Chapter 190: The Accident (1) Hannah, You're in Love with Me!

Hannah regretted asking Oscar if he'd called back. She hadn't truly cared about his reply, yet the question lingered, a source of unexpected remorse. She hung up. Oscar didn't call again; the plane would have already departed.

The air stewardess watched him politely. Theodore, seated beside Oscar, had overheard their conversation.

"Is she jealous?" Theodore asked.

"Any woman would be," Oscar replied calmly, "if she really cares."

Theodore privately thought Oscar was flattering himself. He seemed more popular with women since marrying Hannah.

"Did Janet leave?" Oscar asked.

"Yep," Theodore nodded. "Her family took her back to the capital. I bet she'll have a rough time."

"Did she seek help from Thomas?"

"Janet wouldn't ask Thomas for help," Theodore said. "But didn't she call you?"

"She did, but I didn't answer," Oscar admitted.

"That's so you!" Theodore chuckled, clearly expecting as much.

Oscar cared for no other woman since meeting Hannah.

"When you reach the capital, tell Jimmy to keep Hannah safe," Oscar instructed.

"OK," Theodore replied.

"Janet doesn't seem like someone who'll take it lying down," Oscar mused.

"But she wouldn't dare mess with you," Theodore stated frankly.

Oscar remained silent, unwilling to test Hannah's reaction.

It was eight o'clock. Hannah finished her work. The Light Building reopened in three days. She'd delegated tasks but still had much to do personally, including live commerce sales. She had a meeting with Little Bunny at ten the next morning to discuss details.

Stretching, she told Jimmy, "Let's call it a day." They left the office together.

Waiting for the elevator, Hannah began, "Oscar left Kensbury today."

"Yes, Mr. Wells called; he wants me to take care of you," Jimmy replied.

"Where did he go?" Hannah asked.

"I have no idea," Jimmy answered. "Mr. Wells doesn't share his whereabouts."

Hannah found this reasonable.

"Mrs. Wells, you can ask Mr. Wells directly," Jimmy suggested.

"No need," Hannah smiled, knowing she'd be eating her words. She'd refused to hear his location earlier.

In the car, Hannah relaxed, leaning back and enjoying the view. Her phone rang. A subtle smile touched her lips as she answered.

"Hey, Oscar," she said.

"You miss me?" His voice was magnetic, yet arrogant.

"Who told you that?"

"Jimmy," Oscar admitted. "He said you wanted to know where I'd been."

Hannah glared at Jimmy. When had he told Oscar? He was a loyal employee, yet this felt like a betrayal.

"Where have you been?" Hannah asked.

"The capital," Oscar replied.

Hannah smiled, assuming he'd gone after Janet.

"Are you jealous?" Oscar asked cheerfully.

"Nope."

"Come on, I know you are."

"Don't be ridiculous," Hannah retorted. "You could have told me beforehand if you couldn't bear to see what I did to Janet. We're partners, and I'd have humored you. I wouldn't have given you the cold shoulder."

Oscar chuckled. Hannah was speechless; she didn't find it funny.

"Hannah, you're in love with me."

She was stunned. He should stop flattering himself!

"Otherwise, why are you jealous?"

"I told you, I'm not," she insisted.

"Then are you happy if I told you I'm with Janet now?" Oscar asked bluntly.

Hannah was shocked and hurt. She knew it was deliberate, but the words still stung. She bit her lip, a sudden wave of panic washing over her.

She couldn't believe she'd fallen for another man so soon after Charles. Yet, her heart leaped whenever she thought of Oscar.

"Watch out, Mrs. Wells!" Jimmy shouted.

Hannah, lost in thought, reacted as a car sped toward them. This accident differed from the last; this time, the car seemed to be waiting, emerging unexpectedly from a dark alley as they approached, leaving them no time to react.

A deafening crash echoed. Hannah's phone flew from her hand. She slammed against the front seat, the world blurring. She struggled to stay conscious, her vision swimming.

She saw Jimmy, bleeding profusely, get out of the wrecked car and begin fighting the other driver.

Fighting to stay awake, Hannah wondered if Charles was behind this. She knew she was in mortal danger. Survival was paramount; she needed to escape. She reached for the door and managed to open it.

Then, someone struck her neck. Pain exploded before she could see their face. She fought to remain conscious, whispering a plea to live. She wouldn't die until Charles and those who wronged her paid.

Oscar's face flashed in her mind. He'd saved her once, risking his life. She couldn't let him down. The thought of his disappointment spurred her to cling to life.
