Chapter 257: Certainly Not a Lie
Chelsea realized that her inadvertently spoken words had hurt Seiren, so she gently reassured, “Seiren, don’t worry. No one here would dare treat you like that.”
Seiren quickly waved her hands. “No, no, no, Ms. Yardley, I wasn’t trying to ask you for any proof. All I hope is that you can maintain the attitude you’ve had so far. As for the rest, I dare not presume too much.”
Chelsea gave a slight smile. “You don’t need to be so humble. Once you’re here, you’re part of my family. There’s no need for you to feel bound by any other rules or restrictions.”
Seiren’s eyes filled with shock and disbelief. She was merely a servant Chelsea hired. They had no familial ties, no blood relation, so why was Chelsea treating her so well?
Chelsea didn’t elaborate much; she simply said, “Seiren, you might not believe me now, but as time goes by and we spend more time together, you’ll realize that what I just said was certainly no lie.”
Seeing Seiren still wearing a clueless expression, Chelsea couldn’t help but let out a small, quiet chuckle. She was well aware that Seiren was a person of unwavering loyalty. Moreover, she possessed a sound moral compass, distinguishing right from wrong. Even in critical moments, she would not bow down to evil forces out of fear.
Considering that Caleb had only a few reliable people around him right now, it was crucial to gradually cultivate more. That was why she would try her best to keep Seiren close, slowly increasing the support for Caleb. Of course, a part of the reason was that she genuinely had a soft spot for Seiren.
Though the other members of the Yardley family treated her with respect on the surface, in their hearts, they were definitely dissatisfied with her. Only around someone as guileless as Seiren could she let her guard down.
The pasta was cooked just right, and the sauce was a delightful treat to the palate, yet Casey couldn’t taste anything.
Did what Chelsea just said about “once you’re here, you’re part of my family” include her as well? That can’t be possible… She had once bullied Caleb, so how could Chelsea possibly consider her as one of her own?
Casey subtly let out a sigh, feeling like she was being left out. She turned to Caleb and said, “Caleb, I need to talk to you. After we finish eating, come find me.”
Caleb gave her a nonchalant glance, his expression seeming to say, “I’m not stupid. Why would I go?”
Fine, if he doesn’t want to, then he doesn’t have to. Otherwise, it would seem like I’m begging him.
Casey wolfed down her food, hoping to finish the meal as quickly as possible so she could retreat to the tranquility of her room. Chelsea, however, didn’t give her the chance. “Ms. Rose, what do you want with Caleb? There are no outsiders here, so you can speak your mind. If there’s any trouble, I’m here to help.”
Casey hesitated, unwilling to spit out the truth. Chelsea’s face instantly turned cold. “Casey, you need to understand that you’re in my territory now. If you don’t listen to me, I’ll send you back to your mother to be disciplined!”
Casey’s heart skipped a beat before she finally pulled out her mobile phone and showed them Jesse’s newest post. “Jesse posted this today. In addition, he also mentioned to the media that he was renting the house himself. Normally, nothing ever went wrong. However, the house caught fire just today, right after his guest had left.”
Jesse didn’t reveal the true identity of the “guest,” thereby leaving room for the netizens to speculate. They would instinctively piece together the identity of the “guest” based on the harsh criticisms online, then portray Jesse as a complete victim, acting on his behalf to punish the vicious arsonist.
