Chapter 250: Lots of Dirty Tricks

โ€œWhat?โ€ Manuel was surprised.

โ€œSomething happened to my father. Someone at the company may be involved. I donโ€™t want to alert the enemy, so I have to do this discreetly,โ€ Hannah explained.

โ€œHow do you know Iโ€™m a hacker?โ€ Manuel asked.

Hannah was stunned. She hadnโ€™t known until recently. How could she explain?

โ€œOscar told you?โ€ Manuelโ€™s voice conveyed skepticism.

โ€œYes,โ€ she replied.

โ€œJesus! He tells you everything,โ€ Manuel chuckled. He was teasing her.

โ€œCan you help me?โ€ Hannah returned to the matter at hand.

โ€œSure. What do you need? Which department?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll text you.โ€

โ€œOK.โ€

Hannah hung up and texted Manuel.

โ€œIโ€™ll get back to you in two hours,โ€ Manuel replied.

Hannah was amazed. Was Manuel exceptionally skilled, or was Cooper Groupโ€™s anti-theft system laughably weak? She pushed the thought aside; she had more pressing matters.

She refocused on the case. Another hundred million dollarsโ€”where did it come from? What had the other party gained from such an exorbitantly priced private contract?

Hannah felt overwhelmed, a mental block hindering her progress.

A knock came at the door. She took a deep breath and saw Rose.

โ€œMs. Hannah, youโ€™re wanted in the boardroom,โ€ Rose said respectfully.

Hannah pursed her lips, impatience evident. โ€œDo you want me to decline?โ€ Rose also sensed the meetingโ€™s dubious nature and doubted Hannahโ€™s ability to handle it, especially since the Chairman had been absent.

โ€œNo,โ€ Hannah said, rising. She would observe and react accordingly. She wasnโ€™t intimidated.

She hurried to the boardroom with Jimmy and Rose, but Jimmy waited outside; it concerned company secrets.

Hannah was shocked. Lorie was there, brazenly seated in the chairmanโ€™s chair. This was unexpectedโ€”a home confrontation escalating to the office.

โ€œOh, Hannah, youโ€™re here! Now that your fatherโ€™s absent, youโ€™ll speak for him. Miguelโ€™s situation significantly impacts Cooper Group, so weโ€™ll dismiss him as chairman, and Roger will take his place,โ€ Lorie declared, leaving no room for debate.

โ€œGrandma, weโ€™re in the office, not at home,โ€ Hannah responded calmly, controlling her anger.

โ€œEnough! Youโ€™re the elder; we respect and tolerate you. But your unreasonable behavior here is unacceptable. Even if you disregard your own dignity, we younger generations still have ours. Stop making this difficult.โ€

โ€œWhat are you talking about? How dare you?โ€ Lorie fumed. โ€œHannah, Iโ€™m representing Cooper Group. Watch your tone and remember your place!โ€

โ€œGrandma, youโ€™ve never been involved in business. What makes you think you can manage a hundred-billion-dollar company?โ€ Hannah asked softly.

โ€œMy sonโ€™s in trouble; as the only elder, Iโ€™m taking charge.โ€

โ€œSo, my attempts at a peaceful resolution at home were futile?โ€ Hannah sighed, feeling helpless.

โ€œHannah, itโ€™s settledโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNO!โ€ Hannah interrupted forcefully.

Lorieโ€™s expression soured. Sheโ€™d anticipated this, believing Hannah wouldn't uncover her motiveโ€”not to install Roger, but to discredit Hannah and Miguel. Miguelโ€™s absence, however, thwarted her plan to condemn them jointly for ingratitude. Ultimately, it didn't matter; Hannahโ€™s behavior reflected poorly on Miguel.

โ€œMy fatherโ€™s position is secured by his shares. No one can replace him without his consentโ€”not even you, Grandma,โ€ Hannah stated firmly.

Lorie stared, then collapsed, fainting before the senior managers. It appeared the shock of Hannahโ€™s words overwhelmed her.

Roger cried out, โ€œMom! Mom! Are you okay?โ€ But Lorie remained still.

โ€œCall 911!โ€ Roger shouted.

Chaos erupted. Roger berated Hannah: โ€œHannah, look what youโ€™ve done! Sheโ€™s your grandma! You humiliated her! I wonโ€™t forgive you if anything happens to her!โ€

Hannah was stunned. Lorieโ€™s actions were a calculated maneuver. Rejected at home, sheโ€™d pursued her agenda despite knowing the office outcome. Hannah regretted her rashness.

Coldly, Hannah watched Roger carry Lorie out. The others followed, but she remained. Her presence was irrelevant.

Rose urged, โ€œMs. Hannah, shouldnโ€™t you check on your grandmother?โ€

โ€œNo need,โ€ Hannah replied impassively. โ€œShe wonโ€™t die.โ€

Rose was speechless. Lorie had overstepped, interfering with company matters and attempting a chairmanโ€™s ouster. Yet, she was Hannah's grandmother. Rose was torn.
