Reborn to My Engagement Night Chapter 157 A Formidable Love Rival

After having breakfast, Madelyn got ready to head to school.

Throughout the journey, she sat restlessly in the passenger seat, cheerfully asking, "Sebastian, did I do okay this morning?"

Sebastian glanced at her, quietly humming in affirmation, a subtle smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. Her transformation was apparent, as if she had become a completely different person from before.

Recalling her words from yesterday, "I am Sebastian's wife for life," a sense of unexplained joy filled Sebastian's heart.

Yet, somehow, he still felt a lingering sense of unease and even harbored some worry that everything was merely an illusion, a fleeting dream that could vanish into thin air one day.

After dropping off Madelyn at the campus, Sebastian took the same route back to his company.

Upon arriving at the office, he barely had a chance to settle in his seat when Wesley approached with a stack of documents.

"Sebastianโ€ฆ" Before Wesley could finish his sentence, he noticed that Sebastian seemed to be in a good mood, a hint of a smile persistently tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Without a doubt, aside from Madelyn, who else could make him, with his usually icy demeanor, crack a smile?

With these thoughts in mind, Wesley couldn't help but click his tongue helplessly. "To think that you, the lofty CEO of Lockhart Group, could be so easily amused by a woman. Honestly, it seems there's no hope for you," he remarked, sighing.

Sebastian ignored the remark, merely looking up and asking, "Is something the matter?"

Wesley casually shrugged, replying, "It's no big deal. I just wanted to let you know that Harriet is back."

For a moment, it felt as if the air had become stagnant.

"Why did she come back?" Sebastian slightly furrowed his brows.

Wesley snorted. "Aren't you asking the obvious? What else could it be? Of course, it's for you. Everything she does, she does for you, and it's not like you're unaware of it."

Sebastian's expression had already turned somber while Wesley was speaking. At this point, he was glaring intently at the latter.

Wesley could only raise his hands in surrender, grinning as he said, "All right, all right. I'm sorry! In truth, something has happened to our overseas branch." He suddenly became serious, placing the stack of documents on Sebastian's desk.

"Recently, our overseas branch has been facing a series of issues. We suspect that our system has been maliciously attacked, leading to the leakage of crucial internal information. Currently, I've already dispatched people to investigate this matter. Harriet's return this time is also related to this issue," he explained.

"Find out the attacker."

Wesley nodded seriously after hearing that. "Understood. I'll take my leave, then."

"Oh, right." He had barely taken a step when he turned back. "Since Harriet just returned from abroad, I asked her to go home and rest first. She will come over once she's settled in."

Sebastian hummed in response, not even bothering to raise an eyebrow.

That afternoon, Madelyn packed up her things after finishing her class, still intending to visit Sebastian at his company.

When she arrived at the office, Malcolm said, "Mr. Lockhart is in a meeting, Mrs. Lockhart. It's rather important, so I don't know when it will conclude."

"Ahโ€ฆ" Madelyn felt a slight sense of disappointment.

Fortunately, she was used to it and responded casually, "I'll wait for him in the office, then."

"Very well," said Malcolm.

Following that, Madelyn went to the office and waited.

She spent her time engrossed in mobile games one moment, watching movies the next, and occasionally listening to music. After all, she was in no hurry and was content to wait patiently.

The sky gradually darkened, and night fell.

Madelyn had been waiting since six in the evening until nine at night. This three-hour wait almost had her drifting off to sleep on the couch.

Finally, as she was on the verge of falling asleep, the familiar sound of footsteps came from outside the door.

Just by the sound of footsteps, Madelyn could already tell Sebastian had returned. A wave of joy immediately swept through her heart.

Sure enough, the very next second, the office door was pushed open.

Madelyn was just about to dash over in excitement, ready to throw her arms around Sebastian, spin him around, and then cling to him while coaxing him to take her out for a meal.

However, she hadn't even taken a step when her smile vanished.

When Sebastian entered the office, he wasn't alone. Trailing behind him was a woman, clad in a professional suit. Her demeanor was cool and aloof, her beauty striking yet indifferent.

She was none other than Harriet Moore.

Outsiders often said that Harriet was a subordinate of Sebastian. She was incredibly gorgeous, with an inherent aloofness subtly radiating from her. Moreover, she was intelligent, efficient, and precise in her work, never disappointing anyone.

Madelyn froze upon seeing her.

In a fleeting moment, a surge of memories flooded her mind, wave after wave, like a relentless sea. Finally, she recalled Harriet.

Madelyn didn't have many opportunities to interact with Harriet in her previous life.

At that time, she was truly notorious. One could say her infamy was widespread. Throughout the city's high society, everyone considered the daughter of the Thornton family as an unlearned and incompetent wild child. She was the epitome of a cautionary tale for the prominent young ladies.

Thus, not many people held Madelyn in high regard.

A woman like Harriet, who was aloof and proud, genuinely looked down on her. As a result, they had only met briefly a few times, and neither left much of an impression on the other.

Despite everything, Madelyn was genuinely aware of the formidable nature of Harriet.

In the business world, women were often at a disadvantage. However, Harriet refused to accept defeat. Relying on her abilities, she gradually became Sebastian's right-hand woman.

Madelyn was also aware that Sebastian's mother greatly adored Harriet.

Moreover, if Madelyn's memory served her right, Harriet still had some feelings for Sebastian.

At that moment, Harriet spotted Madelyn.

Her gaze subtly shifted, but her expression remained remarkably indifferent, merely greeting lightly. "Ms. Thornton."

Harriet had long heard while abroad that Sebastian was engaged to the daughter of the Thornton family. She had also heard that Madelyn was a sly and arrogant girl, which stirred a bit of resentment in her heart.

In Harriet's eyes, such an "inferior" woman was not worthy of Sebastian.

Out of courtesy, Madelyn also nodded subtly.

She then shifted her gaze to Sebastian, her little face puckered in distress. "Sebastian, you've finally finished your meeting. I've been waiting for you for so long," she complained.

Upon seeing her pitiful and aggrieved expression, a subtle smile tugged at the corners of Sebastian's mouth. "Why have you come?" he asked.
