Chapter: The Topic of Shares
Elua’s eyes widened in shock at the news, her voice rising involuntarily. Realizing her reaction, she fell silent. I knew exactly what excited her. Not long ago, she dreamed of joining Lumadlo, fantasizing about working alongside her favorite designer. Now, Lumadlo’s founder was my junior—that path was closed to her.
Thad had mentioned Elsa's desire to join Lumička to Levi. Levi immediately nodded. “Yes, I heard you admired Lunatilo and wanted to work under our top designer.” He gave a wicked smile. “But I’m afraid that’s no longer possible. Our designers require not only genius-level talent but also a warm and gentle personality. And you… you possess neither.”
Elsa’s face paled, but Levi continued. Elsa was about to collapse when Jack intervened, steadying her. I couldn’t resist a remark. “How dramatic, nearly fainting just sitting on the couch.”
Elsa bit her lip, grievance etched on her face. Tears welled, but didn't fall. She looked pitiful. Distressed, Jack shouted, “Enough!” He turned his frustration on me. “Elsa’s health isn’t good. Why are you bringing these people here to upset her? You and this so-called junior of yours—this relationship you two have! I really underestimated you. You can get so many men to help you. You're impressive.”
My father's voice cut through the strained atmosphere. “Jack,” he said, bringing his son back to his senses. Yet, Jack's resentment toward me lingered. He saw me as his enemy. Levi, suppressing his anger, clenched his fists. If my parents weren't present, he likely would have punched Jack. He scoffed. “The mind of someone who sees everything with suspicion is… tame.” He composed himself, addressing my parents. “Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Jane has always been a role model for me in university. It’s an honor to work with her.”
Ex, who had been silent, spoke. “I only helped Jane because of her abilities. Mr. and Mrs. Brown, please trust her.” His sincerity was moving, even to me. My parents, always supportive, nodded. My mother’s eyes welled with tears. “Jae, you’ve grown up, and you’re handling things on your own.”
I squeezed her hand. “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.” My focus wasn't just business growth; I was determined to protect Brown Group and those I loved. I wouldn't let anyone—neither Jeremiah nor Elsa—tear my family apart again.
Just as the mood softened, Jack spoke. “Since your future is limitless, I suppose you’ll have no more connection to Brown Group. Hand over the shares to Elsa. She can at least help manage the company.” Even then, he sought advantages for her.
“Why should I?” I asked.
