Chapter 379
Jennifer finally saw Eastonโs cold face. Her eyes were filled with panic. She knew Easton was furious, extremely furious. Tears flowed down her face as she looked at Easton.
She said, โEaston, please help me. Are you really going to let your money go down the drain?โ
โAs long as you get Natalie to come out and apologize, admitting that she planned all of this with Maris to ruin me, then my name will be cleared."
โEaston, weโve grown up together. You have to help me. Also, didnโt you promise to marry me once?โ
Easton smiled with a mysterious expression. He said, โJennifer, I said that because you claimed you saved me back then.โ
A flicker of guilt flashed in Jenniferโs eyes as she cried helplessly, โEaston, I saved you from the fire back then, and I almost died myself. If you donโt believe me, ask my dad. He knows best what happened then.โ
Easton stared at Jennifer intently and said nothing. He thought, โNatalie is right; I am blind to the truth. How canโt I see through Jenniferโs terrible acting?โ
Just then, Jenniferโs phone rang. She was surprisingly thrilled when she saw the notification; she knew Natalie had seen the picture. She purposely answered the call right in front of Easton.
โNatalie, are you looking for me?โ Jennifer deliberately mentioned Natalieโs name.
Natalie started cursing right away, โGet lost, would you? Are you scared of disappearing if you donโt make a scene? Easton was taking care of you, fine. I gave him back to you ages ago. Now hurry up and take him away.
โWhatโs your point in sending me those photos and messages? If youโre capable, marry him! If youโre bold, have his kid!
โIf youโve got the guts, get a marriage certificate and show it off to me; maybe then Iโd respect you a bit more. Stop sending me this garbage, it makes me sick to my stomach. Youโre disgusting enough already, get lost!
โDonโt act like a tease in front of me; Iโm not Easton. And by the way, youโve sent me more than enough evidence. I wonโt need any more, thanks. With what youโve given me, I can claim half of Eastonโs assets, thanks again!โ
Jennifer felt like her face was burning with embarrassment.
After a rant and some cursing, Natalie hung up the phone without a second thought. Then she sent the screenshots of the photos and chat to Easton without delay.
She said: [Tell your precious darling to stop sending me this disgusting stuff. So thatโs why your spirit was with her last night.]
Easton got the message and realized it had been sent right before Jennifer came in.
Jennifer saw it, too. She was stunned by Natalieโs action. She suddenly looked at Easton.
Easton frowned and glanced at Jennifer. He asked, โHave you been sending Natalie these disgusting messages?โ
โIโฆโ Jennifer hesitated. Her face turned red. She wished she could tear Natalie to pieces. She said, โEaston, Iโm trying to help you, hoping sheโd leave you sooner.โ
โAnd then?โ Easton asked, his expression unreadable, his voice calm and detached.
Jennifer cried her heart out. She thought, โIsnโt it clear to him already?โ She asked, โEaston, you promised to marry me. Why did you break your promise?โ
Easton replied, โSo why did you run? If you hadnโt, I wouldโve married you. You gave up, so donโt regret it now.
โYou know better than anyone why Iโve been good to you. But by deliberately trying to ruin my marriage, youโre showing me a different side of yourself, Jennifer.โ
Easton stood up and walked to the window. He looked out at the snowy weather and said coldly, โJennifer, take care of yourself.โ
Jennifer suddenly stood up. She stared at Eastonโs indifferent back with a wave of fierce anger in her eyes. She thought, โIs Easton no longer willing to help me?โ
Jennifer knew Easton had changed, but she still wanted to hold on to him. She really regretted what she had done before. She said, โEaston, you said youโd protect me forever. Were those just empty words?โ
She cried and questioned, โI said it was for special reasons. Your mom forced me to leaveโI didnโt want to go, Easton. I never ran away, and it wasnโt because of your disability.
โEaston, if you donโt believe me, you can look into it, or ask your mom how I really left.โ
Easton asked, โThen tell me why my mom doesnโt like you but only likes Natalie.โ He kept his back to Jennifer, his expression as cold as ice.
Jennifer was at a loss. She had no idea why Charlotte didnโt like her.
Every time Charlotte saw Jennifer, she was unhappy. On the contrary, Charlotte immediately decided Natalie was her future daughter-in-law when she first saw Natalie.
Later, Jennifer poisoned Charlotte, driving Charlotte insane. In the end, Easton sent Charlotte to a mental hospital.
Jennifer thought, โEaston is as good as dead anyway; even William canโt tolerate him. But now isnโt the right time. Easton has to protect me like before.โ
She made up an excuse to brush off Easton, โEaston, maybe it was Natalie who bad-mouthed me in front of your mom. After all, at that time, everyone thought I was just the switched-at-birth daughter.
โYour mom probably looked down on me because she thought I wasnโt the real daughter of the Simpson family.โ
Easton suddenly turned around and looked at Jennifer with eyes that were deep and hard to read. He said, โJennifer, youโve always misunderstood one thing.
โWhat my mom cares about is that Natalie is the daughter of Wendy. The Simpson family is nothing but a bunch of freeloading leeches.โ
Jennifer was utterly shocked. Humiliation washed over her like a flood. She asked, โEaston, do you look down on me too?โ
She spun around in anger to leave, Eastonโs words hitting her right where it hurt.
Seeing Jennifer leave, Easton picked up his phone to call Natalie.
Natalie had just finished helping Maris and was about to return; she had just gotten into the car when Eastonโs call came through.
โWhat do you want?โ Natalie said angrily.
Eastonโs eyes turned a bit somber. He asked, โWhere are you?โ
Natalie replied, โHeading home.โ
Easton said, โIโll be back for lunch, and Iโm craving some beef and potato pottage.โ He hung up immediately, leaving Natalie no chance to refuse.
Natalie felt speechless. She cursed inside, โWhat a jerk!โ Then, she lightly tapped the steering wheel and drove back home to cook.
Thinking about James, Natalie gave in. As long as James could become stronger, one day heโd be able to defeat Easton. This was going to be a long fight; with that thought, Natalie felt calm.
It was one oโclock in the afternoon. When Easton got home, Natalie had already prepared lunch.
Seeing Natalie busy in the kitchen, a warm feeling flickered in Eastonโs eyes. He went to wash his hands.
Seeing Easton come back, Natalie sat down and waited for Easton for lunch. At that time, Murray called her.
Natalie was sipping soup as she put the call on speaker. She called out, โMurray.โ
Murray replied, โNatalie, thereโs something I canโt wrap my head around. You have a very high IQ. Youโre rational, steady, and mature. What on earth did you see in Easton? Was it his thick-headed attitude or his stubborn nature?โ
Natalie sensed someone behind her and quickly turned to find Easton standing there with a sullen look.
