Chapter 193: That Woman Is Not Simple
โHowever, weโve already engaged the best tracking team, and theyโve been dispatched to pursue. Those people should have no chance of escape.โ
Upon hearing that, Sebastian responded calmly. โIf you find any leads, report them to me immediately.โ
โYes,โ Malcolm nodded in agreement.
Following that, the discussion was almost concluded.
Sebastian told them to go back and rest before returning to his room.
Madelyn was truly exhausted. She had already fallen into a deep sleep and was even emitting faint snores from her little nose.
Sebastian sat by the bed, his dark eyes reflecting her adorable petite face, lost in thought. He suddenly let out a soft sigh.
The group stayed in Rodunst for a few more days.
Though the issues in Rodunst had been mostly resolved, Sebastianโs injury hadnโt fully healed. Naturally, Madelyn wouldnโt allow him to travel around, so they stayed put and patiently nursed his wounds.
During the meeting, Sebastian had no choice but to send Wesley and Harriet back first. โWesley, weโve mostly settled matters here, but thereโs still a lot of work to be done back home. You should go ahead and handle them.โ
Wesley glanced at Sebastianโs arm, promising, โAll right, you should stay here until you recover.โ
Sebastian nodded slightly.
However, upon hearing that Sebastian was planning to send her back, Harrietโs proud face instantly turned ashen.
If she and Wesley left first, wouldnโt Madelyn and Sebastian be alone here, getting cozy with each other?
Harriet immediately let out a sheepish laugh and tactfully declined, โThereโs no need, Sebastian. Iโd rather stay here and sort out the matters concerning the mines. Wesley can handle the domestic matters. When the time comes, Iโll return with you.โ
Return with me?
Upon hearing that, Sebastianโs brow furrowed slightly. He promptly dismissed the suggestion, saying, โYou donโt need to worry about this matter here. Iโll have some of the senior executives handle the follow-up. You should just return to your work.โ
โBut Iโฆโ Harriet opened her mouth, wanting to say something else, but Sebastianโs expression had already darkened.
Reluctantly, Harriet nodded. โAll right then.โ
โCome on, everyone. Itโs time for lunch,โ Madelyn announced.
Then, she enthusiastically opened the packed lunch and distributed a portion to everyone.
For a moment, everyone in the meeting room felt somewhat awkward.
Watching Madelyn revert back to her usual boisterous and carefree demeanor, Wesley suddenly had his doubts.
Was the assertive woman who stood her ground against him yesterday really Madelyn?
Did he see wrongly? Or was she possessed by some kind of spirit that day?
However, ever since Madelyn argued with him, Wesley hadnโt targeted her anymore.
Over the past few days, he had been looking at Madelyn with a certain scrutiny.
Wesley suddenly realized that if he observed Madelyn closely, he really couldnโt figure her out. Just how many sides did this woman have?
Why could she be one way today and completely different the next day?
What exactly was going on in that little head of hers?
After everyone had finished their meal, they dispersed.
Since Wesley and Harriet had booked their afternoon flight, they were going to head back to pack their bags.
After everyone had left, only Madelyn and Sebastian remained in the conference room.
The thought of spending the next few days undisturbed and alone with him made Madelynโs heart blossom with joy.
Suddenly, this joy was abruptly interrupted.
A phone call came through. When Madelyn saw that it was from Janessa, her brows immediately furrowed tightly.
After some thought, she decided to answer the call.
The moment the call connected, Janessa asked anxiously from the other end of the line, โHello, Madelyn? Whatโs going on? I havenโt seen you at school these past few days. I hope nothingโs wrongโฆโ
Madelyn sneered coldly. Can you be any more fake, Janessa?
She purposely replied, โOh, donโt worry. Sebastian and I went abroad for our honeymoon. Weโve been having so much fun that I forgot to tell you. Whatโs up? Do you need something?โ
โWhat? You two went on a honeymoon?โ Upon hearing that, Janessa nearly let out a shriek.
When did this happen, and why was I unaware of it?
Immediately, Janessa fell silent.
Without a doubt, Madelyn knew that Janessaโs face on the other end of the phone must be quite a sight to behold.
However, Madelyn couldnโt be bothered to continue this pointless conversation with her. She simply said, โWeโre going out to watch a movie later, so if thereโs nothing else, Iโll hang up now.โ
With that, Madelyn hung up without waiting for a response.
Looking at her phone, Janessa seethed with anger and ground her teeth in frustration.
Damn it, Madelyn. Youโve got to be kidding me!
Afternoon, at the military arms headquarters in Rodunst.
Ever since Madelyn returned with her team that day, Grimo and his crew immediately erased all surveillance footage and retreated.
Over the past few days, although there seemed to be no apparent activity on their part, they were discreetly monitoring Madelynโs situation.
When Adelar returned that day, he truthfully reported the crazy things Madelyn had done.
Upon hearing that she had disguised herself as Morgana and even had her people pretend to be Morganaโs one-eyed subordinates, Grimoโs emerald green eyes widened in astonishment.
Grimo was shocked. What kind of monster is this woman? How does she have nerves of steel? Who gave her the courage?
Adelar was nearly losing his mind. Every time he thought about that day, his heart would race with fear. He couldnโt help but say, โBoss, I really think that woman is not simple. If she were just a prominent young lady, how could she possess such a strong aura? Even, evenโฆโ
Despite witnessing countless battles and killings before, Adelar was now somewhat hesitant and stammering.
โEven what?โ Grimoโs strikingly handsome face inexplicably turned serious.
โThere was even a moment when I thought this woman was Morgana herself,โ Adelar said, his voice trembling.
Upon hearing those words, Grimo felt a faint surprise.
Suddenly, a bizarre thought struck him. Could it be possible that Madelyn was a part of Oceanic Empire?
Otherwise, how could she, a mere civilian, know about his arsenal? It was even less plausible for her to boldly demand people from him, let alone venture into such a dangerous place and emerge unscathed.
The more Grimo thought about it, the more he realized that Madelyn was not as simple as she seemed.
Immediately, he ordered, โAdelar, find an opportunity in the next few days to make contact with this woman again. I think I need to see her one more time.โ
