Chapter 205: Do Not Celebrate Too Soon
Upon hearing that, Joseph felt a tinge of disappointment, yet he was not ready to give up. “Mr. Levinson, could you please reconsider me? Since the matter has already blown up, Raquel will undoubtedly face countless rumors and gossip in the future. At this point, wouldn’t you agree that my marrying her would be the best outcome?”
Ivan shot him a glare. “If you hadn’t insisted on proposing to her at this moment, things wouldn’t have blown up like this!”
With a nonchalant expression, Joseph stated, “I did it for her own good. Besides, it was the maid from the Quixall family who spread the news, not me.”
He turned his accusations toward Sciren. “The photo of that kiss was leaked by her. The person who truly wanted to harm your daughter was her.”
Pointed at by Joseph, Seiren felt somewhat scared. Yet she managed to maintain a composed demeanor, bravely meeting his gaze.
Ivan turned to look at her. Isn’t she the maid Deborah is particularly fond of? I think her name is—
Raquel, overwhelmed with anger and resentment, roared as she lunged at Seiren. “Seiren, you’re dead!”
Her happy future, envied by many, was shattered because of Seiren. Despite the interference from others, she still made her way to Seiren, eager to tear the latter apart. Stretching out both hands, Raquel choked Seiren, suffocating her.
Seiren struggled as she pleaded for Caleb’s help. “Mr. Caleb… Save… Me…”
Caleb rushed over hastily, desperately prying away Raquel’s hand. However, Raquel was utterly determined. No matter who tried to stop her, she was absolutely unwilling to release her grip. Contrarily, the more others tried to pry her hand away, the tighter she clung on. In fact, she deliberately dug her nails into Seiren’s skin, causing her unbearable pain.
As Caleb truly couldn’t pry Raquel away from Seiren, he had no choice but to resort to a hand-chop, knocking out Raquel with a swift strike. Raquel lost consciousness, and her hands naturally released their grip. Her hands had only just healed a few days ago. The fact that she could muster such strength was entirely fueled by a deep-seated resentment. After the surge of impulse, she could no longer muster the strength in her hands, and they fell limply by her side.
Seiren took deep breaths, her gaze filled with gratitude as she looked at Caleb. “Thank you very much, Mr. Caleb!”
Caleb gave a dismissive wave of his hand. The situation arose because of him. If Seiren hadn’t stepped in to help him, she wouldn’t have encountered such a disaster.
Seiren cautiously glanced at him. “Mr. Caleb, are you still mad at me?”
Caleb was taken aback. “What are you referring to?”
“About… the incident where I falsely accused you…” The more she spoke, the quieter her voice became. In the end, Seiren simply couldn’t bear to look at Caleb’s expression, so she hung her head low. Considering how much he was misunderstood that day, he definitely wouldn’t—
“Oh, that? I didn’t take it to heart.” Caleb gave her a kindly smile. “I had already noticed that you were acting under duress. When you spoke up for me just now, that matter became utterly insignificant.”
Seiren stifled a sob, then roughly wiped away her tears. “Mr. Caleb, you truly are a good person!”
Caleb reined in his smile. “Don’t celebrate just yet. Your brother’s issue isn’t resolved, and after today’s incident, Raquel will certainly not let you off the hook. You’d better brace yourself in advance.”
