Listen to this chapter:

“Looks like my refusal to divorce you is getting in the way of your plans to move on.”

“The person you like—is it that crippled Lila?”

Chapter 68: Entering the Entertainment Industry

Two, seeing me enraged, abruptly stood up, forcefully suppressing the urge to hit her. I shouted loudly, “Yvette!” How could she be so rude and disrespectful, rallying behind Lila’s back like that? Lila had broken her leg because of me, and no one could comment on her interest without—

She narrowed her eyes and spoke with a sharp edge in her voice, “You were so embarrassed and angry when I lured you and forced your clothes off that—”

“Now, I’ve only said a few words, and you want to hit me again. So, what now? Are you getting angry because I’ve revealed your true feelings?”

I took a deep breath and said slowly, “Her leg has already recovered.”

Yvette’s lips curled into a cold smile, and her demeanor turned icy. “So, are you planning to marry her after divorcing me?”

I could sense a hint of suppressed anger in her tone—a woman’s possessiveness over a man at play. Even with a pet, you’d still want to remain loyal.

I said, with a stern face, “You don’t need to ask so much. If you don’t want me to be with Randall, don’t drag Lila into this, and don’t bully her. You have someone you want to protect, and so do I. I just want to know if that’s enough for you to consider a divorce?”

The air seemed tense for a moment, and no one spoke. Yvette leered her head and looked at me, her gaze gradually dimming. A cold smirk played at the corner of her mouth, tinged with hostility.

“Don’t compare your disabled lover to Randall. She’s not even on the same level as him, and neither are you. You’re nothing more than a pleasant decoration that I kept around because I found you pleasing. But now, you’re just causing trouble and annoying me, so I’ll show you away.”

“Doce… the protector here is pottiest. Let’s get divorced immediately when we return—”

The moment she said the first part, I really wanted to slap her. What did it have to do with how long I was with Lila, whether her leg was fine, or if I was just a decoration? She should just mind her own business with Randall and stop talking so much. What a waste of words.

But when I heard the second part, my heart trembled suddenly, and then an overwhelming wave of joy surged within me. Yvette had changed her mind; she had finally agreed to divorce me!

I immediately let out a sigh of relief and looked at her with ease, a smile creeping onto my lips.

“Alright, the moment this present is unwrapped we get divorced when we return to the country. Whoever hesitates is a coward.”

The moment those words left my mouth, Yvette’s gaze grew even colder and more hostile, like a flame ready to explode.

At that moment, my phone rang. I glanced at the screen and saw it was Lila calling. It was none of her business.

A mocking laugh suddenly echoed in my ear, the voice still as low and cold as ever. Even though nothing was said, I could feel a tingling chill down my spine. I didn’t bother gauging Yvette’s thoughts and answered my phone, squinting at her.

“One more thing: even if I’m the worst kind of person, I still have my pride. Take care; I won’t see you out.”

Yvette stared at me impassively, her brows furrowed in thought; she didn’t say a word. She simply turned around and slammed the door behind her.

The room immediately fell silent, except for the phone’s incessant ringing. I immediately answered the call. “Lila.”

Lila’s voice was clear and cold. Yet, it felt like she was smiling gently. “I saw your message. How’s everything in Florida? I hope you’re not feeling out of place.” While savoring my nearly cold steak, I chatted with Lila. The food had gotten cold after the argument with Yvette, but thinking about getting divorced soon made my mood much lighter.

“I’m doing well, and I’m getting divorced soon.”

“What are you doing?”

“I just finished cooking and am about to eat. How’s Benjamin? I hope his heart isn’t bothering him.”

“He’s better. Krony will go see him in a few days, and people from my company will keep an eye on him. He’ll be fine.”

I hesitated and carefully asked, “Lila, how’s your leg?”

In my past life, Lila didn’t meet me as early as she did now, so I’m not sure when her leg fully recovered. But I thought that if she still needed a follow-up check, it could mean the doctor thought her body hadn’t completely recovered.

Lila laughed lightly, despite the underlying tension. “You’re being awfully cautious—why are you being so cautious? The doctor said my leg is recovering well. I just need to avoid putting too much weight on it for a while.”

I felt a lot of relief, and my eyes widened in wonder. As long as Lila’s leg could recover—

“I’ll probably be here for about half a month. Maybe we can go back to the country together if the filming works out.”

She spoke softly after a long pause, “Owen, someone wants to sign me and make me an author. I’ve checked; it’s a pretty big entertainment company, and…” She paused. This never happened in my past life.

I'm not sure why it never happened in my past life. So, why would Lila turn down this opportunity in this timeline?

This was a pretty big deal. A popular style that everyone loved these days. So, why did she turn it down in her past life?

“It’s just that I want to be closer to you all. After all, the schedule and everything wouldn’t be up to par.”

I was baffled. Why did she let this opportunity be so silly? I know Kenny and I both work so hard to support each other. But she never considers—

"...being your little assistant when you're in Lawndale, and we can meet every day.”

That was our agreement. We would see each other daily.

"And you have a tribe to support and shine on a stage that belongs to you! I can’t wait for us to meet at the peak of your success." The particular see meant to take and not sacrifice everything for

Chapter 80: Entering the Entertainment…

Lila repeated my words, though I wasn’t sure what she was thinking. She smiled sourly. “Okay,”

I quickly chimed in, “Then I’m your biggest fan now!”

Lila laughed even more happily. “Can you send me your address? I’ll come find you once I’ve settled everything.”

I told her the name of the hotel I was staying at. She sounded happy and murmured softly, “I’ll stand in the brightest spot, maybe you’ll be able to see me in your eyes.” I didn’t quite catch the second half of what she said. Just as I was about to ask, there was a sudden, urgent knock on the door from outside. “Ms. Yates, have you rested?”
