Revenge Forged in Prison
Chapter 143: You Can Vent On Me
Jesse struggled to break free and screamed, “Help, someone’s trying to kill me!” The doctor and nurse outside heard the screaming and hurriedly rushed over. Caleb wouldn’t let go and stared at him coldly.
“Continue with the act, Jesse,” Caleb said. “Explain yourself to me. Otherwise, don’t even think of leaving this hospital room today.”
Jesse didn’t respond. Hearing the footsteps drawing nearer, he broke into a triumphant smirk.
From the moment Caleb woke up, his aggression cemented his reputation as a violent person. Nurse Wendy rushed in. As soon as she entered the room, she saw Caleb tightly gripping Jesse’s hand. Regardless of how Jesse pleaded, Caleb wouldn’t let go.
“Let go immediately! What do you intend to do to Mr. Jesse?” she demanded.
Her delicate hands reached out, attempting to loosen Caleb’s grip. However, Caleb didn’t budge.
“This isn’t your business. Stay out of it.”
While prying Caleb’s hand away, Wendy scolded, “Ah… how can you be so ungrateful? Mr. Jesse came to visit you, yet you attacked him!”
Caleb didn’t offer an explanation. He simply gave a cold, detached smile.
“Not bad, Jesse,” Caleb said. “Even the nurses in this hospital are on your side. No wonder I lost to you five years ago.”
The smugness in Jesse’s eyes faded, replaced by an expression of innocence and panic.
“I don’t understand what you’re saying,” Jesse said. “It is fine if you vent your frustrations on me, but please don’t involve others. The nurse is innocent, Caleb. Don’t hurt her. She’s just a girl…”
Upon hearing Jesse’s words, Wendy blushed.
“Mr. Jesse, he didn’t do anything to me,” she said. “I’m just worried about you…”
Wendy exerted more force. When she found she couldn’t pry Caleb’s hands open, she used her nails to dig into his hand.
“You heard that, didn’t you?” Wendy said. “Mr. Jesse is kind-hearted, unlike you. Also, this is a hospital. If you insist on resorting to violence, then I’ll have no choice but to report to the hospital director!”
Caleb scoffed, “Go ahead, report me. I’ve been to jail once; I’m not afraid of a second visit.”
Upon hearing that he was an ex-convict, Wendy felt a jolt of fear, causing her to instinctively release her grip.
While throwing her a dismissive glance, Caleb withdrew his hand. Relief finally washed over Jesse as he couldn’t help but let out a sigh.
He lifted his wrist to take a look and found a large purple bruise covering it, one that looked quite serious.
Annoyed, he said, “I haven’t seen you for days. Do you really want to fight me the moment you wake up?”
Caleb gave him a meaningful look. “Indeed, after not seeing you for so long, you shared with me an earth-shattering secret the moment we met. You truly are an exemplary brother to me.”
For a fleeting moment, Jesse felt guilty, but he quickly defended himself, “I had no idea you were awake. You were the one eavesdropping on me. It’s not my fault.”
Wendy was fearful of Caleb and didn’t dare approach him. When she turned around, she saw her friends and colleagues arriving, and only then did she regain her courage.
“Xenia, Mr. Jenkins, who has been lying in the sickbed for nearly a month, just woke up,” Wendy said. “Mr. Jesse kindly came to see him, but he responded with violence. Just look at Mr. Jesse’s hand!”
Xenia followed her friend’s gaze, only to see a large bruise encircling Jesse’s wrist. Fury welled up within her as she gritted her teeth and exclaimed, “This is outrageous! Mr. Jesse has just recovered from a serious illness, only to be met with violence. How is he supposed to sing in the future?”
