Chapter 421: You Are The Outsider

โ€œThe doctor said Fatherโ€™s illness came on suddenly and is quite severe,โ€ Cheryl said. โ€œThey suspect a peculiar strain of flu.โ€

Madelyn scoffed. โ€œDo you really think thatโ€™s possible?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible!โ€ Cheryl exclaimed urgently. โ€œFather has always been strong and healthy, extremely disciplined with his diet. How could he fall ill with such a strange disease?โ€

Scarlet, distressed, her nose running and tears streaming, added, โ€œIsnโ€™t that so? For years, Rupert believed โ€˜health is the foundation of everything,โ€™ strictly managing our familyโ€™s health, even taking us for annual check-ups. How could someone who cherishes his health so much suddenly fall ill?โ€

Madelyn fell into deep thought. โ€œThen there might be something odd. If it wasnโ€™t a health issue, it must be unexpected circumstances. Otherwise, how could a perfectly healthy person suddenly collapse?โ€

As she spoke, Madelyn began to draw connections. Where exactly did things go wrong? Her thoughts drifted back to her previous life. Back then, her fatherโ€™s annual check-ups rarely revealed any issues. However, one day, he suddenly collapsed. His robust health had, overnight, become fragile, making him vulnerable. The circumstances were strikingly similar to Cherylโ€™s fatherโ€™s situation.

In Madelynโ€™s previous life, Regina and her daughter, Eunice, plotted against her father. Could the person plotting against Rupert also be someone close to him?

Madelynโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œMadelyn, has your father been closely associating with anyone recently?โ€

Cheryl was confused. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

Madelyn explained, โ€œSince your fatherโ€™s situation wasnโ€™t an accident, someone might have deliberately harmed him. Recall carefully who your father contacted recently.โ€

โ€œUmโ€ฆโ€ Cheryl hesitated, deep in thought. Then, โ€œIโ€™ve got it, itโ€™s Janessa!โ€

Madelyn feigned a cough. โ€œCheryl, I know you despise Janessa, and I do too. But I heard your father kicked her out of the house, hasnโ€™t he? Try to be a bit more rational.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t let your dislike for Janessa cloud your judgment. Blaming her too quickly might make you overlook the real culprit.โ€

But Cheryl remained adamant. โ€œNo, Ms. Thornton, trust me, my judgment is infallible.โ€

โ€œDo you have any proof?โ€ Madelyn retorted.

Cheryl shook her head. โ€œEvidence? No. But somethingโ€™s fishy. I remember that day. I was in the study with Father, discussing business, when Janessa suddenly returned homeโ€ฆโ€

Cheryl recalled that day. She and her father were engrossed in a discussion when Janessa unexpectedly burst through the door. โ€œDad, Cheryl.โ€

โ€œWhy are you here?โ€

As soon as Janessa entered, she greeted them. Unwelcoming glances made it clear her presence wasn't appreciated. Cheryl immediately called for the housekeeper. โ€œDidnโ€™t I make it clear Janessa isnโ€™t welcome? Why are you still standing there? Escort her out!โ€

Rupert coldly scoffed. โ€œYouโ€™re no longer part of the Sherritt family. Donโ€™t bother coming back.โ€

To their surprise, Janessa laughed. โ€œDad, Madelyn, Iโ€™ve barely been here three minutes and youโ€™re already eager to send me away. Thatโ€™s not how our family treats guests, is it?โ€

Cheryl scoffed. โ€œYou said it yourself. Our hospitality is reserved for guests, and youโ€™re not one.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s been a few days, Cheryl. Youโ€™ve certainly become more articulate,โ€ Janessa said with a detached smile. She wasn't angry; sheโ€™d expected an unwelcome reception. She spoke directly. โ€œI wonโ€™t linger. I wanted to check on Dad, and thereโ€™s something I need to discuss with him.โ€

Cheryl retorted, โ€œGive it a rest! I can see right through you. Youโ€™re definitely up to no good!โ€

Rupert, indifferent, said, โ€œThereโ€™s nothing more to discuss. Show her out.โ€

โ€œSure, Dad.โ€

Janessa let out a cold laugh, ignoring Cheryl, focusing on Rupert. โ€œDad, what I need to discuss is of utmost importance. It concerns our company. Are you sure you wonโ€™t listen? I can leave, but if the company ends up in ruins, donโ€™t blame me.โ€

Cheryl defiantly walked away. Immediately, Rupert furrowed his brows. โ€œWait!โ€

โ€œSince weโ€™re already here, letโ€™s clear things up before we leave.โ€

A smug smile appeared on Janessaโ€™s lips. She knew his primary concern was always the company. He would keep her around. This scenario perfectly exemplified her surmise.

Janessa turned, offering a composed smile. โ€œDad, this involves confidential company information. I can share it, but I suggest we not discuss it in the presence of outsiders.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€

Cheryl, listening, realized the โ€œoutsiderโ€ was herself. She instantly lost her temper. โ€œLetโ€™s get one thing straight, Janessa. This is my house. Dad and I manage the company, not you. Youโ€™re the outsider here!โ€

This despicable woman canโ€™t distinguish between guest and host properly?

Janessa remained casual. โ€œSure, whatever you say. But let me be clear, you canโ€™t listen to this.โ€

Cheryl was livid, wishing she could strangle Janessa.

Rupert, exasperated, blurted, โ€œEnough already! Will this ever end?โ€
