Chapter 134
Finally owning his own car, Andrew no longer needed Christinaโs help. He floored the gas pedal and sped toward the South City project site, leaving Christina to watch his disappearing Porsche in frustration.
Since their breakup, Andrew had shown increasing disregard for her. His luxury car, his position as deputy chief at Jayrodale General Hospital, and his role as an executive at Wealthroller Investmentsโa position secured through billionaire Marvinโall combined to create an impression as formidable as her own CEO status at Stevens Corporation.
โDid I really misjudge him?โ Christina wondered, her feelings conflicted. She quickly dismissed the thought, convincing herself Andrew's success was built on others' efforts. Such a man, she decided, could never be worthy of Christina Stevens. She desired someone who could genuinely impress her with genuine talent and ability, not someone coasting on the achievements of others.
Christina and Andrew arrived at the South City project site separately. Leroy and Irene's eyes widened in disbelief when Andrew emerged from his Porsche.
โWhere did this loser get the money for such a luxury car?โ Leroy asked, his envy palpable. Irene, though feeling a pang of jealousy, scoffed. โIt canโt be his. I bet itโs rented or borrowed.โ Leroy readily agreed. โExactly! No way a guy like him could afford a Porsche. Thatโs the ultimate status symbolโway out of his league.โ
โMom, Leroy, has Mr. Huxley from the materials company arrived?โ Christina asked, approaching them.
โThey just arrived and are having tea inside, waiting for you,โ Irene replied.
โAlright, letโs go in then,โ Christina said.
Leroy blocked Andrewโs path. โChristie, we can handle the meeting with Mr. Huxley ourselves. Why does he need to be here?โ
Christina replied, โDonโt be ridiculous. He represents Wealthroller Investments now. Without him, we canโt close the deal.โ
Leroy reluctantly moved aside, warning, โAndrew, just so you know, Christieโs meeting with Mr. Conan Huxley, the executive of Thrive Enterprise. Donโt embarrass her.โ
Andrew gave Leroy a dismissive glance. โThe only one embarrassing Ms. Stevens is you, her dependent brother.โ
Leroyโs face flushed crimson, and he exploded. โWhat did you just call me? Say it again if you dare!โ
Irene placed her hands on her hips. โAndrew, what gives you the right to talk about Leroy like that?โ
Andrew smirked. โAm I wrong? Ms. Stevens is the sole support of Stevens Corporation. What have either of you done to help? Whether itโs you, a vain and self-absorbed mother, or this freeloading brother of hers, none of you contribute anything.โ
Irene and Leroy were furious but speechless, their wounded pride acknowledging the truth. Stevens Corporation truly depended entirely on Christina, while they merely benefited from her success.
โChristie, are you hearing this?โ Irene wailed dramatically. โHeโs making it sound like weโre nothing but a burden to you! Havenโt we helped you at all?โ
Christina sighed wearily. โMom, Mr. Huxley and his people are waiting inside. Could you and Leroy please stop making a scene?โ She then turned to Andrew with an icy stare. โMr. Lloyd, theyโre my mother and brother. Whatever their faults, this is a family matter, so please stay out of it.โ
