Chapter 134 I Was Wrong
In the entire city, who wasnโt aware of the Lockhart familyโs terrifying wealth and power? If one accidentally provoked them, one might not even know how one meets oneโs doom!
As they slept, the sun began to rise on the horizon.
Josiah had dozed off without realizing it and woke to find Madelyn still sound asleep. He walked over to wake her up.
โHey, it is dawn. Wake up.โ
Leaning against the wall, Madelyn mumbled, โNo, let me sleep a little longerโฆโ
Josiah almost laughed out of sheer frustration. How could this woman sleep so soundly in the middle of nowhere? Is she serious?
Not holding back, Josiah pushed her awake. โHey, lazy pig, get up.โ
โWho are you calling a pig?โ Madelyn shot back, finally waking up and glaring at Josiah.
Josiah couldnโt help but laugh. Instead of arguing, he looked at the sky and said, โIt is morning. We can probably head back now.โ
Madelyn nodded and used the wall to help herself stand up, only to grimace in pain. โOw, ow, ow!โ
โWhatโs wrong?โ Josiah asked. He glanced at her knee and noticed that blood was seeping through the cloth wrapped around her injury.
Damn it. I thought it was just a fall, but the injury was worse than I had expected.
Given the circumstances, it was better to get down the mountain and take her to a hospital than to do a makeshift bandage here.
With this in mind, Josiah asked, โCan you walk?โ
Madelyn nodded. โI think so.โ
As soon as she took a step, her leg gave out.
Josiah quickly caught her, muttering, โReally? If you canโt walk, just say so. Why push yourself?โ
As he spoke, he promptly crouched down in front of her.
Madelyn looked at him, confused. โWhat are you doing?โ
โAre you stupid? Of course, I am going to carry you. Canโt you see that?โ Josiah was almost fuming.
โGet lost, I am not your lackey,โ Josiah retorted, then stood up and started walking.
The path was easier to find in the daylight. In a few minutes, Josiah had carried her to the main road.
Just then, Tristanโs men called out not far away, โJosiah! Josiah!โ
โOver here,โ Josiah responded weakly.
Seeing him, one of Tristanโs men shouted, โFound him! Found him! Tristan, theyโre here!โ
Everyone rushed over, including Sebastian.
Madelyn saw Sebastian from a distance and began frantically patting Josiahโs back. โPut me down! Quick!โ
โWhat are you doing?โ Josiah, pained by her slaps, hurriedly set her down.
No sooner had he done so than Sebastian stormed over with a dark expression. He scooped Madelyn up without a word.
Before she could protest, Sebastian was already carrying her away.
Josiah immediately chased after them, blocking Sebastian. โWho are you?โ
Sebastian didnโt even look at him as he was focused solely on Madelyn.
Embarrassed, Madelyn quickly reassured Josiah, โJosiah, I am fine. Thanks so much for last night. Donโt worry, I promise to keep my word about your car. Goodbye!โ
With that, Sebastian carried her off.
Josiah was at a loss for words, yet he could do nothing but watch helplessly as Sebastian carried Madelyn away with determined strides.
On the way back, the atmosphere in the car was tense, the air heavy.
Madelyn felt a chill from Sebastianโs dark expression.
Sebastianโs face had darkened to an extreme degree, appearing particularly terrifying.
Madelyn felt a bit scared and wasnโt sure if she should speak.
Finally, she mustered the courage to speak. โSebastian, I am sorryโฆโ
โYou are courting death!โ Sebastian suddenly exploded in anger.
Both Wesley and Madelyn were startled.
Sebastianโs tone remained harsh. โNext time you want to die, just let me know. I wonโt stop you. But donโt drag others into it!โ
He had searched for over six hours, fearing he might never see her again.
โYou think there will be a next time?โ Sebastianโs voice rose as his anger increased.
Madelyn immediately shook her head. โNo, no, there wonโt be a next time. I was wrong. I wonโt do it again.โ
Her pitiful tone made even Wesley feel sorry for her.
He intervened, โSebastian, sheโs apologized. Let it go. You didnโt sleep all night, and getting all worked up now will only harm your health!โ
Upon hearing those words, Sebastian fell silent.
Despite everything, he still maintained a cold expression, not even sparing Madelyn a glance. It was clear that he wasnโt going to forgive her that easily.
Seeing this, Madelyn felt even more guilty.
Knowing he hadnโt slept all night made her heart ache.
As he was still furious, Madelyn didnโt know what to say and decided to wait until he calmed down before offering an explanation.
She said nothing and sat beside him quietly.
A little while later, they reached the foot of the mountain.
Jillian, who also hadnโt slept all night, was anxiously waiting there.
She had no other way to help, so she kept praying for Madelynโs safe return.
Fortunately, at this moment, the eye-catching Maybach finally turned up.
As soon as those inside the car got out, Jillianโs eyes filled with tears. She rushed over and cried out, โMadelyn, you are back! Do you know how worried I was? I was so scared Iโd never see you again, Madelynโฆโ
She hugged Madelyn tightly and burst into noisy sobs.
Madelyn hugged her back, comforting her, โDonโt cry, Jillian. I am back, safe and sound.โ
Jillian nodded vigorously. โIt is good you are back. I am sorry, it is all my fault. If it werenโt for me, you wouldnโt have been in danger. I am so sorryโฆโ
โJillian, donโt say that. We are friends, arenโt we? If it were me, you would have saved me too, right?โ Madelyn patted her head, trying to soothe her.
