Chapter 118 I Am Really Worried About You
Madelyn also advised, โDad, you must take care of yourself. Iโll come home to see you whenever I have the time.โ
Upon hearing this, Derek nodded in consolation and left.
Derek, Regina, and Eunice were all seated together in the same car on the way home.
During the ride, Regina couldnโt help but ask, her face dark with annoyance. โDerek, what on earth did you mean just now?โ
Derek, however, played dumb. โWhat do you mean?โ
โDonโt play dumb, Derek. You just mentioned handing the company over to Madelyn. Donโt tell me youโre thinking of having her take over the business?โ Regina let out a frustrated sigh. โI donโt mean to criticize you, Derek, but youโre being too impulsive. You know what Madelynโs like. Sheโs not suited to run a company."
โWhat makes her unsuitable?โ Derek suddenly retorted.
โI know, in the past, Madelyn was negligent and underperformed, making it risky to entrust her with the company. But now, sheโs finally willing to settle down and work hard. Of course, Iโm going to give her the company."
Derek continued, โMoreover, back then, the old man made it clear that the family wealth must be left to the eldest child. Not only is Madelyn the eldest, but her share in the company has always been the largest. If I donโt hand the company over to her, then who should I give it to?โ
Upon hearing this, Regina was extremely displeased.
She protested, โYes, Madelyn is your daughter, but Eunice is your daughter too! Derek, how can you be biased? What will happen to Eunice when you hand the company over to Madelyn?โ
After all the strenuous discussions and endless debates, it all boiled down to fighting over the family inheritance.
Derek felt inexplicably drained, his anger flaring up. โRegina, ask yourself, when have I ever shown favoritism? Havenโt I given Eunice enough? Every house and car we own, all kinds of immovable assets have been given to Eunice! If we were to seriously look into it, Eunice has even received more than Madelyn. What more could you possibly be unsatisfied with?โ
โLโฆโ Regina was momentarily at a loss for words.
Derek wasnโt wrong in what he said. However, her original plan was to take everything for herself! She didnโt intend to leave even a tiny bit for Madelyn.
Hence, she was against Derek giving away the company to Madelyn.
Derek turned to Regina and saw her reluctance. It was clear just how much her greed was showing!
His expression darkened involuntarily. โRegina, Iโm warning you, youโd better not harbor any ill intentions toward Madelyn. As her father, I will fulfill all the promises Iโve made to her. If you dare to harm Madelyn, I wonโt let you off.โ
Upon hearing those words, Regina was so infuriated that she gritted her teeth.
"Damn it,โ she thought, "Who the hell does Madelyn think she is? She doesnโt deserve this much!"
However, all she could do was swallow her bitterness. "I understand," she said.
Upon arriving home, Derek changed and headed off to work.
Seeing that they were the only ones left, Eunice couldnโt help but complain to her mother. โMom, Dad really does play favorites. He gives everything to Madelyn without even considering our feelings.โ
Regina also felt uneasy at her words.
With a cold look in her eyes, she said, โDonโt worry, I promise you, I will secure everything from the Thornton family for you. As for Madelyn, Iโll make sure she ends up with nothing!โ
That afternoon, after double-checking and confirming that there were no major health issues, Madelyn was discharged.
Not long after she reached home, Jillian called.
She asked with concern through the phone, โMadelyn, are you feeling any better?โ
Madelyn gave a calm smile. โIโm much better now, a little rest at home and Iโll be fine.โ
Jillian nodded, then, with a sudden stutter, she said, โUm, Madelyn, Iโm really worried about you. Can I come over to your place to check on you?โ
Madelyn responded gracefully. โOf course, you can.โ
โBut, wonโt I be bothering you?โ Jillian softly asked.
Madelyn said nonchalantly, โNot at all, I happen to be home alone. Your visit would be perfect company for me.โ
Jillian nodded. โAll right, Iโll come right away.โ
Madelyn hummed in response, then hung up the phone.
In less than half an hour, the doorbell rang.
Lydia walked over to open the door. Seeing Jillian, she asked politely, โMay I know who you are?โ
โLydia, sheโs my classmate, let her in.โ Just then, Madelyn descended from upstairs.
Upon hearing that Jillian was a classmate, Lydia promptly opened the door and welcomed Jillian inside.
As soon as Jillian stepped in, she was utterly stunned.
From the outside, the house bore the resemblance of a castle.
She never expected the interior to be as luxurious as a palace as well.
All sorts of furniture, including tables and sofas, were designed in the style of Uprian driftwood carvings.
Beyond that, the wallpapers in the room, the ceiling, the tables, and even the stairs were all designed with a unique touch of ingenuity.
The overall color scheme was a subtle blend of cream and gray.
Though the tones were distinctly cool, they somehow evoked a sense of warmth.
Jillian was simply dumbfounded as she took it all in.
She had always known that Madelyn was the renowned heiress of the illustrious Thornton family and was undoubtedly well off.
But she never expected her to be this well off.
For a moment, Jillian was so apprehensive that she didnโt know whether she should sit or stand.
Upon seeing her tense demeanor, Madelyn couldnโt help but chuckle. โWhy are you so nervous? Have a seat."
Jillian gave a slight nod, only then did she dare to gingerly sit down on the sofa. She asked with concern, โMadelyn, are you all right?โ
Madelyn rose to her feet, twirling around twice before laughing. โSee? Iโm perfectly fine. Itโs all in the past now.โ
Jillian felt reassured at that.
Following that, she placed the thermos she was holding onto the coffee table and opened it, all the while saying, โIโm glad youโre okay. My mom was worried about you and specifically made some chicken broth for you to help boost your immunity. You should have some.โ
Madelynโs face immediately lit up with joy. โWow, chicken broth? Itโs been a while since Iโve had it!โ
As she spoke, she hastily lifted the thermos, taking a large gulp.
Unable to hold back her praise, she said, โMrs. Lynchโs cooking skills are truly amazing. This soup is incredibly delicious.โ
Jillian couldnโt help herself as her eyes welled up with tears as she watched Madelyn.
โMadelyn, Iโm sorry. Youโve helped me so much, yet all I can offer you is soupโฆโ
Madelyn waved her hand dismissively. โWhatโs the big deal? Bringing me soup is a great idea. I usually donโt get to enjoy such delicious stuff, so stop overthinking it.โ
Upon hearing her comforting words, Jillian gave a relieved smile.
Following that, they chattered idly while Madelyn drank the soup. Once she was done, Jillian took the thermos and left.
As for the matter concerning Sebastian, Jillian left it alone as she knew it wasnโt the right time and place to bring it up.
Madelyn was glad she didnโt as she couldnโt be bothered to explain.
