Listen to this chapter:

After a three-hour drive, everyone piled out of their vehicles beside a small cruise ship.

Dallas, the director, yelled into his loudspeaker, "Time to board the boat and leave all your phones and gadgets behind. Aren't they coming with you?"

Evangeline, traveling solo, held out her phone. "No one's here with me. Can you keep my phone safe, Mr. Fowler?"

Dallas took her phone and put it in a metal box, then asked a staff member for a welding tool. He had the box welded shut on the spot.

"Don't worry," he grinned at Evangeline. "It's safe. We'll open it after the shoot." This was to reassure the guests and protect the production team. If any star's secrets leaked while they were off the grid, blame would fall on the TV crew. Locking up the phones was a win-win.

Evangeline gave Dallas a thumbs-up. Samson tossed his phone to Dallas, saying, "Make sure mine's locked up tight." Meghan handed over her phone, batting her lashes. "Put mine with Sam's. Save a box." The other three guests followed suit, unwilling to risk their secrets being discovered by friends, family, managers, or assistants.

After Dallas secured all the phones, each person's name was written on their box. Then, the group—six celebrities and the camera crew—set sail, leaving behind a group of waving managers and assistants.

The boat traveled for five hours before reaching a dense jungle with bushes as tall as basketball hoops on stilts. They docked and disembarked onto a grassy area. Everyone stared at the surroundings in disbelief.

"This place is a mess," Travis groaned, wrinkling his nose. "Are we staying here for a whole week?" Jolene's jaw dropped. "You mean we're actually doing this survival thing for real? It's like the moon, but with trees?" Meghan and Samson weren't impressed either. Kendrick remained silent, but his displeasure was obvious. Evangeline, however, was already assessing the area for survival tips.

Dallas chuckled at their complaints. "The contract clearly stated a seven-day survival challenge in an undeveloped old-growth forest. I wasn't joking. However, since none of you have wilderness survival experience, we've provided some farm animals for you to hunt for food. Enjoy!"

"Eww, like, dead or alive?" Meghan asked, cluelessly.

Dallas replied, "Alive. Dead animals would spoil quickly."

Meghan was shocked. "Alive? We have to kill them ourselves? That's cruel. I can't do it."

Evangeline quipped, "Says the girl with the crocodile skin bag. How's that any different?"

Meghan's face flushed red. Although Evangeline had been contracted to target Meghan to evoke sympathy from viewers, Meghan felt it could have been done differently. "It's fake," she stammered. "Faux croc."

Evangeline smirked. "Really? Last I checked, that brand was known for real crocodile. Are they selling fakes now?"

Meghan tried to explain, but Evangeline interrupted, turning to the camera. "Anyone from the bag company watching? You have some explaining to do. Selling faux as real is unacceptable."

Meghan was stressed. She was the face of the brand, and any negative publicity could cost her dearly.

The livestream chat exploded. Comments included:

  • "Did y'all see that Meghan's faking it! She's the face of that bag brand. She's lying!"
  • "What a show! She carries a crocodile skin bag, yet gets upset about animals getting hurt?"
  • "Stop slandering Meghan. Her endorsements are arranged by her company."
  • "Meghan is kind, but Evangeline is targeting her. I pity her."
  • "Can Evangeline disappear? She's always bullying Meghan!"
  • "Evangeline is deliberately targeting Meghan. Don't be misled!"

The chat was filled with accusations of Meghan being two-faced and defenses of Meghan against Evangeline's meanness.

Samson was annoyed. "Why are you always on Meghan's case? What did she do to make you hate her so much?"

Evangeline snorted. "Please, you know why she bothers me."

Samson became angry, but Meghan whispered, "Chill, Sam. Maybe Evangeline's just having a bad day. If picking on me makes her happy, let her be." Samson sighed. "You're too nice, Meghan."

Evangeline pretended to vomit. "Save me from that fake niceness."

This angered Meghan, who glared at Evangeline. Samson was furious and shook his finger at Evangeline, but she threatened, "If you point that finger at me again, I might just snap it." Samson backed off.

More comments flooded in:

  • "Evangeline's got some serious attitude!"
  • "How pitiful! Why is someone like that famous?"
  • "How could she diss Samson like that? She's crossed the line!"
  • "I'm done with Evangeline!"

Dallas intervened. "Knock it off. You have to stick together for a week. It's getting dark, and you need to prepare dinner."

"Can't we stay on the cruise ship?" Jolene asked.

Dallas shook his head. "No. Not until the shoot is over."

They were not pleased with the news. Meghan suggested, "Let's get organized. We don't want to go to bed hungry or without a tent."

Everyone agreed to team up.

"I'm in," Samson said.

"Count me in," Jolene added.

"Let's team up," Travis agreed.

Kendrick and Travis both stated they didn't want to be on a team with Evangeline. No one wanted to be her next target, or risk being dragged into any drama.

Samson declared, "I've got Meghan's back. She's on my team."

Comments included:

  • "LOL Evangeline's getting a taste of her own medicine. Nobody wants to hang with her."
  • "Totally, she was mean to Meghan and Samson. Now she's all alone!"
  • "People are backing those who won't team up with Evangeline."

Meghan, happy no one wanted to be with Evangeline, suggested, "Evangeline, want to partner up? We can make two teams—one to find a place to sleep, and the other to get food. You, me, and Samson can search for a spot, and the others can get food."

Kendrick agreed. Everyone else nodded. Comments praised Meghan's kindness.

Evangeline refused, saying, "I don't need anyone slowing me down. I'll do better alone." She noted that her gear alone was superior to that of the other five combined and refused to share.

Samson snapped at Evangeline, "Uncool, Meghan's trying to be nice, and you're calling us dead weight? Fine! Good luck handling everything alone. Don't come begging for help."

Evangeline smirked. "You might be the ones needing my help."

Samson retorted, "Yeah, right!"

Meghan pleaded with Evangeline, but she brushed her off. Jolene offered to team up with Evangeline for food, but Samson quickly interjected, "No one's helping her tonight." No one wanted to risk looking bad online. Evangeline considered Jolene's offer, acknowledging her potential to lose her temper again. Before she could answer, Samson reiterated that no one would help her.
