Chapter 110: You Started This

Midway through his journey, George abruptly stopped in his tracks. Memories of Caleb’s infuriating antics in the study, combined with his recent manipulations that had made fools of both him and Deborah, flashed through his mind. “Caleb, you started this, so don’t blame me for being heartless!”

A black Bentley emerged from the garage, heading straight toward the figure standing in front. Caught off guard, Caleb was hit and sent flying a full three meters. Blood spilled from his mouth as he forced his gaze toward the car. That’s cold…

Despite the torment he endured as part of the Quixall family, he had never once considered taking their lives. Yet here was George, mercilessly mowing him down. Five years ago, George had mentioned that he’d buy him a black Bentley for his birthday. The Bentley had been bought, but it had nearly cost him his life. Darkness encroached, and Caleb couldn’t fight it any longer. He succumbed to unconsciousness.

“The patient has suffered a severe blow to the head, causing extensive internal bleeding. Who is his next of kin?” The doctor wore a serious expression. Gianna hesitated briefly before raising her hand. “I… I am…” The doctor glanced at her. “What’s your relationship with the patient?” Gianna bit her lip and replied, “I… I am his… fiancée…” The doctor nodded.

“The patient has a rare Rh-negative blood type. Currently, our blood bank is seriously low on this type. Do you know anyone around who could donate blood for him?” Gianna’s face turned pale. She had type O blood, and there was no one in her family who shared the same blood type as Caleb. Am I supposed to just stand by and watch Caleb bleed out to death? Gianna shook her head weakly. “I’ve never met someone with an Rh-negative blood type. He’s the first.”

The doctor turned to consult with the nurse, then said, “We will reach out to other hospitals to ensure the patient can receive a blood transfusion as soon as possible. Please bear with us for a while.”

Gianna was fraught with anxiety. “How long will it take to get the blood? Can he hang on until then?” The doctor replied truthfully, “It’s hard to say. Rh-negative blood is a rare blood type throughout the city, and it may not necessarily be available in other hospital’s blood banks.” Gianna sank into the chair, her rosy lips pale and colorless. If no other hospital has it, doesn’t that mean Caleb is doomed? It’s all my fault that he’s in such a perilous situation. I only managed to escape today. Would things have been different if I had convinced Dad earlier? Or if someone had taken him away sooner, could he have avoided this terrible tragedy?

Gianna unconsciously fidgeted with her fingers, her eyes dull and lifeless, devoid of any sparkle. As her phone began to ring, she hesitated for about ten seconds before finally answering. “Hello?” It was a call from Phillip. He had discovered that his daughter had lied to him. She hadn’t been out for a leisurely stroll with her best friend, as she had claimed. “Gia, your friends told me you never contacted them! Where are you right now? Did you go to see Caleb again?” Gianna didn’t respond; tears kept rolling down her cheeks. Feeling that something was amiss, Phillip couldn’t help but ask anxiously, “Gia?” He had only one daughter. If anything were to happen to her, life would lose its meaning for him.
