Chapter 140: Heading Out for Disinfection

Upon noticing Chelsea’s reluctance to reveal the truth, Gianna decided not to press further. After all, which prestigious family didn’t have a bit of scandal? Perhaps this was the secret of the Yardley family. Suddenly, Gianna’s gaze turned somewhat melancholic.

It was a good thing that Caleb was transferred to a major hospital, but that meant she wouldn’t be able to visit him as often as before.

As if she had sensed Gianna’s thoughts, Chelsea joked, “The Yardley family’s hospital isn’t some forbidden territory. If everyone was too scared to step in, wouldn’t the hospital have gone out of business a long time ago?”

Gianna’s eyes lit up. “So, Ms. Yardley, are you giving me permission to see him?”

Chelsea had previously stated that no one was allowed to disturb Caleb, so Gianna had assumed that she wouldn’t be able to visit him either. At that moment, it seemed Gianna still had a chance to see Caleb in the future.

“Actually, I was hoping you could visit him more often. That way, I wouldn’t need to assign someone specifically to look after him,” Chelsea suggested.

The two exchanged a laugh, their friendship blossoming.

Five days had passed when Caleb was transferred to the Yardley family’s hospital. Miriam had sought the expertise of a renowned foreign doctor for Caleb’s treatment. However, even after half a month of therapy, there was still no sign of improvement in Caleb’s condition.

Gianna was worried about the overwhelming stress Caleb was under. Whenever she had a moment to spare, she would come over to keep him company and chat.

That day, the sound of voices suddenly drifted in from outside the hospital room. Shortly after, Norman walked in and said, “Ms. Sherman, Mr. Jesse and Raquel have arrived. They wanted to visit Mr. Jenkins, but I stopped them. They’re now waiting at the door.”

Ever since Raquel insulted Gianna at the Quixall residence, Norman’s fondness for the entire Levinson family had plummeted to an all-time low, especially toward Raquel. Every time Norman thought of her detestable face, he felt an overwhelming sense of nausea. Even their recent conversation was something he had to force himself to get through. Norman was itching to pick up a broom and throw all caution to the wind, giving Raquel a good beating to prevent her from bullying Gianna again.

Upon seeing the clear distaste etched on Norman’s face, Gianna couldn’t help but let out a small smile. “Mr. Langford, it’s not worth getting upset over such people. Let them in, will you? It’s perfect timing. I’m curious to see their current state.”

Subsequently, he opened the door and said coldly, “Come in. Ms. Sherman wishes to see you.”

Jesse entered without hesitation, with Raquel trailing behind him.

Upon seeing Caleb lying on the bed, appearing lifeless, Jesse’s eyes immediately welled up with tears. “What’s wrong with Caleb? Last time I saw him, he even brought fruit to my hospital bed. Who could have imagined that this time around, he would be the one lying motionless in a hospital bed, with so many tubes attached to him…”

As he spoke, he reached out to touch Caleb. However, with a swift movement, Gianna knocked his hand away.

Taken aback, Jesse asked, “Ms. Sherman, what are you…”

Gianna’s voice was laced with a chilling indifference. “Mr. Jesse, Caleb’s condition is quite severe. The doctor has stated that anyone who wishes to visit him must first be thoroughly sterilized to eliminate any bacteria they may carry. Only then, and even then only through clothing, may they make contact with the patient. I don’t blame you for acting impulsively. However, if you truly wish to show concern for Caleb, I would kindly ask you to disinfect yourself before entering, so as not to worsen his condition.”

Bewildered, Jesse rubbed his hands. “Ms. Sherman, I…”

Raquel couldn’t bear to watch any longer. “Gia, if you have any issues with me, feel free to confront me directly. Jesse rushed over as soon as he recovered from a major illness. How could you treat him like this?”
