Cheryl received Madelyn’s call. “Cheryl, have you seen the stock market situation?” Madelyn asked.
Cheryl’s response was slow. “Not yet.”
Madelyn informed her, “Sherritt Group’s stock has surged by about four percentage points.”
“What?” Cheryl was astonished. “How could this be? Since when was Janessa that capable?”
“I find it odd myself,” Madelyn replied cheerfully. “To outsiders, it seems like Janessa’s competent management. However, we know better.”
“So, what exactly is going on?” Cheryl whispered, moving away from her father’s bedside, fearful of disturbing him.
Madelyn didn’t hesitate. “If I’m right, Janessa secretly took control of the shares.”
Cheryl was stunned. “Oh my God! How could she dare? That’s illegal!” Secretly taking control of shares is tantamount to deceiving shareholders.
“That’s exactly why I called you.” Madelyn knew this was the perfect opportunity to deal with Janessa.
Cheryl, understanding the situation, nodded. “Ms. Thornton, I understand. But what exactly do you want me to do?”
“It’s simple. We report Janessa,” Madelyn said, a faint smile on her composed face. “She knowingly broke the law; she dug her own grave. Let’s enlighten her about the law.”
“Okay, I get it!” Cheryl nodded, a surge of vengeful satisfaction rising within her. In her heart, she cursed Janessa: You despicable woman, you deserve to be damned! You’ve had your moment in the sun, all the glory. Do you still think you can monopolize the company? Hah, in your dreams! You’re capable of something as unforgivable as setting up your own father—how could the heavens forgive you? It’s time to face the consequences.
Without delay, Cheryl reported Janessa to the law enforcement agency.
The following day, at Sherritt Group, Janessa enjoyed the shareholders’ renewed appreciation due to the company’s stock market resurgence. No one knew how she’d managed it, but as long as she made them money, they had no complaints. Janessa breathed a sigh of relief; the balance was temporarily maintained. It was time to proceed with the projects; their continuation would make the stock market rebound seem legitimate. Otherwise, if her manipulation were revealed, everything would be ruined. Janessa immediately resumed work on the company projects.
However, as she left to meet clients, several white cars pulled up and parked beneath the building. Janessa was about to go around them when the occupants emerged, blocking her path.
“Hello, are you Janessa Sherritt from Sherritt Group?”
“Yes, what’s the matter?”
Cheryl emerged from one of the cars, pointing at Janessa. “Everyone, that’s her! My sister, Janessa Sherritt! She’s manipulating the stock market! Arrest her immediately!” Cheryl glared at Janessa. This time, I won't let you off the hook!
Janessa immediately understood. Filled with embarrassment and anger, she pointed at Cheryl. “Cheryl, stop making false accusations! This is the company, not a place for your reckless troublemaking!”
Cheryl laughed. “Oh, so now you care about the company? Since you took over, it’s been ruined because of your mess. How dare you speak?”
Janessa was furious, unprepared for Cheryl’s open confrontation. “That’s none of your business. Dad gave me the shares; I’m managing the company. You have no right to judge.”
A crowd gathered, surrounding Janessa, Cheryl, and the law enforcement officers.
Cheryl laughed, defying Janessa’s claim. “Janessa, you have no shame! This is a business Dad built. You’re holding a will we don’t know is real or fake, yet you claim the company is yours? Everyone knows you dismissed Caleb and me. Your aim is simply to monopolize Sherritt Group!” Cheryl’s words poured forth relentlessly. “If you insist on claiming this company, fine.
