Chapter 1110: Collaborating with Queen Carol
"Stop right there!" Queen Carol commanded, causing Oscar to freeze. He clenched his fists, preparing for a confrontation. Then, another stern voice cut through the air: "Doyle, you stop right there!" Oscar breathed a sigh of relief; the command wasn't directed at him.
Presumably, Doyle was defying Carol, hence her anger. Oscar remained calm, discreetly withdrawing as the heated argument between Carol and Doyle escalated.
"I'll handle Besse myself," Doyle said. "If you insist on my doing it in front of you, I can't."
"You can't, or is it that you want to threaten Besse?" Carol countered coldly. "I merely want to see how you'll convince her to let you marry another woman!"
"Another woman? You brought her into my life! You brought Hannah to me! Mother, can't you stop being so selfish? You use people and discard them like trash. Don't you think your behavior is disgusting...?"
A sharp slap echoed as Carol struck Doyle.
"It's true I brought Hannah to you. But don't forget, if not for me, she would have died long ago! To her, I'm her savior. She owes me everything! She's enjoyed glory and wealth these past few years!"
"Yes, she owes you for saving her life. But did she ask for your help? What if she didn't want to live? Saving her was pointless!"
"Doyle!" Her voice trembled with rage.
In all these years, Doyle had never openly rebelled, except nowโover Hannah.
"This is my personal matter; I don't want your interference," Doyle declared, and left.
"You think you can just walk away?"
Guards emerged, blocking his path.
"I allowed you back today, but don't think I'll let you leave! From now on, without my permission, you're not allowed to leave the palace. You can't see Hannah. Live your life with Besse."
"What if I don't agree?!"
"Whether you agree or not, bring the prince back to Besse's room!" Carol commanded, turning to leave.
As she turned, Doyle drew a black pistol and aimed it at her.
"For a woman, are you going to kill me?!"
Carol showed no fear, only wrath.
"I won't kill you. You raised me; I can't kill you. But I will kill myself!"
Doyle aimed the pistol at his head.
Carol glared at him.
"If you try to confine me, I'll die right here."
"Are you daring enough?"
"As my mother, you should know me better than anyone! From childhood to now, I've always been clear about what I want. I'll never compromise!"
Doyle shot himself in the leg. The gunshot startled the palace. Guards rushed to the scene. Oscar, swept along with the crowd, observed the confrontation.
Carol looked at Doyle's injured leg and the pistol, now aimed at his temple again.
"I'll count to three. If you don't let me leave, I'll die!"
Carol, threatened, trembled with fury.
"One, two..."
"Get lost!" Carol roared.
Doyle eyed her warily. With a single glance, Carol signaled the soldiers to let him pass.
"I'm sorry," Doyle mumbled, and left without looking back.
Carol vented her fury on the remaining guards, shouting, "Get out of here!"
Everyone fled, except Oscar. Initially, he believed only Besse, abandoned by Doyle, would be an ally. Now, he saw a possibility of an agreement with Queen Carol.
Carol clearly preferred Doyle with Besse. Doyle's defiance had only enraged her further.
"I said get out ofโ"
"Her Majesty, long time no see." A familiar voice startled Carol. She recognized Oscar.
"Commander of Northfield?"
"It is I, Oscar."
"How did you get into the palace?"
"I used... unconventional methods."
"What is your purpose?" Carol asked cautiously.
"To find Hannah."
Carol was surprised.
"She's the woman you mentioned arguing with Doyle," Oscar clarified.
"Do you know Hannah?"
"Hannah is my ex-wife."
"What?!" Even Carol was shocked.
"Had you paid attention to my affairs, you'd know I've had two wives; Hannah was my first."
"Hannah is your ex-wife?" Carol still couldn't believe it.
"And from what I know, Hannah doesn't want to be with Doyle either. He's forcing her."
This enraged Carol further. Her son had abandoned his childhood sweetheart, Besse, for a woman who didn't love him.
She already knew of Hannah's feelings. After Besse awoke from her coma, Hannah admitted she knew Besse and intended to leave after the wedding. No one expected Doyle to fall for Hannah, proposing a divorce from Besse so soon after their marriage. Today was meant to be a reconciliation; instead, it ended in further separation.
