Chapter 118: End Up In This State
Just one more stretch, and she could reach the awl. However, at that moment, Raquel dashed forward, kicking it away with a flourish.
“Faster! Go get it!”
She laughed heartily, her expression brimming with immense satisfaction. At last year’s gala held in the city, Gianna had walked arm-in-arm with her father like royalty.
Yet Raquel found herself in a difficult position due to her father’s company facing troubles again. She was mocked behind her back, people calling her the ugly duckling. What was even more infuriating was that Gianna, fully aware that everyone looked down on her, still had the audacity to come and invite her with such pretense.
“Raquel, Ms. Yardley just returned from abroad. Shall we go greet her together?”
That single sentence had cemented Raquel’s humiliation before the entire crowd! Back then, Raquel had swallowed her rage and forced a smile.
“You go ahead with Mr. Sherman. I’ll stay as Jesse asked me to wait here. If I wander around, he won’t be able to find me when he gets back.”
“Okay then. This is a rare opportunity. I originally wanted you to get to know her as well.”
Carrying a tinge of disappointment, Gianna left with Phillip. Watching their retreating figures, Raquel seethed with a bitterness that made her grit her teeth in frustration.
One day, I’ll make them pay.
Now, contrasting past and present, Raquel’s satisfaction peaked.
“Hahaha… Who’d have thought you’d end up in this state, Gianna?”
She turned to the gathered servants within the mansion, arms spread theatrically.
“Come and look, everyone! This here is the esteemed Ms. Gianna Sherman of the prestigious Sherman family. Remember her arrogance? Now she crawls like a dog at my feet! Isn’t this hilarious?”
The servants, long oppressed by their employers, seized the chance to laugh freely. Agnes joined in. As she laughed, her smile gradually faded away. This was a golden opportunity to bring down Raquel. She had to quickly relay this information to George and Deborah, urging them to dismiss Raquel.
Slipping away, she hurried to the study on the second floor.
“Mr. Quixall, Ms. Levinson is bullying Ms. Sherman outside, forcing her to stab her own hand with an awl!”
George shot to his feet.
“What? Something like that happened? Bring me to them!”
Agnes concealed her smile and turned to lead the way. But as she took her first step, he stopped her.
“Hold on. Do you have any idea why Raquel was bullying Gianna?”
The smile on Agnes’ face froze.
“Ms. Sherman begged Ms. Levinson to donate blood for Mr. Caleb. Ms. Levinson refused and devised some challenges to make it difficult for Ms. Sherman, hoping she would back down.”
After a moment of quiet contemplation, George sank back into his seat.
“Forget it. Raquel did nothing wrong. Gianna is no fool. If Raquel’s conditions were too excessive, she would have left.”
“But, Mr. Quixall…”
“Shut up! Know your place!”
George glared at her, showing his authority as the head of the family. Fearful, Agnes said nothing more. Deep down, she found it odd. Just a few days ago, Caleb had stolen from the Sherman family, causing quite a bit of unpleasantness between the Quixall and Sherman families. Now, Gianna came knocking, seeking help from the Quixall family. She wondered why George’s attitude had changed completely. It was as if he didn’t regard the Sherman family as important at all…
