Chapter 250: Lots of Dirty Tricks
โWhat?โ Manuel was surprised.
โSomething happened to my father. Someone at the company may be involved. I donโt want to alert the enemy, so I have to do this discreetly,โ Hannah explained.
โHow do you know Iโm a hacker?โ Manuel asked.
Hannah was stunned. She hadnโt known until recently. How could she explain?
โOscar told you?โ Manuelโs voice conveyed skepticism.
โYes,โ she replied.
โJesus! He tells you everything,โ Manuel chuckled. He was teasing her.
โCan you help me?โ Hannah returned to the matter at hand.
โSure. What do you need? Which department?โ
โIโll text you.โ
โOK.โ
Hannah hung up and texted Manuel.
โIโll get back to you in two hours,โ Manuel replied.
Hannah was amazed. Was Manuel exceptionally skilled, or was Cooper Groupโs anti-theft system laughably weak? She pushed the thought aside; she had more pressing matters.
She refocused on the case. Another hundred million dollarsโwhere did it come from? What had the other party gained from such an exorbitantly priced private contract?
Hannah felt overwhelmed, a mental block hindering her progress.
A knock came at the door. She took a deep breath and saw Rose.
โMs. Hannah, youโre wanted in the boardroom,โ Rose said respectfully.
Hannah pursed her lips, impatience evident. โDo you want me to decline?โ Rose also sensed the meetingโs dubious nature and doubted Hannahโs ability to handle it, especially since the Chairman had been absent.
โNo,โ Hannah said, rising. She would observe and react accordingly. She wasnโt intimidated.
She hurried to the boardroom with Jimmy and Rose, but Jimmy waited outside; it concerned company secrets.
Hannah was shocked. Lorie was there, brazenly seated in the chairmanโs chair. This was unexpectedโa home confrontation escalating to the office.
โOh, Hannah, youโre here! Now that your fatherโs absent, youโll speak for him. Miguelโs situation significantly impacts Cooper Group, so weโll dismiss him as chairman, and Roger will take his place,โ Lorie declared, leaving no room for debate.
โGrandma, weโre in the office, not at home,โ Hannah responded calmly, controlling her anger.
โEnough! Youโre the elder; we respect and tolerate you. But your unreasonable behavior here is unacceptable. Even if you disregard your own dignity, we younger generations still have ours. Stop making this difficult.โ
โWhat are you talking about? How dare you?โ Lorie fumed. โHannah, Iโm representing Cooper Group. Watch your tone and remember your place!โ
โGrandma, youโve never been involved in business. What makes you think you can manage a hundred-billion-dollar company?โ Hannah asked softly.
โMy sonโs in trouble; as the only elder, Iโm taking charge.โ
โSo, my attempts at a peaceful resolution at home were futile?โ Hannah sighed, feeling helpless.
โHannah, itโs settledโฆโ
โNO!โ Hannah interrupted forcefully.
Lorieโs expression soured. Sheโd anticipated this, believing Hannah wouldn't uncover her motiveโnot to install Roger, but to discredit Hannah and Miguel. Miguelโs absence, however, thwarted her plan to condemn them jointly for ingratitude. Ultimately, it didn't matter; Hannahโs behavior reflected poorly on Miguel.
โMy fatherโs position is secured by his shares. No one can replace him without his consentโnot even you, Grandma,โ Hannah stated firmly.
Lorie stared, then collapsed, fainting before the senior managers. It appeared the shock of Hannahโs words overwhelmed her.
Roger cried out, โMom! Mom! Are you okay?โ But Lorie remained still.
โCall 911!โ Roger shouted.
Chaos erupted. Roger berated Hannah: โHannah, look what youโve done! Sheโs your grandma! You humiliated her! I wonโt forgive you if anything happens to her!โ
Hannah was stunned. Lorieโs actions were a calculated maneuver. Rejected at home, sheโd pursued her agenda despite knowing the office outcome. Hannah regretted her rashness.
Coldly, Hannah watched Roger carry Lorie out. The others followed, but she remained. Her presence was irrelevant.
Rose urged, โMs. Hannah, shouldnโt you check on your grandmother?โ
โNo need,โ Hannah replied impassively. โShe wonโt die.โ
Rose was speechless. Lorie had overstepped, interfering with company matters and attempting a chairmanโs ouster. Yet, she was Hannah's grandmother. Rose was torn.
