Listen to this chapter:

Casey wanted to confront Caleb about the ten times he had flogged her at the Yardley residence. She also wanted to question him about his sudden act of kindness in burying the tuxedo cat. But with so many questions swirling in her heart, she found herself unable to voice even one. And so, they remained in silence until Caleb broke it.

“Do your wounds hurt?”

Casey hadn’t expected him to speak and was taken aback.

“What?”

Feeling exasperated, Caleb repeated the question. “I’m asking you whether the injuries you got from the flogging still hurt.”

“Oh…”

Blinking blankly, it took a moment before Casey could comprehend what was happening. Wasn’t it he who had inflicted those wounds? How dare he ask if she was in pain!

Overwhelmed by anger, she sarcastically remarked, “Weren’t you the one who personally inflicted those ten whip lashes on me? Showing concern for me now seems a little too late, doesn’t it?”

What happened next merely infuriated her more. Caleb raised an eyebrow and cheekily retorted, “Who said anything about caring for you? What I actually want to say is that you’ll have to bear the pain either way because you brought this on yourself.”

“You…!”

Casey wanted to ask how she had brought this upon herself. It was Caleb who had bullied Jesse first; she had merely been serving as an agent of karma, inciting netizens to cyberbully him in return. Yet, upon recalling the look of disgust on Jesse’s face when he had said “throw the cat out,” she found herself unable to voice any retort. From how he dared to treat her, it was clear Jesse didn’t care about his fans’ feelings at all. A sudden wave of dissatisfaction toward her idol washed over Casey, leaving her no room to retort. She sat there, stewing in her own frustration. Her demeanor suggested she seemed to agree with what Caleb had said.

Surprised, Caleb glanced at her, then quickly averted his gaze. Regardless of how this woman was faring now, the fact that she was an offender in the past would never…

He was already in deep water, barely able to save himself, so why should he bother about others?

The car gradually came to a halt before a large mansion. Compared to the Sherman residence, the Yardley family’s mansion was notably larger and more ostentatious.

The courtyard was home to countless varieties of flora, with the occasional pleasing chirp of a bird piercing the tranquility. Outside the door, two bodyguards stood guard, with another four or five waiting inside. As soon as they spotted Chelsea’s car, they immediately bowed in greeting. “Welcome home, Ms. Yardley!”

The driver opened the car door for Chelsea. Ignoring the others, she turned toward Caleb and said, “You go in first. Someone inside will lead the way for you.”

Caleb nodded. Paying no mind to Casey, he made his way into the mansion on his own. Upon entering, Caleb was immediately met with an unexpected figure.

“Seiren, what are you doing here?”

Seiren gave a sheepish smile. “Mr. Caleb, it was Ms. Yardley who invited me here. She mentioned that working outside wasn’t safe for me, so she brought me here.”

Indeed, this was something Chelsea would do. Having grasped the situation, Caleb then asked, “What do you do here every day? Is it similar to what you did at the Quixall residence, like cleaning and such?”

Seiren responded, “Yes. I can’t manage any other kind of work that requires a lot of thinking. Only these detailed tasks come naturally to me. Even if Ms. Yardley didn’t allow me to, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from wanting to do something to help her.”

Her previous appearance was not a coincidence. When Caleb was hospitalized, she would visit him every now and then, but she never actually stepped inside his room.
