Chapter 33: There Was Still a Way to Deal With Her

Although she was pale, Madelyn managed to maintain an air of nonchalance.

โ€œJanessa, donโ€™t worry. I couldnโ€™t care less about what these people say. Theyโ€™re nothing more than keyboard warriors, daring only to speak from behind the safety of their screens. On the internet, theyโ€™re like rabid dogs, ready to attack whoeverโ€™s in trouble. But if they enjoy biting so much, why not let them!โ€

After Madelyn finished speaking, she turned to look at Janessa with a smile. She appeared utterly carefree and untroubled.

Seeing her laugh so freely, Janessa felt somewhat uncomfortable.

Janessa tentatively asked, โ€œMadelyn, are you really not scared? Donโ€™t try to act tough, okay?โ€

Madelyn still wore a smile. โ€œOf course, when have I ever lied to you? Besides, if a dog bites me, do you expect me to bite back? I find it rather disgusting, donโ€™t you agree?โ€

Upon hearing these words, the expression on Janessaโ€™s face shifted subtly, reflecting her discomfort. However, she could only respond with a forced laugh. โ€œYes, indeed.โ€

Then, Janessa quickly changed the subject. โ€œBy the way, Madelyn, are you confident about this thesis writing task? Do you need my help? I still have some leftover materials from the last time I wrote a thesis.โ€

Upon hearing this, Madelyn sneered inwardly. Help from her? Sheโ€™ll probably just make things worse.

And so, with a gentle laugh, she declined. โ€œThereโ€™s no need, Janessa. Iโ€™ll do my best on my own. Besides, I want to prove my innocence with my own strength.โ€

โ€œButโ€ฆโ€ Janessa wanted to say something else.

Madelyn, however, interrupted, โ€œThatโ€™s enough, Janessa. I need to review now. Thank you for your kindness, but I can manage. Donโ€™t worry about me.โ€

Since she had already made it clear, there wasnโ€™t much left for Janessa to say. All she could do was nod in agreement. โ€œAll right then, you focus on your revision. I wonโ€™t disturb you any further.โ€

With that, Janessa left the classroom.

At that moment, Felicity was standing at the classroom door. Seeing Janessa emerge, she quickly approached and asked, โ€œWhat did she say?โ€

Feeling helpless, Janessa replied, โ€œShe insists she can manage on her own and refused my assistance.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Felicity asked with concern, โ€œIs Madelyn really that confident?โ€

Janessa shrugged. โ€œHow would I know if sheโ€™s confident or not?โ€

โ€œWhat if she really does manage to write it?โ€ Felicity asked persistently.

Upon hearing these words, Janessa merely chuckled, a hint of ruthlessness flashing in her eyes. โ€œEven if she manages to write it, so what? I still have other ways to deal with her.โ€

Upon hearing those words, Felicity too, responded with a sly smile.

In the afternoon, while Madelyn was engrossed in her revision, she was summoned by Ruth.

Inside the office, Ruth said to Madelyn solemnly, โ€œMadelyn, for this paper, Professor Fuller and I will be supervising you until you finish. There will be absolutely no chance for you to cheat. So, are you sure you can handle it?โ€

Upon hearing that, Madelyn pondered for a moment before responding firmly, โ€œYes.โ€

Ruth was somewhat irritated when she saw her being so confident.

Unable to resist a sarcastic remark, she said, โ€œI hope you wonโ€™t disappoint me. Come to the multi-function room in the afternoon. Iโ€™m giving you the whole afternoon. If you canโ€™t deliver, youโ€™ll have to face the consequences!โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Madelyn acknowledged. After picking up her pen and paper, she headed off to the multi-function room.

By the time she arrived at the multi-function room, Yadiel and Ruth were already there. Yadiel was dressed casually that day, all in white. He exuded a sense of calm and gentleness.

Seeing Madelyn approach, Yadiel couldnโ€™t help but step forward. With a caring gesture, he gently stroked her hair and encouraged, โ€œKeep going, I believe in you!โ€

Madelyn felt a comforting warmth. Nodding, she assured, โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Yadiel. Iโ€™ll do my best.โ€

This scene fell into Ruthโ€™s eyes, and she was absolutely furious. Immediately, she scolded, โ€œMadelyn, timeโ€™s up! Start writing your thesis immediately!โ€

Madelyn had no choice but to enter the multi-function room.

And so, Madelyn spent the entire afternoon in that secluded classroom and diligently worked on her thesis.

During the process, Yadiel would occasionally gaze at her. Seeing her focused, he couldnโ€™t help but smile in reassurance.

Upon witnessing the scene, Ruth felt a pang of annoyance. She deliberately cleared her throat and said, โ€œMadelyn, pay attention!โ€

Madelyn rolled her eyes in exasperation, silently questioning when she had ever been anything but serious.

It was evening. The day was almost over. Ruth kept a close eye on the time. As soon as the bell rang, she promptly collected Madelynโ€™s essay. Madelyn was in the midst of reviewing her thesis when it was whisked away by Ruth swiftly.

Madelyn was helpless, but deep down, she didnโ€™t really care. She had put a lot of effort into writing this thesis, repeatedly pondering over it during the process. After thinking it over, she decided there shouldnโ€™t be any major issues, so she heaved a sigh of relief.

Ruth glanced at her with a hint of disdain upon seeing her nonchalant demeanor. โ€œDonโ€™t get ahead of yourself. With your mediocre skills, what good can you possibly produce?โ€

Tucking the thesis under her arm, Ruth said, โ€œBy tomorrow, Iโ€™ll have your thesis grade posted on the announcement board for everyone to see. I hope you wonโ€™t disappoint.โ€

Madelyn shrugged indifferently, thinking to herself that she had done her best and completed the thesis.

At that moment, Yadiel stepped forward and asked softly, โ€œYou finally finished writing. How do you feel!โ€

Madelyn gave a knowing smile and replied truthfully. โ€œI feelโ€ฆ okay. Anyway, I did my best. As for the rest, Iโ€™ll leave it up to fate.โ€

โ€œGood, thatโ€™s the right way to think,โ€ Yadiel said, nodding in relief. โ€œYouโ€™ve really worked hard, sitting all afternoon without much movement.โ€

Madelyn shook her head, indicating that it was no big deal. โ€œIโ€™m not tired at all. Time flies when Iโ€™m focused on my writing. It must be you whoโ€™s bored, waiting outside for me all this time.โ€

Yadiel smiled as he changed the subject. โ€œSince weโ€™re both working so hard, how about we have dinner together tonight? Iโ€™ve recently found a place that has pretty good food.โ€

However, Madelyn wasnโ€™t in the mood, so she reluctantly shook her head and declined politely. โ€œI canโ€™t, Yadiel. I have something to attend to this evening. Iโ€™m sorry.โ€

Yadiel had no choice but to let her go. โ€œAll right then, you go ahead. Weโ€™ll eat together next time.โ€

Having said their goodbyes, the two waved goodbye. Then Yadiel watched as Madelyn gradually disappeared into the distance.

As Ruth watched the scene unfold, she gritted her teeth in sheer jealousy. When had Yadiel ever treated her with such tenderness?

So, after Madelyn left, she stepped forward and asked, โ€œUm, Professor Fuller. I havenโ€™t had dinner yet. How about we have dinner together tonight?โ€

Yadiel furrowed his brows in discomfort. Suddenly, an idea struck him. He said, โ€œOh, I almost forgot. I have some unfinished business to attend to this evening, so I wonโ€™t be able to accompany you for dinner, Professor Pierson. I hope you have a pleasant meal.โ€

Having said that, Yadiel hurriedly left. Ruth was left standing there. Watching his retreating figure, she seethed with anger.
