Chapter 251 A Close Call

"Quick! Bring her to the emergency room!" a doctor hastily said after seeing Madelyn.

Several nurses immediately quickened their pace to rush Madelyn's stretcher into the emergency room.

"Sir, please calm down and wait patiently outside!" A nurse walked over and immediately stopped Sebastian, who was almost about to rush in.

Sebastian had no choice but to patiently wait on the chilly bench outside.

At that moment, his phone began to ring wildly. It was Harriet calling, likely about work updates.

Sebastian saw it but chose to act as if he hadn't.

At that moment, he didn't want to bother with anything else, as his mind was completely filled with thoughts of Madelyn.

If anything were to happen to this girl, Sebastian would not hesitate to tear the whole campus down.

He ended up waiting for a full two hours.

When the door to the emergency room swung open once more, the doctor emerged, carrying a tray laden with medical cotton swabs, all soaked in fresh blood.

Sebastian had no choice but to force himself to remain calm. He stepped forward and asked, "Doctor, how is she doing?"

"Thereโ€™s nothing major to worry about," the doctor said calmly. "Sheโ€™s taken a hard blow to the shoulder, resulting in a dislocated bone and a substantial crack in the shoulder blade, which caused some bleeding. But rest assured, itโ€™s not life-threatening. As for the rest, thereโ€™s hardly any issue. However, she might need to stay in the hospital for a while for recovery."

Upon hearing those words, Sebastian finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Following that, the nurses transported Madelyn, who had just finished her surgery, into the luxurious private room Sebastian had arranged for her.

After an indeterminate amount of time had passed, Jillian and Josiah, among others, arrived. Madelyn was still unconscious. However, upon hearing that her life was no longer in danger, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Suddenly, Madelyn's fingers twitched.

Her eyelids felt incredibly heavy, but she still managed to open her eyes slightly.

Once Madelyn opened her eyes and fully adjusted to the light, she realized that there were quite a few people gathered in the ward.

Sebastian, Jillian, Josiah, Tristan, and Yadiel were all present.

"Madelyn, you're awake!" Jillian suddenly exclaimed.

All eyes turned toward Madelyn. As expected, she had already awakened, but her complexion was pale.

Seeing everyone around, Madelyn felt a sense of warmth. She then attempted to sit up.

However, as soon as she moved, the color drained from Madelynโ€™s face. What's going on? Why can't I move the left part of my body? It feels as if the left part of my body doesn't exist! I feel numb! I can't move!

"Madelyn, what's wrong?" Jillian asked, a touch of worry evident in her tone.

Madelyn seemed utterly bewildered, asking in a daze, "What on earth happened to me?โ€

"The doctor said it's just a cracked shoulder blade, nothing too serious," Sebastian gently reassured from the side.

"Really?" Madelyn's panic escalated, her voice faint and helpless. "But why do I feel like I can't sense the left side of my body? Aโ€“Am I disabled now?"

Upon hearing these words, Jillian was completely taken aback. What?

A moment later, tears suddenly began to flow like a spring, and Jillian was on the verge of breaking down. "Madelyn, please don't scare me, okay? It must be just the anesthesia not wearing off yet. It's just a temporary numbness. I'll massage it for you, and it will be fine."

As she spoke, she stepped forward to give Madelyn a massage.

After several unsuccessful attempts, Madelyn couldn't help but let out a sigh of resignation. "It's no use, Jillian."

She knew all too well that this wasn't the effect of anesthesia, but rather she had truly lost all sensation.

At that moment, Sebastian remained silent. His face had turned incredibly grim.

Just then, the ward's door burst open as a few more people rushed in. It was Derek, leading Regina and Eunice. The whole family had rushed over.

"Dad," Madelyn called out to her father with a soft tone upon seeing him.

Jillian, Josiah, and the others seamlessly excused themselves and left the ward.

"Maddie, how are you doing? What exactly happened?" As soon as Derek heard the news, he rushed over at lightning speed. His worry was more intense than ever.

Madelyn didn't want her father to worry. She managed to regain her composure. "Itโ€™s nothing serious. I just had a minor mishap during the performance and got a little hurt. Thereโ€™s no need for concern."

"Looking at you now, it seems like you're not too badly off at all," Eunice said, her tone tinged with a hint of regret. "We were worried about you for nothing."

In that manner, it seemed as if they were almost wishing for something bad to happen to Madelyn.

Regina had also assumed that something serious had happened to Madelyn, so she hurried over, elated beyond measure.

Upon arrival, she saw that Madelyn seemed to be largely unscathed, aside from an injury on her shoulder. Regina couldnโ€™t help but feel a bit disgruntled. "It's good that you're not seriously hurt. But for someone your age, you should really be more careful."

Upon hearing these words, Madelyn thought of her own left side, numb and unresponsive, and fell into silence.

However, Derek couldnโ€™t bear to listen any longer. "Did you two, mother and daughter, follow me here just to make sarcastic remarks? Get out!"

Regina and Eunice were immediately taken aback.

They opened their mouths, wanting to say something more, but Derek's expression had already turned cold. Left with no choice, Regina and Eunice, albeit reluctantly, left together.

At that moment, Derek continued to look kindly at Madelyn, comforting her, saying, "Madelyn, don't worry, I will definitely hold the campus accountable. You won't suffer in vain."

Upon hearing these words, Madelyn feigned obedience by nodding.

Deep down, it was crystal clear that this matter was not solely the campus' responsibility. She knew someone had deliberately orchestrated it.

Suddenly, a thought flashed across her mind.

Madelyn could clearly recall walking back to the hall with Janessa. The malevolent look in Janessaโ€™s eyes was truly chilling, enough to make oneโ€™s hair stand on end.

Recalling that, Madelyn couldnโ€™t help but grit her teeth: Well, who else could have pulled off such a vile act if Janessa hadn't done it? All along, I maintained a high level of vigilance, fearing that I might fall into Janessaโ€™s trap. Yet, I never imagined that this woman could be so wicked, even intending to kill me with a stage light! If I didnโ€™t dodge swiftly, I wouldโ€™ve died!

The more Madelyn thought about it, the angrier she became. This Janessa is truly despicable! Devious!

Thus, while Derek and Sebastian were out having a discussion, Madelyn directly called in Jillian and Josiah and calmly stated.

"Jillian, Josiah, there's something I'd like your help with."

Josiah nodded in response.

Jillian, who was almost crying, quickly obliged, replying, "Madelyn, just say it. I'm willing to undergo anything to stand by your side!"

Seeing Jillian's earnest expression, Madelyn couldn't help but smile. With her right hand that still had sensation, she gently wiped away Jillian's tears and said. "Josiah, Jillian, could you do me a favor? Could you go to the campus later and help me pull up the surveillance footage from the hall's backstage today?"

"Of course, but what do you need it for?" Josiah asked, puzzled.
