Chapter 61
Hearing Natalie insist on calling the police, Jennifer was truly frightened. She couldnโt understand where Natalie found the nerve to go against Easton and the Simpson family.
Murray walked over and stood beside Natalie, a wicked smile on his face. โNatalie, donโt worry. Iโll call the police right now.โ
He picked up his phone to dial. Natalie was puzzled. โHasnโt he already called the police?โ
Eastonโs deep eyes flickered. โMurray, wait. Donโt call the police just yet. Tell me, what do you want?โ
Murray had expected Easton to jump in to defend Jennifer. Natalie, too, was long accustomed to Eastonโs ways. She was used to it; her heart had grown numb.
โWow, Mr. Garcia, youโre really willing to go to great lengths for your childhood sweetheart,โ Murray smiled. โI want fifty percent of the Garcia family shares. That seems fair, doesnโt it, Easton? Youโd be using your company to buy her safety.โ
Jennifer and Nickโs eyes widened in shock.
Jennifer was outraged, feeling that Murray had gone too far. โMurray, youโre being unreasonable! If you take all those shares, whatโs Easton supposed to do?โ
She couldnโt believe Murray was making such an outrageous demand.
Murray sneered, looking at Jenniferโs face with disgust. โAnd what does his future have to do with me? Heโs doing this to save you, isnโt he? Youโre his priceless treasure.โ
โUsing all the Garcia familyโs assets to save you might not be enough. If he were to put his very life on the line for you, then he could really prove his pure devotion,โ he laughed mockingly.
Jennifer fell silent.
She felt a deep fear toward Murray, this selfโproclaimed bully from childhood. No one dared cross him. Even Jenniferโs four older brothers stayed out of his way, and Easton was wary of him too.
Because of his reputation as a ruthless troublemaker, Jennifer had calculated against Emma back then, believing sheโd planned everything perfectly. She still couldnโt understand how she had failed.
Natalie glanced at Murray with a hint of admiration; his sharp tongue did live up to his devilish reputation.
Easton understood that Murray wasnโt genuinely interested in calling the police but had ulterior motives.
โMr. Spencer, you canโt possibly swallow the entire Garcia family. Tell me, what do you really want?โ Eastonโs deep voice held a seductive allure.
Murray didnโt waste time. He turned to Natalie. โNatalie, I heard you left the marriage with nothing. Easton really was stingy. How about I negotiate twenty percent of the shares for you?โ
Natalie shot him a cold look. โNo, thank you. I find his shares tainted. Hurry up and wrap this upโI canโt breathe here.โ
Eastonโs gaze darkened as he looked at her intently. โShe finds me tainted?โ
Easton involuntarily took a step back, distancing himself from Jennifer.
Seeing Natalieโs rejection, Murray turned to Easton with a smirk. โMr. Garcia, if youโre set on protecting Jennifer, itโs simpleโhand over the land you own on the west side.โ
Without a second thought, Easton agreed.
Murray quickly obtained the contract, his eyes gleaming as he looked at Jennifer. โMs. Simpson, thanks for playing. I just secured a few billion with ease.โ
Jennifer silently shed tears, shooting him a vicious glare.
A flicker of murderous intent passed through Murrayโs eyes. โGo ahead, glare all you wantโletโs see if you can glare me to death.โ
Murray laughed, holding the contract, and then turned to Valerie and Natalie. โNatalie, letโs go. Iโll treat you to dinner. Today has been exceptionally satisfying! When I make profits off this deal, Iโll give you twenty percent.โ
Natalie shook her head. โNo, thanks. I donโt want my hands tainted.โ
Without another word or glance back, she left with Valerie and Murray.
Wendy, watching Natalieโs departing figure, slumped into the sofa. She knew she had truly lost her daughter.
Jennifer quickly grabbed Eastonโs arm, crying in frustration. โEaston, you canโt just let that wretch Natalie get away! They set me up together!โ
Eastonโs cold gaze landed on her. โJennifer, then why were you so afraid to let the police investigate? Donโt think that what theyโd uncover is beyond my reach. Enough of this nonsenseโthere wonโt be a next time.โ
โConsider this my last indulgence because you once saved my life. But if anything like this happens again, youโre on your own.โ With that, Easton turned and walked away.
Jennifer stood there, stunned. โDoes Easton no longer believe me?โ
Nickโs face was ashen. He got up, furious, and kicked the two men several times.
โUseless! You worthless scum canโt even handle this. Get out!โ Nick yelled in rage, and the two men scrambled to escape.
Wendy sat on the sofa, watching the scene unfold, her tears flowing silently. It was too late for regret.
Just as Easton was about to push open the door, he overheard Murrayโs voice. โNatalie, why didnโt you let me bring out the evidence? With it, we could have put Jennifer in prison for at least twenty years.โ
Natalie took a deep breath. โIt wouldnโt work. Easton would do everything in his power to protect her. Even if you present the evidence, it wonโt have much impact.โ
โThereโs someone behind Jennifer who wants control over the entire Spencer family. I donโt know who they are, you should stay cautious,โ she warned Murray.
โNatalie, I realize I almost misunderstood you again today,โ Murray admitted. โIโll keep investigating. I suspect Easton and Jennifer are working together to take over my familyโs assets.โ
โThey both showed up that day, and if they poisoned the pool to โsaveโ my grandmother, it would be an easy way to get close to us and gain access to critical business information,โ he continued.
Natalie froze slightly, realizing heโd guessed right. In her previous life, thatโs precisely how it all had played out. This time, her presence had already changed the Spencer familyโs fate.
โItโs not Easton,โ Natalie replied, shaking her head. โThereโs someone else who wants the Garcia family as well. Iโll investigate and let you know if I find anything. As for dinner, I think Iโll passโIโm tired and just want to go home and rest.โ
As she turned to leave, Murray quickly called out, โNatalie, doesnโt any of this make you sad? You were married to a loser like Easton, after all.โ
