dark with fury. He regrouped with the last three survivors of his security team. They huddled together, without fire, without food, trembling in the cold, and were clearly having a miserable time.
